If you want a site that is close to the moor with good facilities them don't overlook this one. From the pictures it looks as though the site is sloping but it's level with hard road access. The shower block is clean and warm and looks and smells fresh. There are good views and lots of birdsong to enhance your stay. If you are an active walker you will come back again and again to this site with lots of walks from the entrance and beauty spots like Tarr Steps in easy reach. There is a good pub in the village with excellent beer and food. What more could you want?
There is about 1/2 mile of narrow lane winding up the hill to the site but don't be put off and you'll be rewarded

This is a gem of a camp site tucked away in the beautiful scenery of Exmoor. The facilities are clean & high quality.
The site is small but has everything you need if you want a quiet relaxing holiday. If you are looking for shops, bars and entertainment then this is not the site for you! It has a lovely play area and lots of space for children to run around in. The moorland is on the doorstep with so many amazing places to discover.
We visited Withypool and Tarr Steps both of which are close by. Great fun for the kids.
The owners could not be more helpful at Halse Farm and we were amazed that this site was not packed out. The location is perfect - whether you want to walk or drive - there are so many fantastic locations to discover.
Dogs are made very welcome on this camp site and not only that, but they are free of charge! We were also surprised to find that this site has free Wifi.
The views from our pitch were stunning, although we did not see a red deer on the surrounding hills - this is something we will be looking out for on our next visit to this site.
We will certainly be returning. Our only regret with this camp site is that we did not have a longer stay there. A very reasonably priced camp site in an exceptional location.

A fantastic site in a beautiful location. A credit to the owners.
As a ‘beginner camper’ with two other friends, we have been to Halse Farm twice now, in nearly as many weeks. The showering, toilet and washing facilities are top notch and always kept spotless. The showers are nice and warm, and are included in the price. Other facilities include a laundry (washer/drier/sink), an information room with pay phone, and outdoor (covered) dishwashing up area. Free WiFi is also available, which enables you to keep in touch with the outside world via Skype/Facetime as there is pretty much no mobile signal (which in my eyes is a bonus).
The site is split into tent field (triangular in shape at the top of the farm) without electrical points, and the main field for caravans/tents/etc with or without electrical points. Another field opposite the triangle is opened up later in summer. A child’s play area also is available in the main field, and is overlooked by the pitches so it is easy to keep an eye on your little ones. I loved the fact that we were able to pitch our tents in any location in the triangle, and could take our vehicles onto the field and park next to our tents, very handy indeed.
The campsite is located on the edge of the moors, literally 30 seconds from the camp site entrance. Route maps are also available with various distance walks. The views are spectacular, as is the dark sky experience. The Milky Way can be seen with the naked eye before 11pm in the middle of summer, which is amazing at this time of year. At 2-3am, there are stars everywhere to the horizon. I will be returning with a telescope later in the year as the nights start to draw in and can only imagine how good it will be.
As it is a working farm, it is great to see the owners going about their day, managing the live stock. The two farm sheep dogs are a treat to watch and do enjoy visiting the campers from time to time which I enjoyed being a dog lover.
The owners are very very nice people and you can see that they have a great deal of pride in their camp and caravan site. This is definitely a jewel in the area, and I am so glad that we found it.
If you enjoy a site with top notch facilities, as a base to explore the moors and the local area or just to unwind and relax in peace and tranquility, then Halse Farm should not be missed. I for sure will be returning and the sooner the better ! Now where is my diary so I can work out when :)

Great camp site. Great location with amazing views - we saw deer from our window! Top quality toilet block and showers. Quiet and peaceful camp site. Flat ehu pitches. Useful information room full of leaflets. Cycle / walk straight onto the moors. Friendly welcome. Very happy with everything and sure to return.

Our first impression was fantastic.
When we booked in we were greeted with warm and friendly faces.
It was nice to be allowed to pitch your tent where you wanted.
The toilets and showers where kept clean and tidy at all times also where you do your washing up was nice.
There is no signal for mobile phones so was nice to have the public phone. With lots of local information there.
The entrance/exit is on to exmoor park so you get to watch the deer and ponies and also listen to the owls at dusk.
The local village has a lovely little shop and cafe, you can also watch local artists at work. The pub there is called the royal oak and is really nice and friendly and has a nice menu.
We would definitely go back and look forward to it.

Fantastic, what a gem
We stayed for one week with our dog and had the best time ever. The site is clean, with roomy pitches and very peaceful. The toilet block is like new and a real credit to the owners.
We are keen walkers and to be honest you can spend the week just walking out from the site and never have to use the car. The Royal Oak in Winsford does great food as does the cafe in the village. The village shop is well stocked and does great home made pasties every day, the best we have had for some time and we are Cornish! The views, wildlife and the peace and quiet make this a real treat for anyone wanting to have a relaxing break. It is also very dog friendly. For families there is plenty to do within a short distance, but in our view the site is best suited for adults and those looking to stretch their legs in the beautiful surroundings, or just relaxing and taking in the scenery. Thanks again to the owners, we will definitely return as soon as we can.

I am one of the leaders at South Somerset Open Award Centre Duke of Edinburgh group, we stayed here for 2 nights during the silver qualifying expedition for the students.
The area is generally good, only slightly sloping in some areas.
Facilities are fantastic, they have had a refurbishment in the toilet blocks which looks amazing, not that it wasn't good before!
The owners were great, really friendly, laid back and approachable, and for the D of E, the lady takes a personal interest in the students and allows their phone number to be used in emergencies to contact us as signal in the fields is appalling.
Good site, great views, great owners

This is a beautiful site, high on Exmoor with views across farmland and the moor where you can sit outside your tent and watch Exmoor ponies, deer, buzzards and a variety of smaller wildlife not forgetting the sheep.
The site has two fields extending to a third at busy times. The first field is flat and for tents. The second, larger, field has electric hook up points and some non-ehu space which can slope somewhat, you need to pick your spot. Having said that, we pitched on a slope and it was fine.
The shower block is first rate. In the ladies (I assume the men's is the same) there are two showers and three sinks with more loos. The temperature of the water in the showers can be regulated and they are no longer push button. The shower head can be removed. Everything is super clean and there's even a bottle of ecover with a j-cloth so you can clean your sink after use. Each sink has a built-in soap dispenser and there's a hot air hand dryer which actually works. There's also a free hairdryer. The washing up area has two sinks and sometimes had no hot water while we were there. There's a laundry room which we didn't use.
The village is accessible via the road which is very steep, but you can also walk across the moor which is a more pleasant and quicker route although I wouldn't want to do it in the dark. The village shop has most of the basics (and very nice hot pasties) and there's a pub which serves food. On Wednesday evenings you can get fish and chips from a mobile outside the village hall. Dulverton is the nearest town but if you want a large supermarket, you need to go to Minehead which is 14 miles away.
If you're fit and a keen walker, you can walk to Tarr steps but if, like me, you're not up to the walk, it's a short car journey away. Dunkley Beacon is the highest point on Exmoor and from the top you can see across to Wales, Dartmoor etc. It's visible from the campsite and well worth a visit. All in all, this is a site which I will happily return to. Full marks.
You won't get a mobile phone signal but there is free wifi on site if you need to stay in touch which is a real bonus.
It doesn't get really dark at this time of year, so no really dark sky for star gazing. I checked at midnight, 2 a. M. And 4 a. M.
They do have Duke of Edinburgh Award groups camping overnight and there were two while we were there. No problems either time even though they get up very early and strike camp.

We had a very pleasant 2 nights stay. The owner is very friendly and its a very quiet site. There is free wifi, which is not often on a camp site.
Facilities are very good, lots of warm water in the shower. Washing machine was only £2 for 60 minutes programme. Dryer was £1.
We walked down the road into Winsford, which is just over a mile and had a drink outside the pub. Way back was a bit of a climb but not too long, we had fun!
We would recommend this camping!

I think this was our 14th year at Halse Farm. We go back every year, rain or shine, because we love the space, the stillness & the fact that Exmoor is just outside the gate.
If you're looking for entertainment, give this one a miss. There is a field, a small play area for children, a toilet/washing block & views. That's it; no mobile reception, no nothing. Sounds like heaven to me, but it might not be for you.
The owners are lovely & very welcoming. There are pubs & shops within a few minutes drive in any direction, you can get whatever you need. But the site itself is joyously tranquil, which is why we are already booked again for next year.
