A really nice site. The camping field had flat ground, and it was well drained even after a few days of rain. As it was quiet we were told to pitch the tent wherever we wanted. The field was close to the road, but there was very little traffic at night so we weren't disturbed - there was more noise from nearby sheep.
The facilities were excellent - spotlessly clean toilets, free showers with lots of hot water, and a nice warm washing up room. There's a washing machine and tumble dryer, although we didn't need to use them during our stay. There's also masses of leaflets about local attractions, in case you need some ideas about what to do.
The site is within driving distance of lots of attractions, with Harlech Castle and Portmerion both close by. There are also some beautiful beaches, and of course the mountains.
The only possible improvements would be a freezer for ice packs, and a small shop on site. Other than that, I can't fault it.
We'll hope to be back again soon at this lovely site.

Management response: We still have all of our freezers and fridges from the days of our shop (shop now closed). People bring in tons of ice packs to freeze, and have done so for many years. This service is in our reception area but we had possibly not made it clear enough to the people who have written this review. |

Pros
Very peaceful - no noise at night apart from the wildlife
Beautiful Scenery - we camped on a hill and had lovely views of Snowdonia.
Very clean loos and washing up facilities - never queued up for a shower, and the water was hot. The cleaner was amazing and cleaned at least 4 times during the day. The washing up sinks were inside so a luxury when raining, and there was a washer and dryer plus more facilities at the main camping field. You just buy tokens for the washer at reception. It was a bit of a shame that you were not allowed to prepare food in the kitchen, even sandwiches but it was explained that some people were not cleaning up after themselves so they had to put a stop to it.
Pleasant owners
Lovely beaches nearby - there was quite a few beaches to choose from. Barmouth is a short drive away and is very picturesque. Blackrock sands is also a short drive and you can drive your car on the sand so you can go equipped with a bbq etc.
A nice walk from the camp site to lake.
There are some nice villages also, some with nice pubs. We went to The Victoria and had a nice meal but it was very busy so be prepared to wait at least an hour for your meal.
Cons
Road noise - we were very surprised on arrival how close the site was to the road. You can however pitch further up away from the road but there is only a few pitches which receive the sun. The field next to the road is lovely and flat and full sun all day and lots of children playing – but noisy!
£25 per night is rather a lot to pay to sleep in a field but I think the fact the site was so quiet and clean made up for paining a few pound more.
Lovely site and would return; but would be disappointed to have to camp on the field next to the road if there was no room on other tent pitches.

This is a very good site, with a few proviso's.
Pros.
Exceptionally clean all the time.
Good spacious showers, enough not to have to queue (well we didn't).
Helpful owners - will even use his pickup to push you into your pitch.
All caravan pitches are full service pitches, drainage (you will need 3 metres of waste pipe to reach), tv, water, electric.
TV service is digital, so you will need a digital tv. The owners will loan you a coax cable to hook-up.
Due to the site layout, never feels 'full', although it was when we were there.
Very quiet.
Cons.
The 'Valley' pitches are literally that. You are in a valley with a bank of trees one side and a bank of rocks the other. Consequently the hours of sun are more limited. Having said that, plenty of room, and not unpleasant.
Electric is 10amp only and you really have to be careful what you plug in. We did, but others didn't, which resulted in no electric (for everyone) twice (only for a matter of minutes though).
In dire need of a shop, as the nearest village's shop has closed down.
No Children's play area.
No Pub within walking distance. There is the 'Ship Aground' in the next village, but looked like a local's pub, and we didn't use.
We paid between £31 & £38 a night, very expensive in my opinion.
Shops.
There is a Spar in a nearby village. Go across the toll road as though you were going to Porthmadog. Turn left at 1st proper signposted turning after you have crossed the toll road, then the Spar is in front of you at T-junction. Tesco's in Portmadog is the closest 'big' shop, but beware, the journey into Porthmadog can be awful. The traffic can be diabolical. Go early or late, do not go in peak time, you will queue for literally hours. When you get to Porthmadog, Tesco's is found by going straight through the town centre, you can't miss it.
If you want a caravan/camping shop, there is an excellent one in Porthmadog. To find, go into Porthmadog, turn right opposite the 'Factory Outlet' shop, then 1st left at bottom of that road.
Eating out.
We found a gem of a pub/eatery called 'Y Ring'. Well that's it's called locally, cannot possibly pronounce/spell it's real name. To find it, follow above directions to the Spar, but continue on past the Spar for a couple of mile or so. It's on the Left hand side, and could be mistaken for a row of houses, so take care. It's a white building with green window frames. It has a kid's play area outside, football nets, beer garden and it's also very pleasant inside. Food is VERY good.
The chinese opposite the Spar was also good.
Beaches.
We went on Traeth beach in Harlech. Very nice, sandy beach, but no shade. To get there, take the 'low' road into Harlech, and you'll see the signs. Beach car park, £3.50 for all day, bit of a walk to the beach from it over Golf course and Sand dunes, but very nice. Loos in the Car Park are disgusting - avoid unless desperate!
We had a great time, so I don't want this to appear to put people off, it's just an honest review of how we found Barcdy.

We camped here for 4 nights in the late May bank holiday.
Fantastic setting, lovely outlook and we were free to choose our spot.
The shower/toilet/kitchen facilities were excellent. Freezer available for icepacks.
The people were incredibly helpful. Our car broke down ten miles away later on in our stay, so had to be recovered back home, which made packing and getting our gear to the roadside to be collected very awkward. However, the people that run the site willingly helped to transport everything down to the front of the site which was an absolute lifesaver for us.
Overall, a little pricier than I am used to paying, but well worth it. Lovely people, a cracking site and you will be sure to enjoy your stay here.

This is a great family site and we was made very welcome when we arrived.
Because we didn't have electric hook up and it wasn't busy we was allowed to pitch the tent anywhere and there is lots of space.
Great free spacious showers, hot water at all times and you can alter the temperature. Toilet block also had a family room with shower, toilet, baby changer. All of these were cleaned very regularly.
Laundry room has two washing machines and a dryer but we didn't use them, plenty of room to wash the pots, plus an iron, hair dryer and leaflets of activities to do in the surrounding areas.
Plenty of dustbins for your rubbish that were emptied regularly and recycled glass bins.
Bricks are supplied to put your barbecues on
Outdoor tap for your large water carriers.
Our days were spent on Black Rock Sands at Portmadog (large Tescos there) were the kids explored the rock pools and caves. Harlech Castle then a long walk on the Roman Steps. The highest waterfall in Wales the Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall. A ride on Ffestiniog Railway steam train. Mount Snowdon. Playing on the sand dunes on Harlech beach.
Fish and chip shop and a cafe in Harlech.
I wouldn't hesitate returning to this site, and yhe children would certainly enjoy another holiday here.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay then look no further. This is a 4 star site but needs to be reviewed as I think they deserve 5!
Having just changed from trailer tent to caravan, we decided to test everything with a short break at Barcdy. Having stayed here a few times previously, we knew that the standards are very high and the owners extremely friendly. We were surprised to find a number of 'improvements' have been completed - wouldn't have thought it possible for Barcdy to get any better. One of the improvements was the top touring pitch were we stayed with an excellent view down the valley.
Barcdy has wifi for a nominal charge based on a daily, three day or weekly rate - we paid for 1 day as my other half had to fix a problem at work - very happy to find superfast connection.
Close to our pitch was a grassed area for tents which was on a hill. However, it's nice to see that there are 4 pitches which have been tiered and levelled.
The facilities are the best we have experienced in 22 years of camping and are cleaned 3 times per day. The owners are constantly working, always happy and willing to assist you, even helping us to pitch the caravan. There are 2 facility blocks both with showers, toilets, chemical disposal and laundry. The site is very quiet and family friendly and has some fantastic views. The site is located in a lovely part of Wales, with lots to see and do for all weather conditions.
We love it here so much, we are hoping to get a seasonal pitch for next year - why mess about with towing the caravan when we could just drive down here each weekend.

Just got back from a fantastic week away in N Wales. This was a fab campsite to stay at. It was spacious, clean and friendly with a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The showers toilets and washing up facilities were constantly kept clean and as a result everyone staying there appeared to respect this and also clean up after themselves. There was an inside and an outside washing area and we never queued. The showers were free and always hot and again, we never queued. 2 Hairdryers were available at a cost of 20p but next to them were plugs for your own use. For a 10p donation per ice pack to a local charity we were able to freeze our packs daily. Well lit at night but low level lighting so not affected when in tent. No strict rules but everyone was courteous so not needed. We were amazed to see a full sign at the entrance on the Saturday when there was still so much space but guessed it meant they didn't want facilities to be overused and people to to on top of one another (which we very much appreciated).
As for the area, there was so much to do (even with bad weather days) and will be going back again due to not fitting everything in that we wanted to do. Nice pubs / restaurants close by. Went to Porthmadog for big shops on food but local spar in Harlech came in handy.
Downsides? Ground was hard and rocky where we were and damaged a few tent pegs. There was a public footpath (unmarked) on site and it was very free and easy for anyone to walk onto site, but always lots of people around so never felt at risk. If taking children though would give them boundaries and site on 4 levels with rocky areas and woodland. Having wanting to go into Snowdonia on quite a few days it was a further drive than expected and there was a toll road that was a pain (not because of fee - 40p all day, but longs queues while people paid). Initially we wanted 2 pitches next to each other, one with an EHU and the other without but this was not possible as located in different areas. However, in hindsight this was a good thing as EHU pitches were definitely designed for caravans as very hard/stoney ground.
However, would we stay there again - Yes we would and we would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxed campsite in N Wales near the beach with lots of things to do and see.

I loved the site. Had a pitch on the top back of the site which was not crowded with plenty of space between the tents. I was with my 3 year old son and two other family members who had their own pitch. We all felt Barcdy was a relaxing and safe site. We quite often saw one of the owners / staff around the site checking everything was alright. The facilities were excellent and the toilets and showers were very clean. There is lighting around at night to help you find the toilets / showers which are situated very near. The site is not too far from shops / restaurants, a short trip over the toll bridge or a 5 - 10 minute drive into Harlech. We found this site to be a great base to explore the Llyn Peninsula & Snowdonia. I will definitely be taking my son back there, it was a lovely, safe, peaceful and relaxing site to stay on.

Arrived on the Friday and checked in at reception. We had pre booked our stay using the download able booking form on their web site. Emailed the booking form and received confirmation of booking via email. On payment for our pitch we were told to choose whichever pitch we wanted out of the ones available. We had an electric hook up. We set up our tent and then checked out the facilities. These consisted of a toilet and shower block for male and female. The toilets and showers were very clean and we witnessed these being cleaned at regular intervals during the day. The water was always hot whatever time of day. There was also a pot wash room that also had laundry facilities, washing machine, tumble dryer, spin dryer and iron with ironing board. All these were available via tokens purchased from reception. The site also offers wi fi internet at a small cost for an access card. During our stay it rained heavily almost every day and the grass pitches drained very well considering the amount of rain. There is no on site shop but a small village about 3miles away has shops and take aways and a bank. This site is ideal if you want a peaceful and relaxing break in very pleasant surroundings and easy access to the snowdonia national park. I would have no worries about recommending this site and would certainly return again

Arrived on a Saturday. The owner very friendly and pleasant directed us to the pitches available and allowed us to choose our own. This was great as we had travelled with another party and wanted two pitches together.
Some of the ehu pitches have a small hedgerow, giving you even more privacy!
Good size pitches, although dome tents may struggle to fit into the hedged pitches, although other pitches available without. This is definitely worth mentioning before booking!
It was also a nice touch having plenty of picnic tables available.
Toilet and shower block near by. Free showers, good choice of temperature too. Although the showers are controlled by push button timer. Plenty of room in them though, and good drying area space with several pegs to hang any items.
Toilet block also had a family room, which was well equipped with shower, toilet, baby changer and again spacious. I believe there is one of these in each the male and female toilet block.
Laundry room had superb facilities for washing dishes, also sinks purely for washing clothes and washing machine available £2 per wash. Tumble dryer at £1.50 per load which again pretty good value for money. Even offered an iron at 30p per token. Hairdryer admittedly only the one available for hire at again 30p per token for 10 minutes. However you could turn the hairdryer on and off during this time giving good value for money. There were also plugs available if you had your own with you, although only the one mirror so I think this could become a problem peak season.
Very pretty site, well tended to. The owners always seemed to be on site somewhere, and always friendly and helpful. The overall standard on the site is exceptionally tidy, well maintained and clean, a credit to the owners.
The site has one main field near the main road, so some road noise can be heard but so can the sheep, horses and birds! As the site has a lovely wooded area nature is in abundance here. More camping pitches further up but majority appeared to be without ehu here.
Freezer available for freeze packs at 10p per block, and even if the reception office was closed you could still contact the owners in their property adjoining the office for any queries or necessary tokens.
All in all a lovely site, no facilities, but if you want a good quiet family site in a superb location then its perfect.
Location is great Harlech 5 mins away offering a castle, and small number of shops including a fantastic old fashioned sweet shop. You know the kind with all the sweets stored in jars and bought by weight! This is well worth a trip just to have a trip down memory lane. Porthmadog is about 10 min drive away offering larger selection of shops, crazy golf, pitch and put and a large tesco store.
There are fantastic beaches in the surrounding area, the most renowned being Blackrock Sands which will take you about 15 mins by road and is a great long and wide sandy beach which you can drive onto. There is a small charge to go onto this beach but its well worth it.
The only negative point I can make at all about this site is that I would recommend taking a torch, as the site can be pretty dark in places.
I certainly would not hesitate returning to this site, and I know my children would certainly enjoy another holiday here.
