Ulwell Cottage is set in a beautiful location, ideal for walking. We walked from the camp site to Old Harry Rocks, a steep climb but worth it for the amazing views.
I felt we were unlucky with our pitch location-38. We were beside a walkway connecting the pitches behind us and the toilet block and chemical waste point. Although the pitch was large, we didn't feel that there was a pleasant area to sit outside our caravan.
There are some lovely pitches, but equally some very cramped pitches especially during school holidays, so choose carefully.
I think to be fair we are so spoilt as we keep our caravan at The Inside Park, which in 6 years of caravanning has the best lay out by far.
The shop is well stocked, with delicious croissants and fresh rolls etc.
The swimming pool is opened at very convenient times with two friendly lifeguards, however it was over chlorinated for us, kids had sore eyes and skin rashes, but it didn't stop them swimming twice a day!
The Toilet block was clean and warm, but I have to agree with previous reviews going back the last two years(which the owners have obviously chosen to ignore)
Showers are push button, one in particular ran for 5 seconds which was a real pain for my 9 year old daughter with waist long hair. Also no shower head adjustment or temperature control.
We ate one night in the Bar, food and drink expensive, but the real problem was a very unwelcoming atmosphere.
The Barman and waitress seemed clearly unhappy to be there. The young girl behind the bar was friendly and professional, maybe Barman could follow her example, we were on holiday after
All!
The Golden Bengal, collection only, but very good curry.
Corfe Castle and Steam Train worth a visit.
We probably would come back to Ulwell, but would choose a better pitch and try pubs in Swanage to eat out, which hopefully will be more friendly.

This site is within walking distance of Swanage town or if you prefer, the bus stop is right outside.
From the site you can cross a stile and walk up on to the hills to Corfe Castle (about 1. 5 hours)and then take the steam train back to Swanage.
The site is very pleasant and although the are a great number of static caravans at the site, they are well hidden away from the touring pitch area.
The facilities are excellent and modern.
The shop was not open until Easter but looked as if it would have a good stock. The swimming pool was open. It is a good size but we did not try it out. The on site pub/restaurant was open (but not every day this early in the season). The food was good and staff were friendly.
Swanage is a lovely area, there is plenty to see and do, good walking and sandy beaches.

Here for weekend break. Absolutely ideal little site for this time of year. Toilets are immaculate. Showers are spacious with room to stow your gear without them getting soaked! Hair dryers available. Washing up sinks are external so wrap up warm if you decide to wash up the dinner dishes here. There is an indoor pool which is free. We didn't use it but it was a good size with lifeguard on duty. Also bar and food available in the pub on site and on the Friday evening it looked quite busy. Can't comment on the food as we didn't use it but it's always nice to have the option when it comes to cooking.
Good dog walks on site and also up the hill behind the site. 20 minute flat walk with pavement all the way into swanage so easily accessible. The shop on site closes during the winter months but there is general store/newsagent en route into town - about 15 min walk from site which is handy.
Check in was good and staff very friendly. This site is mainly for mobile homes/static vans but is still a good site for tourers.
All round this was a great choice for a short weekend break. We were very lucky with the weather and had lovely walks along the beach. We only paid £11 per night at this site which is great value for money. Would recommend this site and will certainly visit again

It was only due to the lack of space on more suitable sites in the area that caused the visit to this commercial site with over chlorinated swimming pool, bar and local shop. The lack of touring signage at the site entrance followed by overhearing various complaints at reception worsened fears only to be realised!
The touring area is set at the far end of a ‘holiday village’ of packed static caravans. The touring area is in two locations, one with gravel hardstandings, the second on grass (not ideal for a 7. 66m motorhome). The site water points are okay for wheel containers, but are located in a position that blocks the site road when filling a 120 litre tank. The site layout has been designed for maximum units on the site with no thought to use age.
The central facilities block is modern, the gents toilet has a central communal island washing with one (cracked) shaving mirror, and with powerful push timed showers (20 seconds) that wet the entire floor of both shower and changing area.
The site is 1 ½ miles from Swanage with limited shops and one Co-op supermarket.
On a positive note the site provides direct access to numerous delightful footpath routes on and around the Purbeck Hills. Corfe Castle is an easy 3 ½ mile walk West on the Purbeck Way.
Would definitely return to the area, but choice a less commercial site more suited to touring.

Reasonable enough site with adequate facilities, the pool is an added bonus. A regular bus service to Swanage or towards Poole ferry stops near the camp entrance. A recommended site for proximity to Swanage.

We really love Swanage and find this the ideal place for us to stay. Added bonus this year was the perfect summer weather, up until now I always wondered why you could unzip the panels from your awning and why we had flyscreens! That said, the showers could still do with a bit more run time. I also think, with the weather that we had, that it would have been worth the Village Inn staying open all day? Saw lots of folk looking disappointed that it was closed as myself and brother in law left? As we know Swanage pretty well, I can only recommend it as a place to visit. Great local shops - butchers, bakers etc, Supermarkets in town, good pubs & lovely restaurants. We are coming back again in June 2014, what more can I say?

I have stayed at Ulwell Cottage a number of times over the year - going right back to staying in static caravans with my parents and sister about 30 years ago. It has such pleasant memories that I was worried that going back in my tent would be asking for trouble. How wrong could I be.
I was allocated a flat pitch with great views of the surrounding hills. Plenty of room for my tent and the car. Pitch was all grass and was well cut and clear of anything which could have damaged the tent.
Showers and toilets were a short walk up the hill and they were always clean and there was plenty of cubicles.
The on site shop is a bit like a tardis - it seems to sell absolutely everything and the prices aren't unreasonable either.
It isn't the cheapest site in the area but you really do get what you pay for - this site is well maintained with great facilities.
I had a wonderful time - it was my first week long trip in my tent and at the end of the week I was really sad to be leaving.

We stayed here in the May half term. We had stayed the previous two nights at Putlake camping as this site could not fit us in for the extra time. The two sites couldn't be more different from each other. They both really do have great selling points.
The toilets and shower block was amazing. I've been to many hotels with lesser facilities than this place. We never had any queues at the showers either. We get up early so maybe this is why but it was great.
The washing up spots were fine too.
Thankfully it had tumble dryers as it was wet a few days and so we made use of these :) it was all close enough to get to easily.
The play park was brilliant too. A huge field that the children would play football on, throw freebies or in the park where they just played with the others.
Location-wise we always drove to the main carpark in Swanage but I saw some catching the bus and I imagine some might even walk but for us we used the car every time. We arrived a little bit early and the staff were very patient with us and helped us check if we could head in.
The only thing that I wasn't sure of at first was the close proximity to the other tents. After coming from a wide open field it felt like we were a bit on top of each other but actually it was fine and just took a slight mind adjustment.
It's not cheap but then they have the facilities to justify it I think.
I almost forgot, they even have a swimming pool here. The pool is very welcome and opens for periods of the day. It would be nice if it was a bit shallower as it gets deep very quickly so we all find ourselves all together in the shallow end but given the choice of having it as a nice extra it was great.
I would certainly come back here.

Not impressed here as found it quite expensive and not very friendly. [Shame as other than that it was quite pleasant)
Access to our pitch was limited and difficult too. There are better sites in the area. Play areas were good but not of intrest to us. Toilets clean and welcoming. But food and friendliness on site let it down.

Stayed for two nights over averagely busy weekend. Arrived at around 7pm when reception was just closing, so had previously been told to go in to the bar to collect the check-in details. So popped in and the barman couldn't have been less helpful, so not a good start. Fortunately about 5 minutes later whilst waiting outside, one of the receptionist walked past and was helpful and gave me the arrival pack.
We camped on the grass pitches which were much better than the gravel pitches, as these seemed to overlook each other and had a slight 'carpark' appearance.
The shop on site is very good and has fresh bread and other goodies delivered in the morning.
The toilet block was clean but I didn't understand from previous reviews how annoying the showers are! The site owners obviously haven't addressed this, there is no thermostat and you can't adjust the shower head. You pretty much have to lean against the wall to get wet and it's either scolding hot or cold.
All in all, the location of the site is excellent for walking and it's small things that the site could, if they wanted to, sort out that would remove the 'niggles'.
