Great campsite. Owners are so friendly and helpful. (A previous review mentioned lack of ice block facility, there is access to a freezer near the farm. )
Views are fantastic and on a clear night the stars are amazing. Very dog friendly. Kids absolutely love the play area which is a godsend when pitching up and taking down the tent and it's lovely to see them always make new friends on every visit.
Loads of room between pitches so never feel cramped. The shower black is fantastic, the best we've ever used.
This site is an ideal base for lots of gorgeous walks, with Tarr Steps not far away.
We've been coming for seven years and are always sad to leave - looking forward to the next seven!

We have just returned after a 5-night stay in our tent. The site is in a wonderfully scenic location and is the perfect base to explore Exmoor and the coast. We were free to select our own pitch but unless you are on electric hook-up it can be a challenge to find a level space. The weather was very changeable and it was also very cold at night so go prepared. We had disturbed sleep most nights, not from other campers but from the horse in the field behind us racing round and round the paddock and screaming like a banshee, but I accept we were in the country. It was also the first site that we have visited that did not provide an ice block facility so it was an inconvenience trying to keep our essentials cold with packs of ice bought from Morrisons.
But let this not detract from what is an excellent site that we would gladly visit again. The shower block was the best we have ever used, the shower was better than ours at home and was the perfect antidote in the morning after a cold night. It really should be an example for other campsites to aspire to. Although small I never had to queue. The site is dog friendly and two of the farm dogs patrolled the perimeter daily and were incredibly friendly. I was surprised though that there was at least one dog owned by a fellow camper that was running free around the playground, friendly but not all children like dogs.
We visited Dunster Castle twice at it was so good. The honey farm in South Molton is well worth a visit especially when raining and there is an indoor play area for the little ones. Porlock Vale is beautiful and the coast road from there to Lynmouth is simply stunning. We sampled a delicious cream tea at the cafe in Withypool.
If you want to get away from it all in beautiful surroundings this is the place!

What a view! Such a beautiful area, right on the moor. Very windy at times though! The showers have to be the most powerful we've ever had! Incredibly clean.
The facilities are spot on. TV reception excellent and the WiFi is good.
The directions to the farm were very good, but it would be helpful if there was an indication of how far along the roads to go as a couple of times we thought we'd gone wrong.
If you want a quiet, clean site to relax then this is the perfect place

Lovely site. Clean and well laid-out. Lovely clean shower block. We were made very welcome and enjoyed the experiences on the farm. Our little grand-daughter was able to feed lambs and we saw a calf being born. The site is in a wonderful area with plenty of walks from the site and lots to do in the area. Would recommend Tarr Steps, Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor Pony Centre, Dulverton (lovely little town with some nice shops and a fantastic bakery). Cafe at Withypool for cream teas and really good coffee. Saw loads of Exmoor ponies and foals. Great views from the site and stars at night were breathtaking. Lots more but too much to list here.

Just returned from a wonderful week at Halse Farm. Stayed in the open field with no hookup. The pitch had wonderful views but was slightly sloped(didn't make a difference to us though). The modern, heated toilet block was great, always enough hot water and the showers/hair dryer were not coin/push button operated. Nice to be able to just enjoy a shower rather than having to constantly press a button! Playpark with slide, swings, tyre swing etc which our boys loved. The owners were very kind and friendly, always available for help/questions. Freezer for ice blocks which was free. We were able to buy gas on site when ours ran out so our morning coffee was only slightly delayed! There were fresh farm eggs to buy each morning. The highlight of our stay was bottle feeding lambs each morning which our 3 boys loved, as well as seeing newborn calves. We all can't wait to return, this is a very well run and maintained site that is excellent value for money.

A very nice site, shower block very clean, water hot. A nice walk along the moors just over the road, dogs loved it. Found this site by accident as the one we wanted was full for the night but could take us the next day, as to say we stayed on this site and would come back again. The only downside for me was that I could not get a phone signal until I left the site and stood over the road but that's not the end of the world is it.

A small friendly site on but well separated from a working farm. Charming hosts who have invested in a proper, professionally built facilities block, which has enough capacity to cope with the size of the site.
The site is on a hill so a bit exposed in harsh weather but apart from that it is about as good as it gets.
The village pub is a mile away down hill, if you want food it is best to book as they are small and popular.
Nearest large shop and fuel are in Wheddon Cross (north) or Dulverton (south).
I can thoroughly recommend this ideally located site to anyone exploring Exmoor.

We booked a long weekend here based on the fact that it was a smaller site without the big clubhouse and bars as we wanted a quieter time on this occasion. The site was very tidy and not very busy when we were there which was exactly what we were after on this trip.
The facilities block was very clean and tidy and although we never saw anyone it appeared to be kept clean and well stocked with toilet roll etc. There is a separate laundry area and an outside but covered dishwash area. Recycling bins are next to the facilities as are the toilet emptying area.
A nice touch is the waste water point next to the tap so if you have a large carrier you don't have to go too far.
The showers were hot with adjustable temperature although lovers of a jet-wash style shower will be a little disappointed.
The grounds were very clean and well kept with a lot of attention being paid to grass cutting and clearing.
When travelling to the site DO pay attention to the instructions on their website about which roads to take and which ones not to take. Our friends followed their sat nav as hadn't read that part of the website and they came down a tiny little road with their mirrors brushing along the hedgerows on both sides and were very fortunate not to meet anyone coming the other way.
Having a large twin axle caravan we look out for this type of information and on this occasion it paid off as we approached through Winsford which is a little tight passing the Royal Oak pub but not too bad from there although a little tight and up a hill.
Probably the hardest part was actually getting into the site as the entrance is immediately after a cattle grid and a very tight turn back on you to the left. When we got there it was too tight to swing in for us but there is an area of grass just up the road where we managed to turn and approach from the other direction although I wouldn't recommend this unless you have good ground clearance on the van and a 4x4.
That said getting out of the site was easier as you can make the swing and not worry too much about the rear of the van swinging around.
All in all it was a very pleasant place to spend a couple of days as it was very quiet and the night sky is just stunning to see on clear nights. There is plenty of wildlife to look for and lots of heathland to walk the dog as the site do request that you exercise dogs off site but this is just a 5 minute walk away.
Bear in mind you are a little way from large shops and the nearby pubs (recommend booking for dinner as we didn't and the Royal Oak was full)

We stayed at Halse Farm for a week in May and couldn't have been happier with the site and its facilities.
A very warm and friendly welcome from the owners - in fact, the correspondance prior to our arrival assured us that we were coming to a place where customers are highly valued and appreciated.
The site is slightly sloping, but only moderately - no problems for pitching our tent. The washroom facilities were excellent - clean and modern, with a good supply of hot water. Free hairdryer use was a nice extra. Two showers in the ladies block meant occasional queueing but hardly a problem.
Two sinks for washing up and several drinking water taps and waste water taps around the site.
Swings and a playground kept the children occupied as did the farm animals and horses. We were made very welcome in the farmyard where the children were able to experience all sorts of farming activities - they loved this and Jeremy the farmer couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating.
The night time skies were spectacular and the daytime walks and views were equally stunning.
A fabulous week, no complaints whatsoever, we will certainly return to this lovely, rural farm site.

I write this overlooking Exmoor bathed in bright sunshine. Birds singing, ewes with new born lambs in the fields, pheasants strutting their stuff and just a few units on this peaceful idyllic site.
Much to recommend Halse Farm, lovely owners, excellent facilities including a laundry room, EHU, free WiFi, play area for children at one end of the field.
Pitches are level, with or without EHU.
Short walk down steep hill to the village of Winsford with a pub and cream tea rooms, I think the village shop has now gone, the post office is in the pub. Bear in mind the wall back to the site is up the steep hill!
5minutes and you are on Exmoor with plenty of walking and freedom. A Short car ride away is the Exmoor pony centre and Tarr steps, the nearest shopping centre is Dulverton a real gem.
We have stayed over an August bank holiday, even then it was not unbearably overcrowded. We only live 12miles away from here, but could be in another world.
This site is unspoilt, if you are looking for bars and nightlife you won't find it here.
This is a place to recharge ones batteries.
