The camping / Touring site is situated about 10 minutes walk away from the main complex in a pretty part of the park, right next to the duck pond.

We arrived after quite a few weeks of heavy rain and many of the pitches were waterlogged and muddy. However we had a quick look around and found a pitch near the duck pond that was dry and reception were more than accommodating.

The pitches themselves are very flat and all have EHU and water. Prices are reasonable to expensive (we camped on Thursday 19th July for just £11 inclusive of all passes etc and this went up to £39 on the Friday due to school holidays).

The site has hard and soft standing and two sets of shower blocks (one concrete built and one portaloo type). The latter portaloo seemed more modern although a little smaller than the concrete block. Showever were cleaned regularly and were always hot.

Pot washing is only available at the concrete shower blocks which can result in quite a walk, which we found a minor annoyance.

The site has a mixed bag of tourers, caravans and tents and we for instance was camped between a tent and multiple caravans. The pitchs themselves though are very private with plants and hedging separating each plot.

Skipsea sands is a small site in relation to the might of many Haven sites and this is a good and bad thing. The entertainment team do their best to provide some fun in the evening although many of this is geared towards young children.

The pool, sauna and steam rooms were all a nice touch and included in the price and there's a family entertainment room alongside an adults only bar should you feel the need to have some quiet time.

The local shop is, as is always on these types of venues, expensive, but well stocked.

Skipsea Sands also has ten pin bowling (although pricey) and a sports hall (this was shut when we went). Nice touches like the table tennis being free however gave us a warm feeling.

There is no direct beach access to Skipsea Sands due to cliff corrosion so bare that in mind if visiting. Although the beaches at Bridlington are not that far away by car.

The campsite itself can become quite noisy at times but this seemed to die down as the night went on.

All in all its a nice site to visit although probably better of peak holiday times due to the price.

We arrived here after slight trepidation (local flooding) on saturday 10th July to find that the grass pitches were of reasonable condition despite the horrendous summer we were having.

Pitches are large with plenty space for the kids to roam about and near enough to the toilet block without having to hold it in (haha) and close to the park to keep an eye on the wee ones whilst playing. Plenty of wildlife with ducks etc roaming about and even coming into your tent to hunt for bread.

Toilet blocks were mostly clean and tidy. Any mess coming from inconsiderate campers/caravannners and not from the diligent cleaning of the Skipsea Staff!

On site the club is very welcoming and kids entertainment is fab, food is as you would expect - you get what you pay for and nowhere did it state that it was a 5* restauraunt! Filling and hearty and reasonable is what we would call it.

Staff all seemed to be very welcoming.

We had one issue with the pool. At 9. 45 on a Monday morning you would expect to see bins emptied, a clean floor and a clean pool/locker area. However, it would seem that the Leisure Manager was away on a course and that the staff seemed to relish in this, expecting to sit at the desk, not do very much and 'pose. ' We did, however make a complaint and when the young boy in charge seemed happier looking over my partners head rather than looking him in the eye, we took it further. Got to speak to a sales manager and fair to say he was horrified at what we seen in the pool (esp after park resorts being on Undercover Boss ch4). He bent over backwards to apologise and all credit to him. Our complaints were taken seriously and were acted upon. This is the only complaint that we had.

We had a few numpties on site on the saturday but glad to say they parted company early sunday morning. What site doesn't get their fair share of eejits?

Skipsea is a quaint little town and the costal erosion is quite a scary but interesting sight to behold. Loads to do in Brid (Jeromes and The Forum for hearty food), and further up in Filey and Scarb. The beaches are some of the best you'll see in the country.

All in all, we would definitely go back.

Excellent - staff very polite and friendly.

Facilities were very good, contrary to other reports.

Our site was on grass with electric, as requested, and was a good size. Well maintained.

The shower and toilet facilities were very good.

Clean and well maintained, again contrary to other reports. There was a mop supplied in the room to mop up after you, not unless you feel it is below you to leave a place how you would expect to find it.

Only point I would make, is the waste bin areas needed to be increased

Visited this campsite on the 7/05/2012 for 5 days price was very reasonable, one of the reasons why we went. Got there and the place was pretty empty got a nice pitch hard standing super pitch near duck pond and near toilets (73).

Ladies toilets were clean partner says mens weren't that great and even though weather wasn't great still enjoying it until Thursday when we got a several campers (if you can call them that) and it all went down hill from there the 'campers' were in and out in their transit vans, and 3 and 4 cars/vans to one pitch.

Then at 3, 30 Saturday morning fire broke out in the toilets opposite so was awake till five that morning and had to leave that day.

Date of Visit: April 2012 Unit:  Trailer Tent
Reviewer: Andrea2002 4 reviews from this member

We have just returned from our inaugral holiday using our trailer tent. We decided on this site after all of the ones we picked in the Lake District (not too far from us) were fully booked for Easter (and we were booking in November). This was cheap - £120 for 8 days and easy for us to get to being at the other end of the M62.

We booked a hard standing after reading some reviews, and this is one of the sites which allows trailer tents on hard standing. I assumed it would be gravel but it was a concrete standing which gave us a couple of issues with pitching but we were ok - if I was going back I wouldn't bother with the hardstanding - the electric pitches all looked in pretty good shape.

The pitches are large - 10x10 metres which was great. We were there a week before Easter, which was our school holidays but not all schools were off. Up until good Friday it was pretty quiet - about 1/3rd of the touring pitches being used. I only ever met 1 person using the bathroom at the same time! It was pretty much full over the Easter weekend, although the facilities never seemed to get overstretched - the main issue was the water became a lot cooler - when it was quiet the water was very hot (too hot for the childrent o shower). There are 2 toilet blocks on the touring field - each with 3 ladies and 3 gents showers, and I think 5 toilets in the ladies. There were sinks inside for dishwashing and laudry. Both blockes were very clean and regularly checked.

Next to the touing fild is a large activity playground, with apparatus and also sufficient space ( and goals) to play football. There is a second, smaller but well maintained playground further along the site.

The site has a pool, which again never got busy while we were there. The lockers were a joke - £1 non-refundable fee! As a result no-one locked them - we just left our clothes in them and didn't take any valuables to the pool. The pool itslef had a large retangular area varying from 1 meter to 1. 5 meter and a shallower section with a mushroom shower on the side. There were at least 2 life guards on (3 when it was busier) who kept reasonable order.

Within the pool complex is the bar and resaurant (no comments as didn't use) and a 4 lanes 10 pins bowling which we used on a wet afternoon - £10 for an hour. There is also a small arcade. The children's club also met in the bar area and seemed well organised.

The shop on site was fairly well stocked and not unreasonable in price - there is little other option locally but we took most of what we needed and topped up in Morrisons on a trip to York. There is a Co-op and a Tesco in hornsea 15 mins away.

There is also an arcade and a soft play area on the site. Again we didn't use but it looked ok - £2. 50 per child from ages 3 up.

There was a narrow strip of beach about 10-15 mins walk from the site, down some steel steps. This was fine for a bit of paddling and sandcastles. The closer beach access is closed as the cliffs are corroding, and after one very storm night the bit we had used collapsed and was just mud. I don't know how long this will take to recover. You also need to watch the tide carefully, as it would be easy to get cut off as the tide comes over the steps to and from the beach. Hornsea has a nicer beach, which was very sheltered due to the wooden struts down the lenght (not sure what they are called). Parking was also very reasonable - I think about £2. 5 for the day.

We didn't do much else in the immediate vicinity - its is pretty quiet. We did go to The Deep aquarium in Hull for the day, which was good. We booked on mobiles the night before which saved a big queue on the day, and took a picnic which you can eat inside, which saved the pennies. We also went to York for the day, mainly to escape the wind!. We would have done more but the weather was reasonable and the children happy to play on site/beach or be in the pool.

The site overall is very clean. It is mainly static caravans. We did have some very noisy neighbours on good friday, and no sign of a warden, but that was the only night. On the stomry night I think the warden did a patrol. We would probably go back, asit is a good site for children, and has a relaxed feel despite being large.

Went for Halloween with O/H and our 3 daughters.

We were in our van, a 6-berth twin axle Bailey so its quite long.

No problem finding site, no problem finding pitch but the pitch was probably the furthest pitch from the facilities that it could be. It had been very wet and the drainage from this pitch was very poor. Wherever we tried to put the porch awning there was water, although it was a hard standing pitch. There were several empty double hard standing pitches all weekend. Infact many of the empty grass pitches had better drainage than our hardstanding one.

The mens toilets were disgusting:

Toilet 1: Someone had been sick all over it

Toilet : Someone had emptied their bowels over and around it.

Toilet 3: Dirty with no toilet paper.

Shower floor was filthy.

On one occasion I went to the toilet, and the light timer timed out leaving everyone in total darkness.

The club was ok for the kids, although lacking I'm many things on food and beer menu due to being end of season, but the food was decent and reasonably priced.

Swimming pool was freezing. I would not go here again

We only stayed over for one night, which probably isn't enough to do the park justice, but we were very pleased with our stay.

We were later arriving than we had hoped, but were able to contact the park staff and there was no problem; this was good customer service. The welcome pack is a nice touch. The touring field is large and well laid out with hedges separating the pitches. The toilet blocks are a good size, clean and well-maintained.

This is a much larger park than we usually use but we were impressed with the facilities and services.

For our first ever camping trip Skipsea sands seemed pleasant and at £20. 00 per night which includes access to some of their facilities such as the swimming pool and bowling alleys, quite reasonable.

There is lots of wildlife such as rabbits and ducks which freely wonder around the campsite the children loved this.

We were close to the toilets which were okay, the floor was a bit of a mess as there was no mop and bucket left so some times you trampled through a puddle to wash your hands. There was never a queue for the toilets or washing up area, which was clean.

We were given a corner pitch and did notice the grass on which we pitched our tent was sparse yet we due to good weather it didn't seem to matter to much.

The facilities were good they had entertainment and kids clubs available, however the only facility we actually used was the swimming pool, Sauna and steam rooms. A complaint here was that you are only allowed an hour in the pool which upset the children as we were not made aware until our hour was up.

Over all for our first camping trip away Skipsea Sands was excellent. There were no massive issues a calm atmosphere and the staff were always friendly and helpful.

We camped at Skipsea for 8 nights. It is our first time camping at a commercial resort (Park Resorts), so wasn't too sure what to expect. It wasn't an awful holiday, but not the best, and I doubt I would camp there again.

Postives:

Some of the pitches are very large, and also the ones on the outer ring especially nearest the duck pond look like they could be pretty quiet.

The duck pond area was lovely, with loads of ducks that are very friendly (especially if you have bread!). There are also tons of rabbits all over the site which is nice to see.

The play park is right next to the touring field, and very good (although if you have a pitch near there it could be noisy, as I heard noisy when I used the toilet blocks).

There are two shower/toilet blocks, so no-one is very far away from them. One is most definitely better than the other, and they would benefit from having a mop left in there. Water was always hot, although pressure went up and down depending on how many others using!

Pool is good, went to the entertainment one night and it was ok if you like that sort of thing.

Lots to do in local area, went to Bridlington a few times and also Fraisthorpe Beach which was lovely, miles and miles of sand.

Negatives:

Pitches in general very close together, other than those on outer ring. We were unfortunate enough to be in middle, and felt quite crammed in. We were there at a busy time though, bank holiday weekend and last week of school hols.

No grass on pitch at all, it was pure mud, which unfortunately got very wet as it chucked it down as we put tent up. Meant we had some leakage of water due to conditions on pitch, didn't realise how much until packing away.

The shower blocks/toilets only seemed to get cleaned once a day, and there was no mop or anything left in there. Floors around showers got pretty disgusting.

We only went here as my inlaws were kind enough to treat us with their tesco vouchers. They also went, and stayed in their touring caravan, so were a few pitches away from us.

We did have a good holiday all in all, certain things couldn't be helped like the almighty wind and downpour that started when we were halfway through pitching and turned our mud patch into a muddy puddle which we then had to pitch on! I wouldn't camp at a big park like this again though.

I first went to have a look at this site on Good friday pm - found it on this sites search pages, the site was packed with new people arriving all the time, it looked busy and popular and had quite a buzz about the place. Wandering around, we found the tent section, it was full and every one looked quite content, chatting to neighbours etc, even then there were baby rabbits and ducks wondering about, noticed the site was spotless even when full.

I came home and booked for as soon as was possible, the first block of 5 days in a row was booked at £8 per night for the pitch (Sun through Fri)

We got a corner pitch (No 56) which was massive, at the time there was only 1 touring caravan on site, just behind our pitch, eventually, another tent pitched up across from us but that was the only other camper that week.

The site is well looked after, we saw ground staff mowing at least 3 times that week, the cleaning staff were very jolly and kept the facilities clean enough to eat your dinner off, 3 toilets, 3 shaving sinks and 3 showers per block, liquid soap dispensers were placed along the sinks and in each shower cubical, each cubical had shelves for shampoo etc,

Each toilet had a 'loo brush' and ample toilet paper. The showers were powerful enough to beat the muck off you lol, they were man friendly in heat as in not too hot but just right. The blocks were warm and light. There was a dedicated heated washing up area of 3 sinks and a disabled access toilet.

The wildlife was amazing, the site was full newborn ducks, rabbits, robins, song thrushes. You name it, it came for food at the slightest rustle of a bread packet, even taking food from your hand, very relaxing!

We did not use the club house etc but the shop was well equipped but at convenience store prices. Well it was convenient! lol

All in all, I will defo camp here again, a few miles to either Brid or Hornsea, right on the coast, not far from home, very friendly staff with security guard after 8pm and clean surroundings to boot!
