First time here on this lovely campsite, we stayed for a week,
Owner very helpful and friendly, plus other staff also helpful,
What a lovely area, and scenery,
The campsite is really nice with good showers and toilets, very clean, the whole campsite has a nice feel to it,
Not far from a pub called the boat in only five minute walk, also the red lion in the village does excellent food,
Although we had rain most off the time that we stayed there it didn't bother us, we still went to titsworth reservoir, worth going to as a lovely walk around the lake,
The canal walk was nice and we went on the steam train that is five mins walk away
There is fish and chip shop plus one stop plus chemist in the village,
There is lots to do around the area and is great for walkers.
As I found out also visit the roaches never seen anything like it,
We did get a couple days sunshine which was nice
We will be back and can I say its a credit to the owners and staff
A brilliant site top marks

Hidden away past an industrial estate, we weren't quite sure what the campsite would be like. We kept thinking - 'had we made the wrong choice?'
The owners were very helpful during our stay - nothing was too much bother for them, and the site on first impressions seemed to be in a pretty much immaculate condition, probably because 'John Craven' (yes, he of Country File) came to do interviews on the site.
However, not everything was as it seemed.
The toilet block was in very clean condition generally, however the showers left a lot to be desired. After pressing the push button, out would come scalding hot water with no obvious way to adjust it (too hot for my 3 year old toddler), only for all the water to switch off before I could count to ten. This meant I had to shower with one hand constantly on the push button.
There were 3 showers in the men's, so I tried the other 2. One was the same, except the wood-framed window used as a vent had almost completely rotten and the glass was about ready to fall out. The other was worse, as it could only produce a slow trickle of cold water (which my wife tells me is what all the women's showers were like).
The 'playground' is exactly as the word says - a patch of ground for kids to play on. There were 2 goals, with torn netting, and the ground was waterlogged (probably due to the rain during our stay though). There are absolutely no swings, slides, climbing frames or anything else.
One thing that my son did enjoy was the Railway. The line is on an embankment which is raised about 10 feet above the level of the campsite, so all of the noise can be heard, which my son loved. We were lucky enough to travel on a weekend where a special service was running, so 1 trip lasted a total of 3 hours.
The tent pitch (with water and electric) we had was near the bottom of the site. Unfortunately, this part of the site is the part which is narrowest between the railway and the road. Although the road is a country lane with a 30mph limit, it seemed to regularly have 'boy racers' speeding down it at 10pm, and sometimes even after 11pm at night. Not good with the three of us trying to sleep.
Within about 5 mins drive, there is the small town of Leek, which has a Morrisions supermarket - very handy for shopping, but mainly to sit down, have a drink or bite to eat and use my phone, as there is NO SIGNAL for Vodafone on the site. Due to this, I was tempted to pay for Wi-Fi, to be able to surf the net on the 3 wet days we had. However, I checked the Wifi signal from the tent - nothing. Went to the toilet block halfway up the site - still no Wifi signal.
It's a shame we had the experience that we did - we were camping on our own for the first time, and if it wasn't for the exciting things we did away from the campsite (Blue John Cavern, Chatsworth House & Red Arrows Display, Churnet Valley Railway, Peak District, Cinema), we would probably have really hated our holiday. As it was though, we still had an ok time - the area is nice, although a little far away from the best attractions.
Overall, it's a shame to have to say it (and I was afraid to admit it to them, as the owners were so friendly), but I won't be coming back.

We have just returned from a fab camping break at Glencote. We stayed for two nights over the weekend and experienced the most friendliest welcome.
It's mainly for caravans and camper vans but has good facilities for tents too. The site is situated next to Churnet Steam Railway, where the old steamer passes right by the pitches.
Next to Cheddleton station is the river, canal and a lovely pub, The Boat. This is all literally within five minutes walking distance.
Our only negatives were the noise from the road and the showers although hot were a bit weak.
But don't let this put you off, this is a beautifully maintained site with small fishing pond, and sports area. The Ice Cream man even makes an appearance!
We would definitely return here, maybe asking for a pitch just a little further from the lane.

Cant fault this place at all. Excellent facilities, superb location, very helpful owners.
This is one of those places you wish you had known about before!Close to everything you need.
We loved this place as did the kids. Loads of space, fishing on site was fantastic. There is so much space here that you will never feel crowded at all.
What else do you need already booked for next year thanks to tom jnr for showing us to our pitch. Owners were great fun
Looking forward to next summer.
Recommend to anyone

Just visited over the weekend - very friendly welcome, willing to help out wherever they can.
All pitches are hard standing paving slabs (even tents). This is fine as long as your caravan isnt on the short side (19ft)as the pegs for the awning have nothing to hammer into, although we did discover later that they would have moved the paving slabs for us to get the pegs in had we asked.
Site is very neat & tidy with many of the units looking fairly permanent, only a small handful of tents. Water point provided on each point if you have the right hose hook up.
We did have a problem with the siting of the EHU point which was some way further than our cable (which admittedly may have been a bit short) although this was solved by the site who allowed us to use one of their extension cables, linked with mine it eventually reached.
The steam train running behind the site isn't a problem at all - even on a Saturday is only came past a handful of times. If you need to walk your dog its a walk out the bottom end of the site & down a narrow rd & 2 bridges before you can get to the canal towpath - the site is neatly trimmed it would seem a shame to allow the dog to go on it!
Childrens play area was a little disappointing as there was always the risk that the football or frisbee would either fall in the lake right next to next the field or go over the fence at the other end. Added to this was that the main play area was waterlogged in parts. There were a few children on site but most didn't play there as it was a little remote.
Showers & toilets were very nice, mens showers both hotter & faster than womens apparently, my wife didn't consider them power showers but the mens were! Hot water in good supply (apart from ice cold on one occasion)and no waiting around. Nice sheltered area for dish washing enclosed in the centre of the toilet block, plus a laundry room.
Some way from a supermarket but there was a small general store just up the road from the site (2-3 mins by car) which is open till 10pm but is a little pricey but good for the odd item.
We didn't opt to pay for wi-fi but not sure how strong the signal was as my ipod didn't pick up any wireless signal at all so I don't think it would have worked at all.

Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. Only second time camping and first time with an electric hook up to our 10 man tent. Lovely campsite, well kept, lovely location and perfect hosts.
Cant rate this site highly enough. Already planning a return trip in september. No play area, but lots of play space, our 7 year old learned to ride her bike without stabilisers due to the clear clean paths and level grassland.
Toilets= clean, and enough of them.
Showers= clean, warm, hot water and enough of them and FREE
Pub close by= the boat, good food reasonable prices
Walks= ample to choose from and lovely to walk by the canal.

This was our first time away in our caravan and upon arrival we found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. We were escorted to our pitch and were given advice about siting the caravan
We went on the steam railway and feel that having the trains run within view of the site adds to it and does not disturb the peace and quiet.
The area itself is nice. We visited Buxton for the day and Leek is quite a nice town. I have worked in this area before and always find the people to be very friendly.
Shower blocks clean and modern. Pitches good flat hard standing and site very well kept.
Problems- no play equipment for young kids just a football pitch which gets very muddy. You have to pay extra for wifi and to use the fishing pond on top of a tariff which is not cheap considering the lack of facilities for young families.

What a wonderful park, we had a brilliant stay it is so perfect for site seeing all around the peak district, the old railway is fantastic, when you go not if you go, its a must to take a ride on it, the park is so clean and surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees, well laid out park, the toilet and shower facilities excellent.
Allen Paul and Ann were so welcoming and very polite.
The boat pub just around the corner from the park which is along side the canal is also excellent for just a drink or food.
This park is a very busy park always full when we were there, we were also told of there sister park Royal Vale at Knutsford which is an Adult only park
Which we are booked in for August bank holiday which we are yet to try, if its anything like this park Glencote we will enjoy it just as much,

Stayed 4 nights over bank holiday weekend. Shown to our pitch by a very pleasant approachable man. Card and barrier access to site. All pitches were slabbed which we thought was great.
Nicely maintained site no muddy paths. Site is bordered by a country lane and the steam railway track. Road is not excessively busy. We were sited the otherside of the hedge from it and we did not find it a problem.
You would have to be really grumpy to find the railway an issue. The station is a short walk away down the lane but there is no path. Seemed to be mainly seasonal pitchers and locals on site and we live only 30 mins away. It is a very pleasant bolthole.
Although full, site did not seem busy and there was no problem accessing toilets and showers. Facilities all fine and clean can only nit pick really that the showers are a bit dribbly - and I always want bigger cubicles, more hooks and music on, I hate library quiet toilets. The play area is sited next to the fishing pool.
There are goal posts with basket ball hoops above, mown grass and some hardstanding so take a ball and scooters or bikes as no swings or play equipment.

Have just returned from a 3 night stay over the Bank Holiday period with my Hubby, 2 Girls 8 & 11 and my Parents who were on the pitch next to ours. We were met by very friendly staff who showed us to our pitch and were happy to help in any way.
The site is behind an Industrial Estate which you do not notice once on site. There is a Farm opposite which was rather smelly but we only noticed it on the first day. The railway track runs along side the site but doesn't run every day and the noise is minimal.
As already said there is a Pub (The Boat) within a 5 min walk which serves food until 2:30 and then again at 6pm although I wouldn't recommend it. There is another Pub (The Red Lion) which is a further 20 min walk down the canal.
The Toilet/Shower block was always clean and the water lovely and hot although having to press the shower every minute to turn it back on was a bit of a chore and the lights automatically switched off after so long which wasn't a problem for me as it was morning but I imagine could be a bit of a nightmare if you were having one in the evening when it was dark outside.
Nice little pond if fishing is your thing with the children's play area at the side which is divided by a fence & gate. No playground just grass pitch for ball games but this wasn't a problem for my 2.
I did pay for wifi but to be honest it wasn't worth bothering with as the signal was so weak. My mobile phone could not get any service either on Orange, O2 is apparently the best.
There is a rack in the Laundry providing lots of leaflets on local attractions and we visited Trentham Monkey forest which was lovely and about 25 mins drive. There is also a Chinese Menu in the leaflet rack called Chinese Gourmet who will deliver to the gates of the site if you ring them.
You need to arrive/vacate by 3pm the guy taking our pitch clearly didn't read that as he turned up at 11am. They did let him in and he parked his van in the middle of nowhere below us and came and told us there was no rush! The staff did speak to us re this to reassure us we were ok till 3pm but we were leaving earlier anyway, I guess if you were planning on staying till 3 it could've been slightly off putting.
All in all a lovely little site with welcoming & friendly staff. Would def visit again should we chose to go to that neck of the woods.
