Great site for surfing & bodyboarding. Short-ish walk from the beach, electric hookups, reasonable facilities, indoor play area, quite large site. On site shops, wet suit hire nearby. Would recommend. Toilet bock does get busy in the afternoons when all the surfers come back from the beach, & can get a bit sandy with everyone washing their wet suits. Town with pubs nearby, good for an evening meal. BBQ's accepted. Pitches a reasonable size, and a bit close together, but overall a good site.

2nd time at ruda in a tent, previous 6 years in a static caravan. You can tell we love it here!
Great location, few minutes walk from a great beach for surfing and bodyboarding or just relaxing.
Campsite is big but not over commercialised. For the tents there are plenty of showers and toilets which are clean. Plenty of hot water (too hot sometimes).
Pitches were slightly sloping, we were in top field which seems to have bigger pitches. One tip, don't leave rubbish outside your tent as the seagulls will swoop and spread the rubbish about, not good for other campers.
Clubhouse, coast bar etc are all very good. Fun pool is great and a small charge of £1. 50 each which is very good value.
Village is quaint with 3 pubs, 2 restaurants and a pasty shop and ice cream shop.
Braunton has a new tesco which is useful.
We have booked to go again next year.

Ruda is a fairly large Park Dean holiday park and not normally the type of site we would choose to camp at, however, we needed to camp at Croyde to walk this section of the South West Coast Path.
Much to our surprise we enjoyed staying here, it obviously must get extremely busy at peak times, but mid-week in June was perfect for us. There are 4 camping fields which weren’t very busy when we were there, with some pitches having electric hook up.
The facilities were clean, and as you’d expect from a site this size there is a club, shops, pub/food etc, which is great if you don’t have time to get organised in advance.
There is a bus stop right outside the entrance with good services to Barnstaple and during the summer, the “Atlantic Explorer” service.
A big plus point for this site is that it is only a short walk across the road to the beach.
We would definitely consider staying here again in the quiet season.

Very disappointed with this site as they charged for the use of swimming pool, showers did not work in male or female facilities, all this for nearly fifty quid for two nights is too much!
On the plus side this could be a very good site ideal location with plenty for all the family to do. The nearby village had several shops and hostelries to make you welcome.

Just back from Ruda ended up coming back early due to typical british summertime.
Camping facilities at Ruda very good big pitches, plenty of toilet and washing facilities.
Right on the beach park the car and forget it.
Well stocked shop slightly dearer but that's normal or there is a new tesco superstore in braughton second exit at first roundabout on way out of braughton towards barnstable.
The beach here is the big draw especially if your in to surfing ideal place for families as beach when tide is in is very shallow for quite a distance and good rockpooling.
There is a nice swimming pool but you have to pay to use it and it is the local pool so anyone can use so can get busy.
Parkdean took over this privately owned site about 10 years ago and have recently modernised the club house unfortunately they have given it a cold plastic palace feel and is a far cry from how it used to be. It used to have something for everyone now its a characterless shell. Used to have two function rooms and a bar that had a real country pub feel, the hildren's play room and kids had their own shop as well, this has all gone also. Everything was off one entrance corridor now its like a rabbit warren you have to hunt to find things entrance to show bar is through an amusement arcade
Pitches are quite sloping and camping fields would benefit from some terracing work.
Local pubs in village are owned by one firm hence prices are very dear in fact dearer than the club house London prices burger and chips £10
8oz steak £18.Beer lager £4 a pint how much!
Noticed not many people camping on this site normally it would be packed is this down to changes,as they say if it aint broke don't fix it,
I believe the club house in its original form was a big attraction on this site.

Have stayed at Ruda twice now in a tent (previously in static caravans). Location is excellent, couldn't ask for better. Stayed for 7 nights including the August bank holiday weekend.
Even though busy period did not have to queue for showers. However, showers are in need of updating. These always feel dirty. One had a push in tap which only last 5 seconds - literally - had to hold it in. Another 2 only lasted for max 30 seconds and appeared to be sensors but still needed to press button. Made showers more of the chore!
Pitch sizes are good and had E20 for the second year which is on the corner overlooking the bay. However due to its position it gets a lot of people walking to peer over the hedge to check out the waves - even prior to 6am! Also this year as I guess due to it being well used pitch there was very little grass around my tent itself - thankfully it didn't rain or would have been very muddy!
Love Croyde but would reconsider taking my tent to Ruda itself in the future due to state of showers and lack of control on evenings. Lot of late night noise also from the field next to the campsite, think attracted by the 'cappuncino express' van etc. Would certainly choose my pitch carefully if I did. Think other campsites in as good a location would have better control on such issues.
Ruda site itself is lovely (and maybe will revisit in tent, I know it and its easy.!) certainly will in statics but think needs a revamp for the campers!

Just spent 12 nights in this site. The good points first:-
Close to fab beach, clean site with lots of facilities, bin emptying on each pitch which is something I have never come across before? Food in pub area excellent value and good quality. Entertainment team at night are fantastic and they do a great job.
Bad points:-
Very expensive for what you get! paid £560 for 12 nights in my own caravan then had to pay £1.50 pp entry into the pool, this added an extra £70 to the cost of the already expensive site!
The shower/toilet block was totally inadequate for the size of the site and the showers were small nowhere to put your clothes so everything gets wet! The changing rooms in the swimming pool were disgusting, the smell wasn't very nice!
On two rainy days we couldn't go into the pool as the queues were out of the door because the pool is too small for the size of the site and it is open to the public even during the busy 6wks hols. When residents are paying top prices to stay on site they should be given priority when using the pool and this doesn't happen, as there was a mini bus outside with a group of nursery children from the local area attending! we weren't impressed!
The pool is timed for 1hour and you end up with 45mins after you have changed and you pay extra for it, I really don't know how they are getting away with it every year?
The location is the selling point for this site. I wouldn't return to this site because of the above points, I think its a total rip off for what we paid. The pitches should also be all-serviced for the prices and I would prefer that than my bin emptied everyday.
The clubhouse is also too small during peak times you have to get in before 7pm if you want a seat and the drinks prices are expensive too. Its a shame because this site has the potential to be a fantastic site but because of the above we wouldn't attend during peak season due to the costs, we looked at other sites in the area and this was the most expensive.

This site was recommended to us and we were not dissapointed, although pricey - £138 for 3 nights for 2 adults 3 kids, the location and facilities more than made up for it.
We were allocated to one of the lower fields which was level with generously marked pitches. The other campers all seemed to be of the same mind set as the field was quite after dark and not too early to rise in the mornings.
The facilities were well looked, after, stocked and maintained, and cleaned daily. We will definitely be returning, in fact we have already booked a caravan for October half term as the kids enjoyed the surf so much.

We loved this site. This was for a number of reasons. It is literally right on a fantastic beach, so I and my sons could put on our wet suits and be body boarding within 5 minutes. The site itself is well run, with good toilets and showers, although as you would expect they are usually full of sand.
The other facilities are very good with a small supermarket, playground, night club / kids club, pub (very expensive food!) and a swimming pool. From memory, I think that you had to pay for the pool and they tend to let too many people in at one time. It was absolutely packed!
The site is great, but you do pay for it. I think we paid about £400 for a week for a caravan, 2 adults and 2 kids.
You won't get TV reception without a satellite dish.
The local area is also lovely and we have booked to return in August this year.

My husband, my daughter and I have stayed at this campsite at least 4 or 5 times. The last time was last Spring. The reason is it's proximity to the beach, which has outstanding surf, it is picturesque and has lovely sand. The village of Croyde is very idyllic too.
There are two parts to the campsite, one on either side of the road: the chalets and hard standing bit on one side of the road which looks very well kept (though I haven't stayed there) and the tents and mobile homes along with the entertainment on the other which is where we have stayed.
We have tended to go very early in the season, so it's not too busy. I would not stay here for longer than a weekend basically because the toilet block is fairly disgusting, and I can get away without a shower for a weekend if I surf a lot. The facilities are just not cleaned enough. At the weekends it can be really, really busy and there are not enough toilet blocks to cater for everyone and I'm not sure I've ever seen them cleaned.
There is also a coffee shop which does breakfasts in the morning. It doesn't get too busy there but the service is absolutely glacial. If there are more than 5 people ahead of you then I wouldn't bother queueing because you would be there 30 mins just to order (I exaggerate not, and it's happened every visit we've tried to get a full english and we don't bother now).
There's a costcutter which is pretty basic but you can get croissants and things. There is no supermarket in the village (it's a bit of a drive) and the costcutter sells out of things and once or twice we have found ourselves with nothing to eat in the evening because whilst there are some good cafes and pubs in the village it gets so busy they often have no tables left from very early on. Early season you'll get a table though.
The indoor swimming pool feels a little bit cramped because I think it's squeezed into a small space, but on the whole it's a really great thing to have right there on the campsite and there's slides for the kids. My daughter loves it.
On the whole I think the location is so great that Parkdean don't really have to try to be booked out, so they don't bother going the extra mile like employing enough cleaners. We don't often go there anymore though.
