The site is fairly hard to find but we were given good instructions and had no problems.

A good site for visiting York just a short cycle ride or go on the park and ride close by.

We thought the site for 5 units only but when we got there there were 5 caravans with 2 in the owners yard plus 7 tents and then 4 pods all sharing one toilet & shower which would have been better if they were separate.

The owner is very good and was most helpful in all things.

At £19 per night and then having to pay for a shower we thought it was a bit on the expensive side.
Management response: In his first paragraph Eric writes the site is hard to find, he then writes good instructions, I find this strange Eric we have visitors find us easy and they come from Europe.

We are a Camping and caravan site this is self explanatory! We have planning for five units and 20 tents - the units in our garden have nothing to do with the site these were two friends staying for free! Sorry about this Eric.

We inform all about the pitch price and the shower, this info can be seen on other feedbacks, Eric I will give you back your twenty pence let me know how you want it via a cheque or cash! Due to the high cost of electricity Eric do you mind us trying to gain a tiny bit back, we have not put our prices up even if water and electic goes up we try and help you all while we have a credit crunch.

We have one toilet due to our council being difficult and not letting us build another, due to green belt issues. Some sites do not have such facilities, but why not use your own in your unit.

Pitch price - this stays the same all year we do not change this even on bank holidays as other sites do! We are told by our visitors that other sites charge up to a £1 for a shower! Sites around us their pitch prices vary from £20 up to £26 per pitch so we are cheap.

Why not inform me about your complaint face to face! I wont eat you, we try and help all and I usually see all before leaving asking if your stay was OK, you had your chance then.

I cant see why you used us when you had been told the pitch price, you could have tried and found a cheaper site instead of visiting us. Please call again I will reduce the pitch price and give you your twenty pence back and a shower for free we try to help all even you.

We have had hundreds of visitors over the last three years and no complaints

This was our first trip in the motor home, excluding DA meetings.

Very glad that we chose this site as we had a warm welcome & help setting up, electric hookup etc.

Everything was explained Service points, toilet and shower facilities. (poss a separate toilet would be advantages)

Quite happy for us to have the dog on site.

The park and ride was approx 5mins walk away, where you could get buses into York, Designer outlet, etc. ( concession rates for bus pass holders).

Approx 15mins walk is very good out of town shopping area, with 2 major supermarkets with fuel stations, Clothing shops and places to eat.

Would definitely use again and recommend.

I had intended to stay at this site for 4 nights, but found it so welcoming and pleasant that I stayed an extra couple of days.

I arrived in the middle of torrential rain which didn't look like it was going to end any time soon.

I was met by David the owner, who showed me where I could pitch my tent, but because of the rain, it wasn't going to be a fun job. David offered me one of the 'Glamping' cabins, which were small wooden cabins with room to sleep two people and a plug socket for electric.

The cabin was extremely cosy, warm and as each unit had a designated 'cooking' space outside there was still room to sit outside and enjoy the weather if the sun's out. Although I had my tent in the car, I decided to stay in the cabin for the duration of my stay.

The site is in a great location. The park and ride service to York is within walking distance and the Monks Cross shopping outlet, which has many big high street stores and a 24 hour Asda, is less than a 5 minute drive away.

Even with the shops being so close, the site did not suffer from traffic noise, the only noise, I heard was from the varied bird life which frequented the site.

The toilet/shower facilities were very clean and the shower was powerful and hot, there was a meter which took 20p and I found that 40p was more than enough for a decent shower.

There have been reviews commenting on the fact that there is only one toilet/shower unit. Whilst this is true, I didn't find it to be a problem during my stay and never had to wait more than a couple of minutes if it was occupied.

What really stood out for me about this site, was the friendliness of the owners. When I needed directions to get to the shops, the owner's son, was happy to accompany me and show me the way. I was given a fresh egg for my breakfast with my welcome pack and David was always on hand to offer advice about local places to visit and the history of York. In 20 years of camping, I have never stayed at a friendlier site and felt so welcome. And would recommend it to anyone visiting York, or as a base for touring North Yorkshire as I was.

We stayed here over a 2 night period, The owners were lovely and very welcoming, having stayed with a caravan and some campers, the site for camping and caravanning was lovely, nice and peaceful.

However we stayed in the 'glamping pods' this was far from a glam-camping experience. At the time of booking there were no pictures available, having glamped before we were expecting the lovely pods you see on the other sites, that we have stayed at before, with lighting and power.

This is not what you find here, it’s more a row of sheds with two benches in, and a small closed off area at the front with a bench. Although we were told they took a double air bed, once on the floor it fills all the ground space and its difficult to open and close the door.

These are not glamping, and definitely not pods, it’s a block of four maybe five square rooms, best described as sheds, please don’t be disappointed if you expecting a proper glamping pod, you will not find it here.

Also there is one toilet and shower, and even though the campsite was near on empty when we stayed, I still had to queue quite a while while someone was in the shower on the mornings.

We found the site easy with Sat Nav, and what a welcome we got fresh eggs for breakfast, The owners David and Catherine, are a lovely couple and always around if you have need them, not like some sites were the owners take there fee and you don't see them the rest of your stay.

The site is nice and peaceful, even though the park and ride is only about 5 mins walk away, and very handy for York it cost about 2pounds 30, also on the site they have some camping pods, that David showed us they were brilliant for 2 people, and possibly 1 child, they were good value we are definitely going to return to this site. Eden Camp, Castle Howard, and Yorkshire air museum are brilliant days out and we would recommend the Toby Carvery that's about a mile away from site, altogether we had a very enjoyable week

Easy to find and very friendly welcome when we got there. Greeted with fresh eggs for breakfast, Very nice too.

Very clean bathroom and toilet, could possibly use another shower and toilet block just in case its full. Easy reach for York and bus station.

Monks shopping centre about 5 mins drive away. Sat-Nav will take you straight to the camp site. The site has plenty of space for pitches and the hook-ups are well positioned if needed.

Thank you very much for the stay will come back again.

The price seemed expensive for the facilities, the toilet and shower where in the same room, meaning that if you wanted to use the loo and someone was in the shower you had to sometimes join a queue that is not under cover. They also didn't put on the advert that you have to pay extra to use the shower. The washing up facilities were all in the open so if its was raining you'd get wet. There is only one toilet on site. The owner was very friendly
Management response: Our prices are more often cheaper than other sites in our local area we do not charge extra if your not a camping club member some sites do! We do not hide information about spending 20p on a shower if TRACY had said she could not afford the 20p I would willingly have donated it to her.

Our site has more facilities than some others have. The washing up area was put in place for tenters use not caravanners they have their own washing up facilities may I just say when washing up please use the plug do not just run the tap please help us save water!

I try and ask all campers during their stay and before they leave if all was well if they have any problems we try to make all good. All persons requesting bookings via the Internet or phone are informed about prices before booking if its a little expensive for Tracy our advice is do not book we believe the lady didn't even book with us she stayed with others as a guest.

Tracy do not forget our out goings for our site all hidden costs.
Business rates, Heating oil to heat hot water, power does not come cheap water costs, rubbish left to clear, hedge cutting, grass cutting twice a week, Cleaning the toilet and shower three or more times a day we supply Soap, hand drier, toilet paper £27 for six large rolls these all cost money our petrol bill and its all in your pitch price.

A motor Home or caravan pitch price includes two persons, one awning or gazeboe and hook up we do not charge for extra cars or dogs children under two years are free.

Best of luck with your next camp site Tracy but do not forget ask the owners for all information before booking

This is a gem of a site to visit the centre of York, firstly you have a less than 10 minute walk to the park and ride which you only pay for adults on. Regular service. Last bus from York about 6. 30 I think.

Secondly, the site owners are just fab. The field is flat and quiet. We were told to set with a choice of pitches, slabs for a bbq were all to hand and the owner was very accommodating.

Thirdly the toilet and shower, just the one for the site and if someone was in the shower you couldn't use the toilet, however this didn't cause any problems unless you get someone who likes an hour shower ! They are looking into more amenities at the moment though.

We had a great time over night and loved the site. Will be going back.

We visit York every year and normally stay at the larger club sites. Until now.

This site has everything you need. Clean facilities, handiness for the park and ride and two most accommodating owners. Small supermarket and other shops only two minutes away by car.

Stayed for seven nights this time. Will return next year for probably longer. Recommend the Eden Camp which is basically a large WW2 museum £5. 50 entry.

You will need all day to view it properly as there is so much to see. Don, t miss the Railway Museum.

You can catch the Road Train from York Minster which is a treat in itself.

We arrived at Chowdene on Friday to be greeted by the site owners who were very helpful and kind. We were given a little pack containing useful information about Yoke and three eggs laid by their own chickens. Nice touch!

We were then shown the facilities and the nearby Park and Ride station for easy access into York. The toilet and shower facilities were kept clean at all times.

The shower ran from a meter using 20p coins, a good shower only used up two.

My one and only criticism was there was only one toilet but people were generally patient.

All in all I would visit this site again when camping in York as it is a brilliant spot for the local amenities.
