Have just returned from a weekend at this site where we've had sun, gales, rain and snow. We've visited several times but not been for about 18 mths and were aware that there were new owners. This site is in a lovely setting with lots of walks and not far from Leek if you need civilisation. The owners are just as friendly (have kept on some old staff) and they have lots of plans to further improve the site. However, I do have one gripe and that is price - can't remember thinking it expensive before but now they just charge one price all year. We paid £22.50 per night - don't mind in high season but a bit cheeky before Easter.

Excellant site, we camped for two nights with two toddlers and had a lovely time. Very pretty site, if you stay on a Sat/Sun or a Wednesday the Cheddleton Steam Train runs which my two year old loved. Toilets/showers spotless with plenty of very hot water. Review of July 2005 which states noise patrol and enjoyment patrol is incorrect, owners very pleasant and helpful(review related to prev owners). Local pub on canal we found to be reasonable and food tasty, but we did eat on a Monday Lunch, so may be busier at weekends. I would recommend site highly.

We have been to this site several times and really think it is one of the best sites around it only small but its true good thing come in small packages. Loos are spotless there's a steam railway and a country pub next to the canal the boat Inn has large canopy so you can sit outside rain or shine. Food there is excellent and most main meals are about 5-6gbp. Dog friendly too. We went in July to find new owners and I have to say they are OVER KEEN on cleaning the loos. Alicia, Stu & paddy

Just returned from this beautiful and well managed site. Ducks popping in for breakfast and the steam rain parading by with folk waving on their travels. Clean toilets and unlimited hot showers make this park almost perfect (no soap in the dispensers make it only 99%!).W ell done Tim!

Lovely site clean and well laid out. Nice little pond for fishing, and short distance to pub.
This site will suit the quiet older couple who have no children. Read the rules on their web site as you cannot speak after 10.30pm as the owners patrol the park on noise patrol, and all ball games should be played in the play- area and not near your caravan, as the owners are on enjoyment patrol throughout the day. The local pub has guest beers which are excellent but on busy days the food / service can be poor.

June 2005 We've just returned from a weekend at this site which is about 3 miles from Leek.
This is our second stay at Glencote and both times have found it full but never crowded. This site has a laid back atmosphere. The loo block is always spotless(not sure how they manage it as we've never seen anyone clean it!).
The site feels as though it's in the middle of the countryside, with the steam railway just over the fence, canal alongside and river at the bottom of the road. The Boat Inn is a must but make sure to book if you intend to eat there as it's very popular with locals.
Planting around the site is lovely, someone is obviously a keen gardener here. There's a kids play area and fishing pond set below the level of the pitches.
Leek is great for wandering around the antique shops and appears to be undergoing some sort of upturn, lots of posh development going on. The staffordshire moorlands are a short drive away and offer a bleak contrast to the green of the area surrounding the site.

March 2005
Fantastic well laid out site, with each pitch on hardstanding ground. Clean toilets/showers. Laundry facilities available. The owners are wonderful and friendly. We got married from there in March of this year. My husband loves the site for the fishing available, I just like to 'chill out'.
We have previously taken an 82 year old relative there as well as friends and they have all returned at various times. Well worth a visit.

August 2004 This is one of the best campsites that I've been to, the toilets are spotless, the showers nice and hot, there could do with being a bigger shower block but they are really clean. The grounds are kept lovely. It is a nice quiet site, there is a pub a short walk away and its great when they have the steam trains running, the caravan shakes. The staff are helpful and I would definately recommend this site to anyone.

July 2004 This site was very good, we were met at the gated entrance and shown to our pitch, all appeared to be hardstanding for both the van and the awning. The pitches were a good size and although the park was fully booked it didn't feel crowded. Now the real bonus was the Steam railway which ran along the back of the site, my 2 yr old thought it was excellent to have real trains going past the site. The station and Pub are both very near, just a 5 min walk away. Dont worry about the noise from the trains, they are only between 10am and 5pm, the toilets, showers were also very well maintaned. I would recommend the site highly.

April 04 Thought this site was ideal, I read the reviews that had previously been posted, thought it sounded ok so went for a 1 night stop over.
Very nice camp, clean, owners very friendly, toilet/showers clean and lots of hot water.
The pub called the Boat Inn was very nice, and only a few minutes walk from the camp, they are child friendly and the beer was reasonably priced and the meals are superb with very generous portions but please be aware that they stop serving meals after 9:00pm and it does get quite busy early on.
Took my daughter down to see the old steam engines on the sunday morning as they were preparing them for a gala event
Was very impressed and will certainly be going again later for a longer stay.
