Arrived a bit early at site approx 10.30am, but no problem to site owners, very friendly and helpful providing us with 2 eggs for breakfast next morning, paperwork on York including details of the Park & ride, which is a 5 minute walk from the site.
Ideal location to access centre of York using the Park & Ride, only £2.30 return per adult, would recommend the National Railway Museum if wet and it is free.
Small site, very clean, single shower and toilet, could probably do with another toilet if a lot of tents on site.
Would definitely come back again.

Chowden campsite represented reasonable value for money with decent, but limited facilities and a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
The shower and toilet facilities where of a good standard, but where limited to a single unit. The site has plenty of space for pitches and the hook-ups are well positioned.
The location was ideally situated for the park & ride into York & plenty of shops are available within a 10 minute walking distance.
However, the site can be difficult to find, without a sat-nav. Overall, a friendly little campsite with attentive owners.

Just returned from a two night stay in this nice little campsite. Stayed in a tent as we were told there was no room for our little campervan, although the site was half empty on arrival, I can only assume that people had not turned up.
Anyway, it was all good. Nice shower and toilet, friendly owners etc. But it really is all about the location. It is so easy to get into york, by bus or bike and if your reasonably fit a nice walk also. Will return!

What a great site. Close to the park and ride into york. Nice and quiet. Site owners very friendly and would help you out on arrival, we were greeted and shown our pitch and were given some papers on the area and times for park and ride and we were also given 3 eggs from their own hens
Would highly recommend this site and will definitely return. A must stay for York. We were in a 6 berth tent with hook up and there were 2 adults and 1 child and cost 20 pounds per night

Fantastic friendly and welcoming site owners. Found the site easily with good signage. The location is very convenient to York city centre by bike, car or Park & Ride Bus. The pitch was very well maintained and the facilities were new and clean. Also received eggs and York map/info. Stayed in the new camping pod-type accommodation which was warm, roomy and comfortable. A great alternative to tent camping. Would definitely return if staying in the area again.

We visited this site late on in the touring year and were pleasantly surprised that we had the site to ourselves for a couple of nights. Dave and Katherine were more than welcoming and very friendly.
The park and ride into york is about a ten minute walk from the site and much cheaper than taking the car in and paying for parking.
Facilities on site are one shower and toilet on site, for use by both male and female, which could prove busy if the site were full, but overall a brilliant little find. Easy enough to find, just remember to go straight on at the end of the drive into the field, else you`ll end up in Daves back garden!
There is a retail park a little further on from the park and ride if you want to walk that far, other than that there are no shops locally to use for little bits of shopping.
Will definitely return to this one though

Booking made by email, the owners were very friendly and the responses were extremely quick from them.
We called when we were about 5 mins away from the site and when we got there the owner was waiting with a flashlight to show us where to go and where to pitch (it was 9.30 when we arrived). We got a very friendly reception with facilities pointed out to us.
The field was excellent, very flat and immaculately kept. The hook ups were covered by heavy duty bin liners which kept everything nice and clean.
The toilet/shower room was at least as clean as my bathroom at home the only down side being there is no heat in there (not a problem in the summer months but I wouldn't have wanted to get undressed to shower in there at this time of year!) however, the window and door are double glazed so I assume the warmth of a shower would soon warm the air. The shower was coin operated with 20p and £1 coins (not sure how long this get you as we didn't use it). The lighting was excellent and the space was really good.
The access for waste water and fresh water were excellent as was the chemical disposal point. This site is very well though out and beautifully kept.
The owners cannot do enough for you, we even got fresh eggs brought to us in the morning along with leaflets on local attractions and a map.
York was about 30 mins walk away or you can walk to the park and ride about 10 mins away. There is an out of town shopping area about 10-15 mins away with Asda, Sainsburys and many high street clothes shops and for food pizza hut and McDonalds. Asda has a petrol station which also sells LPG which was very useful for us.
We will definitely return if we are in York again without the kids (adult only site)

We have just returned from 6 nights in Chowdene just out side York. Site flat and very quiet, and gives a sense you are right in the middle of the countryside but within easy reach of York. There is one toilet and a good shower which takes 20p and £1 coins, I found one 20p is about 4 mins. Owners were very friendly, and were very accommodating to our African Grey Clicquot.
It is 5 mins walk to Monks Cross shopping centre which has Asda, Aldi, Sainsburys and M&S food for any supplies you may need. Also has a variety of other shops (Boots, WHS, Debenhams, M&S etc) and a fitness centre with a pool for the energetic! There is also a park and ride. In the other direction it is two miles into York city centre which can be easily reached by walking, cycle route or bus if you don't want to take your car down.
The nearest places to eat were Pizza hut, MacDonalds or cafes in ASDA and Sainsburys at shoppping centre, or one mile towards York turn 2nd left at the roundabout, there is a pub called The Nags Head which serves food at lunch time and from 5.30 pm every night.
We would recommend this site for a quiet location with easy access to York.

What a lovely little certified site. First up, the owners are lovely and friendly, bought us out some free range eggs on arrival and sat with us and had a G&T. There is one toilet and shower which are very clean and modern. The site is level and very quiet. The location is perfect for exploring York. The park and ride is a about a 6 minute walk away and is a cheap way of seeing the city. Dont forget to visit the Designer outlet, also easy to get to on park and ride. Wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely return.
