The kindness and helpfulness of the staff team are worthy of special comment.

My awning fell down while we were on the lovely beach at Saunton Sands, I was phoned by the staff and advised, but told not to worry as they had secured it and all the contents therein.

When the afore mentioned awning eventually dried out, I asked if it could possibly be stored somewhere as we were going on to Cornwall, (there's not much room in a campervan)The duty staff very kindly collected it from me and stored it for a couple of days, they then delivered it back to me on our departure day.

I almost froze to death whilst trying to surf! I was offered use of the Disabled shower, because it had a variable temperature and so I could ensure the water was hot enough to make me feel better. I didn't even have to pay the key deposit.

I am sure the site wouldn't want too many 'disaster cases' but their kindness made all the difference to our holiday, which was very enjoyable despite everything.

The site was spotlessly clean, plentiful hot water no queues, a very central location.

The surf hire shop on site was good value and convenient.

We stayed at Lobb Fields for 2 wet weeks in August and have to commend the staff for their dedication through some seriously heavy downpours for regularly emptying the bins and keeping the shower / toilet blocks clean when parts of the site were turning into a mud bath.

We found the site and wardens very relaxed and other than seeing notices posted in the toilets and washing up areas did not see any evidence that wardens were over zealous about rules.

We thought the fees were a little high for the amenities and beaches were not as close or as easy to access as we had expected. The road to Saunton sands has no pavement and limited verges, it's also a very busy road so walking was treacherous and we opted to take the car, however Saunton sands is on a bus route which passes the campsite entrance so for some this may be preferable.

The beaches around the area are great, we preferred Putsborough beach, a little further away than Saunton sands but less seaweed and clearer water. Beach parking costs are a bit outlandish at £7 per day (£5 after 3pm) and no hourly rate for short stay but that seems to be the norm' for the area.

On site, the pitches were very generous in size with large areas left between rows that create a kind of village green feel and provide somewhere for kids to play but a larger area away from cars, tents and barbecues etc would be useful for the more energetic ball games.

The toilet / shower blocks were clean and well maintained with plenty of hot water and no need to queue. As others have mentioned, there are only hooks on the back of the shower door to hang clothes so its a bit tricky to organise yourself and shampoo bottles and probably quite difficult if you are with small kids. My advice would be to take a couple of plastic carrier bags to put your stuff in.

Hot food is available in the mornings and evenings for those who want it and from what I saw looked to be reasonably priced (Full English including hot drink for around £5. 50).

In summary we liked the site and the way it was run by the wardens, we would have preferred it to have been nearer to the beach (for those days when it didn't rain)and think it could have been a little cheaper but this is maybe a trade off we have to accept for having such large pitches with loads of space between rows and no queuing for the showers / toilets.

I haven't felt compelled to write a review before but this campsite warranted positive praise.

We had a prime pitch with electric hookup in the bottom field- a bit of luxury this year for us normally 'plain campers'!

Here is what we liked:

*Large pitches

*Well organised

*Plenty of electric hookups

*Clean facilities, bins regularly emptied

*Hot water anytime

*Felt very safe/had a nice community-family atmosphere with people sitting out in the evening with the kids playing

*Naturally quietened/a murmer after 11am and had no trouble sleeping at all - beautiful!

*Great for the children - playground, large central grass area to play games

*Good local information available

*lovely friendly informative staff

*Close to beaches/amenities

*Some slightly sloping pitches in the middle/top field. Bottom field - incline free.

Can't identify anything we didn't like!

Just an idea: Perhaps an inclusion of a recycle bin at the bin/water point sites.

I should say that the site is not on the beach but it is only a short drive to the nearest beach at Saunton. We liked Putborough Beach, a bit further towards Woolcombe.

We had our bikes with us. It was safe for our son to cycle around the site. There was a cycle path from the site into Braunton but there wasn't a suitable cycle route to the nearest beach. There was, however, a nice cycle along the Tarka Trail from Braunton to Barnstaple and into The Burrows - a biosphere on the estuary, which was moderate and safe for a family ride. The Tarka Inn pub was delightful and served good food.

There is a surf hire hut near reception. The chap was ever so nice. We hired wetsuits and body board for reasonable cost and were given some useful tips/advice on where to go.

Overall, highly recommended. We'd camp there again.

The campsite is in a good location. Near to Braunton, and beaches - Saunton Sands and Croyde. The site is well kept and the staff on reception are very helpful.

We were on a prime pitch (electrical hookup) in the bottom field. The pitches are a very reasonable size, and well marked out. We paid £33 per night, which in view of the amenities, is a bit pricey, although you probably pay for location.

Toilet block is a bit dated compared to other sites we have visited, but it was very clean and we didn't have to queue for a shower and the water was always hot. Only a hook on the back of the door, which was bit annoying as there is nowhere to put bottles of shampoo or shower gel.

The sub shack serves bacon baps, sausage baps, egg, chips, cold drinks, etc, and was used by a number of the teenagers in our group.

You can hire wet suits from the surf shop on site, which was really handy when Saunton Sands surf shop had run out.

We had fish and chips from Squires in Braunton and they were amongst some of the best I've eaten. Some of our party also had a chinese takeaway which they enjoyed. The William Arms was also visited and recommended. There is a little newsagents/convenience shop about a 10 min walk from the site, in the estate next door which seemed quite well equipped.

The only slight disappointment was that there was any open space to play games - cricket, football, etc. Which as a group we like to do.

Would we go again - yes, but if we went in a group again, we may search for somewhere with a bit more open space for games.

Spent two nights here mainly because it was close to Saunton sands.

I thought it was in walking distance but turned out it wasn't.

We ended up taking the motorhome which costed us £9 very pricey.

The site itself was basic. We were in the top half of the middle field. The pitches are a good size, but it was very hilly. Even on the third step of our chocks we couldn't get level. You would need to be careful picking your pitch it would be best to go for hard standing as they are lower down and more even.

The showers were ok but no separate bit to put your clothes, so they ended up getting soaked because they kept falling off the single hook provided. Another couple of hooks would solve this.

There was a small playground in the bottom field, but my daughter was unable to use it because it was always full. Could do with an area to play ball games etc.

Thought it was over priced for what it was. You definitely need a car to get anywhere from this site.

Wouldn't return mainly because being in a motorhome it was difficult to get anywhere without driving.

Pitches ample (we had a 8m x 8m tent and more than enough room for that, wind breaks + car. Had electric hookup which was no problem. Was located on middle field near shower block and they were ideal for the stay.

Grounds well maintained. Wardens helpful and never too busy to answer quastions and offer advice. I would disagree with previous comments about 'too may rules'. We were ideally placed and we walked into Braunton which took us about 20 mins.

Excellent choice of eating establishments in Braunton, would recommend Squires fish and chip restaurnat and our favourite for a few years the Williams Arms nearly. As relative newbies to camping it was a very good experience.

Only negative thing is the Camping Connected internet package which to be honest was awful and had to rely on personal phones for essentials. This is not Lobb Fields problem and I have contacted CC about this. Would we return here Yes, when we have tried other places nearby

Just returned from a short break at Lobb Fields and our family loved this campsite, even in the wind and rain.

The site itself was very very busy, but we still had plenty of room on our pitch and the children had space to play football on the play area. The staff were very relaxed, friendly, helpful and always on hand. They kept the site tidy and even though it was very busy the toilets were always clean.

Like many other sites we have stayed on we had to be off our pitch by mid morning, however for a small fee we were able to book a late stay until late afternoon. This meant we were able to spend the day on the beach (in the sunshine), go back to the site for a shower before heading home on a traffic free road.

We have just returned from a weekend at Lobbs Field. It is a really well laid out camp site with lovely large pitches. The grass is well cut and the grounds all look well cared for. The toilet and shower block is really a big shed but the inside is kept very clean. The showers are almost hot but the cubicles are a little small making it hard to keep all your clothes dry.

Would we go again - no probably not. Why??

1. When you arrive you are taken through the list of rules and regulations and each rule as it was read to us was highlighted with a pen!

2. Everywhere around the camp site, including the washing up and toilets blocks are covered with posters reinforcing all these rules - really excessive!

3. You have to vacate the site by 1030 which is STRICTLY adhered to! How early is this?? In 3 years of motorhoming I have never been evicted so early! I felt so sorry for families in tents who has to get their children out of bed before eight to get them washed dressed and breakfasted, then everything packed and the tent taken down all before 1030!

4. The site is anything but relaxed and probably this is the main reason I wouldn't return - it is patrolled on a regular basis by the wardens roughly on Saturday every 1. 5hrs, in their vehicles, giving you a feeling of being watched at all times! Very unusual behaviour and not at all condusive to a relaxing break

We have just stayed for our second time in a year and have a real mixed view of this site.

The positives are many. Firstly, it’s in a great location, not far out of Braunton in the right direction for Saunton sands. Furthermore a good deal of the site is on slightly higher ground, giving great views over twinkling lights at night time of what I presume to be Barnstaple in the distance.

The lower field is mainly flat with only a gentle slope so gives good pitching for either tent or caravans with awnings. The lower field also has a little play area which is in view of many of the pitches and certainly felt confident enough to let my twin 5 year olds and even the littlest cub of 2 years roam safely.

The wardens are welcoming and friendly and work hard to ensure site rules are adhered to and the site was certainly quiet from 10ish even though their curfew isn’t until 11pm.

There is a great little snack van based permanently on site which I think is open every morning from 7:30am and for supper (can’t remember the times). Great if you’re in a tent on a wet miserable morning and want a bacon butty without the hassle!

Now the negatives.

Well. Being Easter I fully expect prices to be higher but £33 per night with EHU in our van is a tad steep to say the least. For not much more we could stay in a travel lodge/premier inn which entirely defeats the object of having a van to try to have cheaper family holidays. However, I could accept this price if everything else was tip top and if they had something a little bit special or additional to that of any other caravan site.

But this is certainly not an all singing, all dancing site! When one considers what it is, it is just a big open field with a little play area in the middle and not much more.

Infact the shower block is tired & freezing with really very average showers. The water is hit and miss with a press button that only gives 20 seconds on each push and no shower curtains.

And on behalf of the wardens, it seems criminal to make them work until 11pm, keeping their reception desk open when quite frankly there is no need. They could easily close at 10pm, if not sooner, sure enough if there is an emergency, they can be called upon.

A real shame as would visit again if a little cheaper but at this price, there are better!

Really like this site. The location is wonderful, on the main road to Saunton Sands. Not too large to be impersonal, but large enough to have a good atmosphere, and for the kids to make friends.

No club house, which for us is ideal! Pitches are really generous, and there is lots of extra green space for cricket and football.

We picked our own pitch, with advice given when we booked. Great! Could see the play area from the tent and not too far from the toilet block. Toilets kept clean and tidy. Reasonable price too.

Will be returning!
