Just returned from 2 nights at the Silver Birches campsite. Very warm welcome from the owner who showed us around the facilities and bought a cup of tea over whilst we were assembling our pitch.

Small site but very pleasant, gorgeous views and the steam train was quaint.

The facilities are to an excellent standard, almost home from home.

Had the best nights sleep ever under canvas as it was so peaceful.

We were pitched near the river so the midgies came to visit which was annoying but part and parcel of the camping experience.

Excellent location for walking.

Ice cream shop in Beddgethern was AMAZING!

I spent 2 great nights here. The site can only take tents and campervans up to 18 feet. The facilities are good, the 2 washrooma are privacy cubicles, and there are 2 showers with lots of hot water.

I did not get the tea on arrival, as the owners were out, but the pitches were clearly marked with campers' names and I pitched and Ian came to greet me when he got back.

I used the bus to Beddgelert, which stops outside of the site, and returned on the train, alighting at Plas y Nant, a request stop e few minutes walk from the site.

There is no mobile phone reception, but there is a telephone box (card only)outside of the site gate if you need to keep in touch. Fantastic value for money

What a gem of a site. Only 13 pitches and when we stayed the most we had were 9 units and it was still peaceful and quiet.

The bathroom facilities were unisex, but being all adults and also so few of us this was never an issue. The 3 toilets were spotless. There were two shower rooms and three separate wash rooms again spotless. It was also handy to have a microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer on site for the just in case. Also had two washing up areas both undecover. Free freezer and hairdryer too.

The site is next to an A road but from about 9pm through to 7am there was no more than 10 vehicles passed.

Beware of the midgies they can really plague you into the evening so take plenty of citronella candles, but its seemed every were plagued with them. Day time was absolutely fine.

It is very conveniently place for Snowdon with two paths within 4 miles. We took the option to take the Sherpa buses around to Llanberis to get the train up and to walk down the Rangers path approx 1. 5 miles away from the site. There are plenty of low level walks available in close proximity and Ian is happy to pass his time helping to plan and discuss walking etc.

Also the site is placed across the road from the Welsh Highland Steam Railway with request halt. Another good way of moving around Caernarfon to Porthmadog and also the fun of waving a steam train to stop just for you.

Caernarfon is only a short drive away for the supermarkets although there are little village shops stocking the basics only a couple of miles away. The Saricens Head and Lyn Cafe offered really good food although some places did seem over priced.

Overall Silver Birches is a five star site and I will be looking forward to returning.

Just returned from 5 days here - the site is in a wonderful location, especially for all you serious hikers around, Snowdon is very close by and the views from the site are fabulous.

The facilities are really good, two washing up sinks inside has to be a huge bonus and although we were very lucky with the weather and it didn't rain, the washer and dryer and microwave available for campers to use are invaluable.

The toilets, washrooms and showers are geat, clean and the hot water is just that - HOT. The site is well kept and well laid out, big enough pitches with space between tents and a small dog area, enough for early morning loo trip before a proper walk.

The site is right next to the road so there is road noise and walking the dogs meant going along the road for a short while to the nearest available field, which had sheep in it - but has a footpath through it.

Being adults only (0ver 15's) it's more relaxed than some family sites, but being quite small, that was a bonus.

The information provided by the owners is superb, lots of walks, hikes and places of interest, useful information to save pouring over maps.

One of the many lovely Welsh railways runs along the valley opposite the site, so watching steam trains is a nice way to pass time.

There are nice places to eat in Beddgelert as well as a useful camping shop for emergencies (our air bed collpased!) but further down at Porthmadog is a large Go Ourdoors (or similar large retail camping shop) and also Gelert is based there - not sure if they sell direct to the public but might be worth looking.

It's quite near to Canaerfon too - Morrisons etc if you need it. Overall a lovely site run by very nice, concerned people.

 Absolutely beautiful location.

Lovely quiet little site, we had booked in for 3 nights, but left early as the rain just didn't stop.

Definitely want to go back when we can appreciate the site and the area more.

The owner is lovely, had a nice chat with him and he gave us leaflets etc and told us about the train.

The only problem we had was pitching our tent, we had a EHU pitch, and the ground was rock hard with rocks everywhere underneath, ended up ruining about half of our pegs, trying to get them in the ground.

All in all, cant wait to go back though cos its a fab little site, with very clean amenities and fantastic idyllic location.

 Very friendly & helpful owners.

Very clean,well maintained,toilets & showers.

Loads of free hot water!

The views are to die for, mountains, streams with waterfalls & a steam railway that runs just over the other side of the valley.

You will hear a toot see a steam locomotive in clouds of steam as it rattles along its track.

It's 10 min walk to the platform where you can catch the train & have a good day out without driving for a change.

You won't be disappointed with this camp sight.

When I go next time I hope for less rain.

This is a lovely site, well placed for visiting local attractions. The cup of tea on arrival was most welcome after a long journey.

The showers and toilets were spotless (the site was almost full during out stay) and there was plenty of hot water. Nice to have hot showers included and not on any sort of annoying timer! Basic shower gel was available which was a nice touch.

Washing up facilities are located inside which was great. There is a large freezer for campers use for freezing ice blocks. Washing machine, tumble dryer and microwave are also provided (there is a small charge for these by way of an honesty box). The book swap is a great idea too - you can either borrow a book whilst staying or swap for one of yours.

We made use of the picnic tables as they get the sun quite early (before it hit our tent!) so we had our breakfast there.

This is a very peaceful campsite - although it is located next to the road we didn't find this to be a problem and the road was extremely quite at night (as were the other campers!).

We enjoyed watching the local wildlife in the evenings - including a buzzard (I think!) and some bats. Also, you can wave at the locos of the Welsh Highland Railway as it passes across the way from the site!

We will definitely be visiting again! Would recommend booking in advance as the site is small.

Just spent a brilliant weekend at this lovely site, greeted by Ian with a cup of tea/coffee and shown the facilities, you def don't get that welcome at a lot of sites, really nice touch. Set above the road on a tiered site you really don't notice the road noise. There are stunning views from the site and a little stream running at the bottom of the, there are some lovely local walks and a short drive away from the town. Excellent value at £12 per night for 2 adults and a dog with hook up.

All the facilities were spotlessly clean, great showers(free)and toilet roll, soap and paper towels all provided. Also washer and dryer, microwave and freezer facilities all with very good instructions and an honesty box to leave any payments in.

What a fabulous and friendly site, and to top it all we had brilliant weather.

We arrived unannounced, with an oversized Motorhome at this small but beautiful site.

We were welcomed cheerfully and made to feel instantly at home. Facilities were excellent; with clean loos, good showers, washing-up sink and free abundant hot water.

There is also access to a washing-machine and tumble-drier (at fair extra cost), lots of local info is available and a rare book-swap. Ian and Marion are brilliant hosts creating a homely yet 'free' feel.

Marvellous value and I would recommend to anyone with a tent or MH (unsuitable for caravans)

This campsite is absolutely wonderful. Ian and Marion make excellent hosts. Starting with an offer of tea or coffee on first arriving to the cleanliness of the facilities. First class. The peace and tranquility of the site is perfect and the views are lovely. We had perfect weather, which does help. The view of the Welsh Highland Railway is great. Every time we heard the whistle we would come out of the tent to see it. There is plenty to do in the local area and there are three major supermarkets in Caernarfon to stock up. Cant wait to return. Roll on 2011.
