This is a beautiful camp site one of the best we have ever been to. It facilities are great spotless, warm and have all you need. The staff are lovely and helpful it has a fishing lake so you can go fishing and The Boat Inn is around the corner and the food & drink is brilliant but I would book. All in all fabulous There are a lot of lambs nearby so bleating in the night is a little bit noisy but hey that's nature an a couple grasses of wine helps with the sleeping.

Arrived at the site to a warm, friendly welcome and were shown to the pitch which was right by the railway track, which was fab! The pitches are all hard-standing on slabs and they even offer to move the slabs so you can peg the awning if necessary. The staff couldn't be more helpful. About half an hour after we arrived, an ice-cream van turned up on the site which was very welcome on a warm, sunny day.
The site is very well kept - clean and immaculately mowed grass. The showers/toilets are a little dated, but very clean and well maintained.
We were chuffed to bits when the steam trains went passed. The station is next to the campsite and worth a little walk as the staff there are friendly and knowledgeable and there's a little tearoom that serves gorgeous homemade cakes. The Boat pub is a small walk over the bridge and although we didn't eat there, it was in an idyllic location and looked lovely from outside.
We took a 20 minute trip to Trentham Gardens, which is well worth a visit too.
We will definitely be returning to this site and would highly recommend it to anyone who fancies a quiet, well maintained site with lots of lovely scenery and a friendly atmosphere.

Visited glencote with out three children aged 14, 10 and 6. We chose this site due to the canal near by and also its 1n the top 100 of uk sites. The site wardens are welcoming and pitches maintained although the facilities were not what we were expecting from an award winning park. The play area is a goal post in mud. And the showers need a re-vamp. The rules of the park don't get followed, children play football round caravans, visitors stay till they want to and dogs run free chasing balls. On booking we were not warned that there was no tv signal so had none. We spoke to others who had no tv either. The site is not on the cheap side and for its 5 stars we were very disappointed. The only good thing was the location. We spoke to the warden who said the play area is just some where to go play ? and the tv was tough. They really need to communicate when booking what you are getting !

We were not impressed with this site
There were issues with the booking which were badly communicated.
Could not see why it had five stars have seen better.
Also poor TV signal so if weather is poor you are out in the sticks without much entertainment
It was near to the Stafford shire potteries which we visited and the steam train which ran past the site was nostalgic but other than that the site was not much to shout about.
No on site entertainment and limited other facilities
Have visited much better for lower nightly rates

We visited Glencote for a quick weekend break and our first outing of the year. We don't know the southern part of the Peak District as well as we'd like so Glencote was a perfect base to explore. The Roaches are a 10 minute drive away and walks from the site are plentiful and varied in length and climb. Paul booked us in and was terrific about us arriving late on a Friday evening. He found us a great pitch and we couldn't quite believe our luck the next day when we woke up in a lovely spot with a heritage steam railway that runs literally through the site with one of the stations a 3 minute stroll along the lane at Cheddleton.
The Boat Inn is just past the station and is quite smart and very friendly with good beer. We didn't eat there as we took our little dog but it was very busy and popular on the restaurant side on a Saturday night with lots of locals as well as campers, no problem taking our mutt into the pub side which is always a good sign.
It is the oddest entrance to a campsite we've ever seen with the possible exception of the site in Steppes just outside Glasgow. Having driven through the back streets of Leek we drove through an industrial estate to the site. Don't let this put you off! The railway, canal, and lovely rolling Staffordshire countryside are terrific.
The people who own and run the site gave us the warmest of welcomes and they will gladly advise on local walking and has written and described many walks from the site and beyond. Our walk took us by The Black Lion pub which is about 2-1/2 miles along the canal from the site. Great real ale house with BIG pub food. As we were on a long hill walk we took advantage. Bring an appetite. The pub has only been accessible by road for a few years and it's lovely to sit and watch the narrowboats and the steam trains running by just a few feet from the door.
The facilities on site were clean and tidy as was the whole site and i'll say again that we were bowled over by the welcome. Plenty of kids running round, well behaved and as our kids are now in their 20's we take a certain pleasure in watching parents trying to gets their excited children to bed. Having read mostly glowing reviews of Glencote I have little sympathy for the reviewers who don't like kids on site. There are plenty of adults-only sites and we happen to think youngsters kicking a ball about and enjoying the outdoors with their families is better than sitting indoors with a computer game. Most people who camp as kids do so as adults with their kids!
We'll be back to Glencote very soon!

Arrived Cheddleston 'on spec' to camp near the railway. Site owner was accommodating, he allowed me to pitch near reception and park my monster bike on the tarmac reception road. This was great, it saved a long walk with all my gear.
This site is in a lovely spot, and convenient for lovely canal walks, railway walks and strolls to the shops. Facilities are excellent, and centrally placed on the site.
For a single person camping it could be considered a bit pricey, paying the full fee for a caravan and two occupants, but I didn't mind, I thought it was good value. The owner reduced the fee a bit, I must have looked poor!
The nearby flint mill is worth a visit, as is the churnet valley railway. Could spend a lot of time here and I will be going back on the old 'Pan' soon to make another visit to this charming spot.

A very clean and tidy site, top of the range price wise and just worth the expense, just.
Alan and Paul were very welcoming and a great benefit to have with superb local knowledge and Alan has written a fine handbook of local walks so ask to borrow one.
Local Pub is 700 yards away and another is on a great canal walk about 2 miles away, the nearest shop an easy find but quite a walk.
Showers old but clean and on timers which are too short so a bit of a pain, pitches we found were small so neighbours were to close for our liking. Our 'Adult only' area had kids in so hardly ideal.
A very nice site with little to look at with seemingly very nice walks around and having Steam and Diesel trains passing by was great, we did enjoy our stay there and will return.

Our first visit to Glencote. Initially we were somewhat concerned as we thought we had taken a wrong turn. This was because the approach to the site is quite possibly the 'ugliest' I have ever seen as you pass large, hideous industrial units to get to the site entrance.
Don't let this put you off. You are greeted at the gate by one of the extremely friendly hosts who sees you to your pitch and is very helpful and keen to meet your needs. All with expert knowledge of the surrounding area.
The pitches are all hard standing and with their own fresh water supply. Spacious enough so as not to intrude on neighbours.
Televison and mobile reception a little limited. We managed to get TV after several attempts and movements to the aerial. The 3 mobile network has one 'hotspot' near the toiler block. T Mobile was better with coverage all over the site.
The facility block whilst very dated, is always VERY clean. Over the Bank Holiday weekend the site appeared full but there was no queuing for showers.
Unfortunately the Boat Inn, five minute walk from the site and in a lovely location on the canal bank, was closed for renovation during our stay. Lovely walks either way along the canal tow path and you must check out the pigs on the left just before you get to the railway station.
The nearest shop is a twenty minute walk away up a prolonged hill that takes some getting used to.
All together a very enjoyable stay and we will most definitely return.
If you haven't been to Glencote give it a try.

Our 2nd visit to this campsite an we were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately it was a completely different experience.
Last time it was a very pleasant and peaceful break, I might have been expecting too much for the same over a Bank Holiday weekend but it was not only full but they added an extra pitch in next to us for a campervan that had the largest awning tent I have ever seen attached to such a small vehicle and housed a family of 5 about 3 feet from my caravan.
The main part of the park is mainly occupied by seasonals and statics and still seemed nice. The pitches are hardstanding and adequate in size but not as spaced out as Club pitches.
The two touring areas at the end of the site were like being pitched on a school playground. No ball games allowed near caravans but football games were always going on, both Adults and Children and no sign of the rule being enforced, nor was the no noise after 11 am.
Such a pity. Still a good site to visit if you go mid-week or off peak but cannot recommend when busy.

First time to this site, stayed for two nights.
Well kept, with all the pitches hard standing with own water supply, although a touch on the expensive side (£22 per night with EHU)
Shower blocks were very clean and modern.
TV reception was very poor due to the location in a valley and although we had a satellite we struggled to get any signal because we were at the very far end of the site and next to trees. Next time we would ask for a pitch at the other end where a signal was not a problem. Radio and mobile (O2) OK.
The Boat Inn is just 2-3 minutes walk away and does lovely pub food.
Next to the site is the Churnet Valley Railway and is well worth a trip. Do ring ahead or check the website to check on the timetable as the trains don't run everyday.
Nearby is Rudyard Lake which is beautiful and has a lovely cycle route along side together with a miniature steam train (and a nice cafe!)
Although we only live 25 minutes drive away, I would not hesitate to stay here again
