Went here last week with friends who always stay on this site when they are in the area. We were in the first field and had a standard pitch but there were larger ones available with hook up. It cost about £20 a night. The second field seemed to have more tents and had a slight slope. We knew what pitch we had when we booked (we wanted two next to each other) and there is a site-plan on their website so I would think you could look on there to choose. The staff were helpful and friendly when we booked in and when I needed to find a camping shop that would repair a broken pole.

The site seemed to be well maintained and clean and there was a mix of families, couples and some small groups . Usually nice and quiet by 11 and had a laid-back atmosphere which we enjoyed. There are wardens on site so I would imagine any problems could be dealt with quite quickly. There was a nice playground at the top of the field with wooden swings etc and an area to play on where the kids played in the evenings with all their new friends!

Lots of toilets and showers which were kept clean and tidy. As there is more than one block you can use the other when one is closed for cleaning.

Five minutes drive takes you to Saunton Sands which is a huge surfing beach. (why my friends go!). You can book lessons if you wanted to have a go! Braunton is a lovely town to wander around with lots of places to eat and nice shops. The chip shop is great (been there before) and we tried one of the Chinese take-aways which was fab with very generous portions!. Also nice bistro type places and a thai restaurant. There is a Somerfield but also decent butchers, veg shops and a large deli type shop as well. The town is a short walk away (on pavement so is safe for the kids). No shop on site but there is one a couple of minutes' walk away for papers, milk etc in the mornings.

Good base in a lovely area.

Three of us stayed at this campsite on the May day bank holiday 2008. We arrived late in the evening and our usual campsite (the orchard) in Croyde was full, and the other open campsite wanted to charge us £198 to camp.

Thankfully Lobb fields were happy for us to pitch up at about 10pm at night. The reception staff were very friendly, and we were amazed at the price (£39)

The very friendly man at reception came over in his truck to light up our pitch with his headlights so we could pitch our tent.

The facilities were very good and perfectly adequate, to be honest we didn't spend much time at the site. Also the burger van was perfect for bacon rolls in the morning!

The surrounding area is great, plenty of open space for walks etc and the main purpose of our visit was the surf, which is a short drive away. Braunton was within walking distance and has a couple of good pubs.

The negatives were we got told off for playing frisbee and bat and ball, and were told to go to the 'top field' where the grass was over a foot high, not ideal. That's pretty much the only negatives though.

All in all throughly recommended.

As soon as we approached this site we knew it wasn't really for us. The welcome was friendly enough but the site seemed to be more suitable for surfers than the more mature like ourselves. There is no landscaping or plants to make it more attractive and the hardstanding was just big stones which made it difficult to park. The showers and toilets were very clean and there was a choice of pitches so nothing really seriously wrong it just lacked something. This is a four star site but I can't see how it deserves it.

The area is lovely with beautiful beaches very popular with surfers. It is a pity that the beaches aren't maintained better, Saunton Sands in particular is a vast stretch of sand but the cark park and approach are very tatty.B raunton village is a good place to stroll around and is only a short walk from the site. There are plenty of little shops and restaurants and an award winning fish and chip shop. For those sad people like ourselves there is a huge hardware shop, a thing sadly missing from most places these days which stocks every possible item of homeware, and is very useful for camping and caravan supplies. We always visit it when we are in the area to stock up.

I don't think we would stay here again, not because there is anything wrong with it but because it is just a series of fields with no personality. While it didn't suit us I am sure that for people who just want basic surroundings it is fine.Just don't expect four star.

Carole and I and our little dog were charged £25 for one night, it was the most expensive site that we have ever stayed at. we stayed in the bottom field where the shower block is pretty ancient, we asked if we could move to the middle field but were told the shower block in that field was not due to be opened for another few days, so we voted with our feet and moved to another site. If you charge top prices at least all the facilities should be open.

Our family have just returned from Lobb Fields after visiting the site for previous 3 years and always at Bank Holiday. this time we stayed with 3 other families who were as impressed as we were. It is a large site & it is advisable to book otherwise you are put on the top field which is v. Uneven ground and v. Basic. This time we stayed on middle field, first field is generally used for caravan owners. the pitches around the perimeter of the field are large and sheltered. The shower block is cleaned regularly & showers were generally hot. there was queuing one night although only for 5 mins and in view of packed site it was only to be expected. V. Quiet after 10.30 - 11pm. no cars allowed on to site after this time. No shop on site so you have to go everywhere by car. Braunston is only a 5 min drive away & offers a few small supermarkets & other stores. surfing at Croyde Bay fantastic & body boarding at Putsborough great. All local beaches charge £5 per car for the day which you have to pay as you can't walk to any from campsite but they are well worth it. We thoroughly enjoy staying here & will return.

A very nice site. Excellent size pitches, especially the ones where you can pre-book a specific pitch. Toilets and showers are plentiful, but they could have been cleaned better. A little bit strict about having to park the car in the pitch wehn there was plenty of room to leave it next to the pitch instead.
There are some excellent tea rooms less than 1/2 mile from the site, serving wonderful cream teas and selling home produced veg.
The beach at Saunton is not walking distance (unless you are willing to risk your life walking the busy road!), and is £5 to park. BUT it is the best beach ever! Fantastic waves, lovely soft sand and good facilities to buy lunch (and at a reasonable price).
You should also spend a day at Clovelly (approx. 20 miles away) and see this lovely, unspoilt, cobbled-street village.
Overall a lovely place and a must see area.

I really liked this site. It is gently sloping and has many pitches that are very flat. I booked in June and had such a pitch!
The toilet and wash facilities are excellent. Loads of showers hot all day and night and plenty of loos and sinks. I am 6'2" so I know when a shower is roomy or not, and I am glad to say the showers are lovely and roomy!
Nice and close to all the local attractions it is a very good base for all types of holiday.

Only negative.no shop. But Braunton is only 3/4 of a mile away!

This was our second year running at Lobb Fields and again weren't disappointed. Friendly, Helpful staff and well kept facilities. Pitches are roomy, and toilet facilities in both fields are clean and tidy with good washing up area - didn't have to queue once which is always a bonus. A nice (clean)dog exercise field which in peak times in August is opened as overflow pitches which is great if you have a dog, we stayed in that field last year. There are styles for excess in to other fields for dog walking. Large play area for the children in the first field so if you don't have children and don't enjoy the noise of excited children then the top field is best to pitch. The beaches are fab and being able to take the dog onto Saunton Beach is obviously a plus point. Braunton surf shops are great - agood few to choose from but if you really want a great little surf shop with fantastic customer service take yourself off to Gemini in Ilfracombe - what a great guy, extremely helpful, with some fab clothes. The food shopping in Braunton leaves a little to be desired though, there is a small Somerfield and a small Spar but if you can't get what you want in either of those try the Esso station on the road out of town. A couple of shops away from Somerfield you'll find the most fabulous Fish 'n' chip shop, if you want to eat in you'll queue for a good long while but take away is a quick service. An all round fab week for the second year running at Lobb Fields and Braunton.

A well-run and friendly site. Staff were helpful and chatty. Plentiful toilets and showers - not particularly new but very clean and reasonably spacious. Free hot water for showers and dishes. Useful wetsuit shower in each of 2 toilet blocks. Ice packs are 30p plus deposit. Hairdryer (essential after a late-night shower if you have long hair!) is just 30p plus deposit. Reception is open until at least 10.30pm which is great for late ice pack exchange.

This site doesn't have the amazing sea views of some sites in Croyde/Mortehoe but is really close to Braunton for food shopping and the sublime fish and chips at Squires. It is just a few minutes' drive to Saunton Sands or Croyde Bay. There's a small wetsuit/board/bike hire shop on-site with a friendly surfer who's happy to give you the latest wave update.

Pitches are ample and very well marked out. Site rules such as no cars/noise after 11pm are well-enforced and as such there is a pleasant atmosphere. Even though the site was almost at capacity during our stay, it did not feel crowded.

We ended up here by chance when our 'first choice' sites were full, but will definitely return in the future.

This is one the best sites in the area if you want to visit Croyde, Saunton, Baggy Point for Surfing and great beaches. The best pub in the world is The Thatch in Croyde which does fab food at really reasonable prices, great service too, we go back there year after year. Fantastic ice-cream parlour too and little coffee shop. The site is well maitained and the pitches are generous and mostly have electric hookup. They get booked up very quickly on bank holidays, so it pays to book in advance. There are 2 seperate bathroom facilities, one on the top field and one near the bottom so dependant on whether you like to walk up or down hill is which one you use. The facilities on the top field is slightly more modern, but I can honestly say that both are always clean and well maintained. Washing up, Laundry etc also available. Gates close at 11pm and don't re-open until 8am the next morning so this makes it a great family site with no single sex roudy groups allowed. There is a large play area with climbing frame etc., for the kids. Braunton is a few minutes drive in the car with lots of little surf shops and places to buy your groceries. The closest Tesco's is in Barnstaple so it is worth stocking up on the way through. The staff are always friendly and happy to accommodate where they can. We stayed here several times this season and have booked already for next year.
