Very well kept site within good walking distance to York centre.

Large pitches and very pleasant owners. Noise from busy road might be a problem from campers in tents.

Excellent site, well kept and quiet.

Small playground for children, entry and exit barriers with security code for added peace of mind.

Great site to visit York,

We will definitely be back to visit again.

Excellent three night stay dry pitch and we had wind rain and snow but excellent location 5 minutes from leisure and retail park and park and ride into York.

Would stay again when visiting York.

This is a very handy CL site for visiting York which is 2 miles away.

A short walk from the site brings you to Monks Cross with a huge range of shops available and the Park & Ride into York.

Friendly and welcoming owner.

Large, level hard standing pitches and a small toilet/shower.

Excellent site.

This site is just so friendly, well laid out and perfect for a walk into York. The owners really couldn't do enough for us and made our trip so special. We will be using this again and again!

What a gem, loved this site, owner really friendly. York a little walk away (approx 2 miles) but bus also stops outside the site.

Monks shopping centre a few minutes walk from the site.

Quiet site and pitches well spread out.

A lovely site. Great location brilliant facilities, lovely friendly owner. We did not take our little one with us but I am sure she would have gotten a warm welcome.

It was our first caravanning experience and it was really memorable.

I can't understand some of the earlier reviewers complaining about the price, shower/toilet situation etc. The price especially. You know the price in advance, there's no 'hidden extras' when you get there, so why complain about the sites charges in a review when you get home?

Same with the shower and toilet. Yes, it's not ideal there being only one, but we found that we didn't have to queue once in 3 days, and paying 20p for a shower is neither here nor there. Well, my shower was 20p, for some reason that only lady readers will understand, my wife's shower cost 40p!

In our stay at Chowdene my wife and I found that everything there is as described on UK Camp Site. The units were nicely spaced apart, and despite being close to a main road, it is surprisingly peaceful.

The site is perfect for a 2-3 day visit to York if you don't mind a 2 mile walk to get there, or don't mind using the local buses. One piece of advice regarding the buses though. I would recommend catching either the no 12 or the 181 as they stop outside the door. We caught the Park and Ride no 9 bus back from the City Centre, and the nearest stop is about 10-12 minutes walk away.

We arrived at the park. We received lots of information about the site and also. Information of the local attractions and travel information.

We found the owners very helpful and very friendly. We felt very relaxed and we laughed a lot. In fact I nearly asked if we could move into their spare bedroom.

We loved our stay there. And would certainly return. We decide not to move in as we didn't get our free eeg or honey' from bev and trev

What I did like about the site: Close proximity to York and the Park & Ride. Incidentally if you do want to visit York daily parking for motor homes is FREE at the Monk's Cross P&R. The site is well laid out and flat. The combined toilet/shower was clean, tidy and new. The site was quiet and peaceful ansd in a good location to visit York.

What I did not like about the site: It was expensive (£19. 00 per night) for what we thought was a Certificated Site. The fact that the toilet and shower were combined meant that if you needed the loo in the morning you had to wait for the shower to be vacant. Despite paying £19. 00 per night the shower was coin operated (60 p for a quick shower) a bit mean I thought. The site was listed as having a motor home service point. When I asked about this I was told that it was in the lane and that you needed to have a 'hose' to use it!

There was no spare toilet roll in the loo but there was a sign saying that if you needed more you had to request more at reception. The dispenser was such that you could not see how much was left so you can use your imagination as to what happens if you run out! Are they worried about campers pinching loo roll?

There appeared to be no recycling facilities, just a general waste bin (if there was recycling then it was not pointed out to us). There appeared to be video surveillance cameras all over the site. One on the entrance lane (reasonable) one covering the top of the site, one covering the site in general and one covering the waste eater disposal area. We felt that were were constantly being watched by 'someone'.

Whilst were were there a large MH arrived and was directed by the owners into the yard behind the owner's house. This was then hooked up to an electric point. Later two caravans arrived on the main site. It therefore appeared that there were 6 units on the site.

Next time we visit York we will stay a bit further away and use the FREE parking at the Park & Ride.
Management response: We are happy to receive reviews and thank photo4x4 for his. We have hundreds of visitors from all over Britain, Europe and and world travellers 99. 99% are satisfied but you will always have one who makes a complaint.

He complained the shower cost 60p when its only 20p on Molton camp site - he could not be bothered to walk to a shower block so used his own shower.

So our site was expensive two nights £38 while the gentleman paid £75 for two nights on Glenmore site - when booking you are told the price its then up to you to say no thank you but the gentleman booked, not my fault.

As for toilet roll its ten inch round with a window in the holder showing how much is left what more can we do ? It is checked daily by me and does not run out!

CCTV is part of our insurance agreement, and the CCTV does keep your unit safe - if stolen it would help your claim at our expense.

Can I add we have not put up our charges they have been the same for 7 years and no extra charge bank or children's holidays - other sites do, we do not.

Recycling - this is optional with our council so no need to carry this out, but we do often sort out for recycling whilst not legally obliged to do it.

We have a service point and I did point this out, it is also signed, but the gentleman could not be bothered - he said it was OK for two days so not my fault. Its easy to use by hose or I open the manhole for a person to drive over - EASY - but not this chap' you cant help some people.

As for six on the site untrue, we are only allowed 5 units on site. We can use our own private land in our property boundary, and the motorhome was a relative visiting.

Dear campers, please read and make your decision and thank you for taking the time.
