What an amazing part of the world! If your looking for a peacful tranquil site then this is the one! The owners were very friendly and helpful, the site, toilets and showers were all immaculatley kept!Lots of information about local attractions available on site. Gorgeous woodland to explore, kids had a ball. This site is perfectly located for visiting several attractions with Beddgelert and Portmeirion 10 and 15 minutes away! Snowdonia and Beaumaris are a definite must! Tesco and Aldi only few miles away in Porthmadog. Would highly recommend.

Just got back from 5 nights at Barcdy, and we almost made it without rain too.
We were surprised how quiet the site was, given that we were there the first week of school holidays - it got busier at the weekend, but at one point, there were only 6 tents in the camping field. The children would have preferred some company, perhaps, but no complaints.
Well laid out, well maintained, showers and toilets faultless (though the blocks would be cold in other seasons, and perhaps most of the 2012 summer). And the location is very convenient for that corner of North Wales.
A word about the lack of shop; with warning from reviews here, we weren't troubled by it, but it is a little odd that the owners don't have a fridge and freezer and some non-perishables on hand.
|
Management response: We still have all of our freezers and fridges from the days of our shop (shop now closed). People bring in tons of ice packs to freeze, and have done so for many years. This service is in our reception area but we had possibly not made it clear enough to the people who have written this review. |

My husband and I had an excellent night's stay at Barcdy - it's easy to find from the signposting on the road. Using the postcode on our SatNav didn't quite take us far enough, so we did have to keep going a little further up the road to find them, but it wasn't a problem.
We'd wanted to visit Portmeirion and the Village after watching the whole of The Prisoner series, and found this a perfect base from which to do so.
Lovely scenery, a picturesque and quiet site although near quite a fast, sometimes noisy road, but this didn't really affect our stay at all - it makes links better and quicker to where we wanted to go.
Facilities were extremely good - excellent shower and toilet block, very welcoming and instructional as to using bricks for BBQs to protect the grass which was in immaculate condition. There is a fridge and freezer you can use to store your cold bits and locked at night, but if you want an early breakfast beware you might have to wait until 'opening time'!
Overall a lovely stay, very clean, excellent value for money, friendly fellow campers. Can't wait to go back!

This was our first time at this site and can only agree with the other good reviews,
Very well run, this has to be one of the cleanest sites I’ve ever been on, I didn’t see a single piece of litter, the grass was neat, wash-block spotless, the owner seemed to be constantly going around keeping every thing neat and tidy.
Other reviews have noted noise from the road, we were on a serviced pitched at the top of the site so could barely hear it; it’s a fairly minor local road.
The lack of a shop didn’t bother us as we tend to take our supplies with us and top up with items when out and about.
The views are lovely; we were blessed with good weather, so each evening watched a huge sun sink behind the mountains. Glorious.
There’s lots to do in this area, obviously there’s the mountains but the beaches in north Wales can be equally stunning, though we couldn’t recommend Black Rock Sands, this is a peculiar set-up were you park right on the beach, consequently it’s mayhem.
A lovely walk is the Mawddach Trail, around ten miles but flat with terrific views.
There’s also lots of history to explore, they do like a castle in Wales!
I would highly recommend Barcdy, a super site in one of my favourite parts of Britain.

Perfect in every way. Except for the midges but that can't be helped.
A clean, quiet and very tidy site with first class toilet and shower block facilities. Ice packs can be frozen with a small donation to the local air ambulance.
The owners are very helpful.
Great location, just south of Porthmadog about fifteen minutes away and north of Barmouth about twenty five minutes drive away. (depending of course upon time of day etc) Ideal for exploring Snowdonia.

Just returned from a very pleasant stay at this site which has its good and bad points:-
Good
1. Well laid out site with terraced, level hard standings and fully serviced pitches which include water, grey waste, 10A electric (with accessible circuit breakers), Digital TV and satellite TV connections.
2. Great views across the Glaslyn estuary and of the mountains of Snowdonia.
3. Plentiful supply of hot water in showers, wash basins and indoor washing areas.
4. Toilet blocks were kept very clean and well stocked with loo rolls and soap.
Not so good
1. The site is quite remote and it's 5 miles (plus 50p toll) to nearest large supermarket (Tesco Porthmadog). There is no on-site shop so make sure you have enough of the basics.
2. The road and nearby railway can be noisy first thing in the morning.
3. The toilet block was extremely cold when we stayed - no heating at all.
The site is well located for exploring the local area including Barmouth and the coast to Abersoch, Portmeirion and the Ffestiniog railway. The Ship Inn in Porthmadog is well worth a visit for excellent food.

When we arrived we had a warm welcome and was able to choose our pitch,
We chose an electric hook up pitch and even though the majority of the other tents on site were also in the electric pitches section we had plenty of space.
A very nice touch was the use of one of the many picnic benches.
The toilet/shower block were very clean at any time of the day.
The only negative is the lack of a nearby shop. The nearest supermarket is at Porthmadog.
We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this lovely quiet and clean site.

This was our first camping trip & what a great site! The owners were very helpful and couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was great!
Very clean showers/toilets these were cleaned all the time, loads of hot water and a family room too!
The site could do with a shop to sell basics as the nearest one was a drive away! We went in the field near the road which was a little noisy at night but a clean field with loads of room for kids to play!
A great site which we will be returning to in the near future! Rather expensive but you pay for what you get well worth the money!

Superb site. Really well organised.
When you call they don't just book you in but make sure that the site is going to be right for you.
This is a quiet, well laid out site with easy access to Portmadog and Portmerion. There aren't any shops close by so it's an idea to take whatever you need with you. That is the only real negative if that's what you would call it. After all this is camping.
We rang and asked for two pitches with EHU. The owners said that they couldn't guarantee this but would do their best. The day before we were due to set off we got an email saying that the 2 adjacent pitches were fine and asked if we were still going as there had been an extreme weather warning.
We went to find the best shower block we have ever used in over 4 years of camping. It was always clean and tidy and the way the doors open directly outside is a really good idea as you can see when the showers are free. Not that anyone seemed to have to wait, even though the site was full.
There was lots of hot water and as well as separate toilets for ladies and gents there was a separate laundry and potwash room.
The pitches are well marked out and reasonable sizes. (We were asked for our dimensions when we booked)
While there isn't a play area as such there is a tree with a rope swing on top of a small hill. All of the kids headed straight for it and played for absolute hours in full view of all of their parents.
We will definitely be going back.

A lovely peaceful site ( apart from snoring neighbours)
Friendly staff. Iceblock freezing available at 10p per block. Very clean showers / toilets and facilities. Hair dryer 20p but you can take your own to plug in. Laundry / drier / iron etc.
No shop which it could do with for basics. Nearest one a few miles away. Lovely views from our plot up on the second level near shower block. Wouldn't fancy being down at the bottom near road/entrance.
Toll into Porthmadoc 40p return. Must go to Portmeirion and Pothdillian.
Lots in surrounding area for nature lovers. Buzzards hovering over site!
Cost is reasonable for tents.
