This is the best site I have visited and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. The complex of the club, shop, cafe, laundrette and swimming pool is the most modern I have seen. Proximity to the beach is superb as is the beach itself. Surrounding areas are very pleasant also. Croyde village is a must for a meal at night and I would suggest a walk to Baggy Point taking in a Cream Tea at Polly's is a must do. Good market every Tuesday also. The staff at the site are ever helpful too. Don't worry about noise either. People are noisy as a rule but the site security are firm but fair, I know. My only niggle is that they don't have the toilet blocks up to the same standard as the rest of the complex. It's not dire but it could do with a bit of a makeover. Only about 50% of the showers worked and about 75% of those had no locks on the doors. Someone already commented on the open roof in the toilet block. Don't know why it's like that, no need for it at all. Come on Parkdean, upgrade these facilities and you have a five star product. I will be back and that is for sure.

Ruda Rocks, can't say more than that! OK seriously, having spent many nights in each section of their camping field I am very impressed. Some of the comments on here about facilities and costs etc are justified but honestly, you get what you pay for and what you get is a great holiday. Pitches are all fairly level but remember you are on the north side of a bay so there is a natural southerly sloping gradient to the whole site. There are two toilet/shower blocks on the camping field both are in reasonable condition and are cleaned regularly, I know mention has been made about the standard on here but remember the blocks (in the gents) have an open roof in places so are open to the elements all year round. Pitches are huge and well marked, rubbish is also collected from your pitch as long as you leave it out in the morning. Water points are limited but there is one in every field (the water at Ruda comes from a private bore hole so I'm led to believe). The entertainment is included and really good includes a show bar and pub with big TV etc, the kids club is also really good so I'm told. There is the usual playground/amusements etc but Ruda also has tennis courts, fishing lakes and a putting green. The swimming pool I believe is worth the £1.25 residents pass admission. The surf shop on site sells everything for the beach and also hires out equipment, if you want to hire equipment hire it here! (its closer to the beach so less distance to carry:-) ). The on site shop is a bit pricey BUT it is a "Costcutter" store and the prices charged are near as dammit the same at my local Costcutter 200 miles way. And it sells everything you could realistically need in a camping emergency (even a new tent!). This is also the place to freeze your ice-blocks, it costs you 30p per block and they exchange your blocks for an equal number of ready frozen ones, good thing is you always have frozen blocks, bad thing is you won't have yours back. The site can be quite lively at night, it is very popular with surfers and young groups. If you are expecting peace and quiet this may not be the best site for you as drinking/talking among groups into the wee small hours is not uncommon. Croyde itself is lovely, nice pubs with good food, roads are narrow at places and the coastal road from Braunton is a bit daunting if taken at speed, slow down, you may meet a Double Dekker bus round the next corner. Croyde beach is Lifeguarded but remember the beach is popular with surfers because of the strong rip and currents so watch your kids in deeper water. It really is a good place, but remember to book early!

A totally fabulous site. Felt just like being on Home and Away with the golden sandy beach and surfers. Definitely the best beach we have ever been to and within 5 minutes walk of the site. Sea is a bit rough for little ones but they are fine within their depth and with supervision and there is a wonderful adventure pool on site which is a great place to keep them amused. It has rapids, a flume and toddler safe areas. They even lend you armbands and inflatables for the kids. You do have to pay a small charge however but it keeps it from being overcrowded and you get ages in there also the kids can't argue when you've had enough. Kids entertainment was superb during the day and night. Mine loved having a story from Monty, having their picture taken with Millie and making badges at the clubs during the day. All ages are catered for and there are facilities upstairs for teens as well as Millie tots and soft play for the little ones. (ask for a brochure at reception for times etc) We were in Croyd Burrows and were impressed with the lovely big even pitches and the showers/ toilets were lovely, modern and clean. Lots of outside washing up sinks, a lovely adventure play area good security well stocked shop on site (although a little pricey, but aren't they all) I could go on and on. Basically it was the best site we have been on so far. Only minus was the cliff road we had to take to get there. If we go again I will have to get some Valium for my OH 's nerves as it was a bit steep and a bit narrow to say the least. Only other gripe was that we were not really directed very well to the waiting area or our pitch and got lost in amongst the statics (as did a lot of other caravans that we spoke to) would be nice to have someone show you to your pitch rather than having to reverse a caravan between cars and statics when you end up in a dead end, or some signage would be a good idea in particular at the entrance as it isn't too clear where you need to go to book in. Especially after the cliff road, my OH wasn't too impressed. Took a few pints of cider at the club before he calmed down. Can't say anything about the surrounding area as we didn't manage to get off the site, there was so much to do. There is a large Tesco about 20 Min's away. Would definitely recommend this site especially for young families ( we have four aged three, five six and seven) and will be going again, once the memory of the coast road fades from my husband's memory.

July 2005 There isnt much I can say about this site except that it was everything you look for in a family holiday. The staff were more than willing to help with any problems that we had. The pitch sizes were more than adequate. We had a 9man tent, a gazebo and still plenty room for the two cars. The ammenities were great, shop, laundrette, pool, family bar and club. We had the sun, sand and a whole lot of fun. There were excellent day trips that information was given to us in the welcome pack. The toilet, shower and dishwashing facilites were superb. There was more than enough for the kids to amuse themselves from a kite flying field to an assault course (but be aware of the tyres).5mins to the beach and there is a market on a tuesday thats worth a look. Overall a great place to go. I will definatly be returning to this site soon.

June 2005 First time camper and picked this site on recommendation from a friend.
Pro's - Staff friendly, pitch size good, showers & toilet facilities, good size pool to suit all ages, on site entertainment. By far the best was the beach which was 5 minutes walk but it can get a bit crowded.
Con's - stayed for 3 nights and each night there were several groups of people who were a bit noise which went on until 2am

August 2004 I went for 3 weeks last year in the peak season, it was me and 4 of my 16 year old friends I thought that it was one of the best campsites I have been in around that area. The shower queues were a bit long but if you shower at a slightly unusal time like 1pm then no one is there as they are all on the beach. The beach itself was lovely and me and my friends are regular surfers that travel there 5 - 6 times a year. In the summer it does get crowded but with a little surfing manners then it goes smoothly. One night when I was there there was a huge storm and a lot of tents were broken, the staff there were really helpful and opened the club for shelter and helped people look after their tents. Overall it is a lovely place to stay and would advise it to anyone.

August 2004 Ruda is a really nice site and we were in Croyde Burrows. Nothing in the brochure told me this was the caravan field, £36 a night mind you, so make sure you are booked into the right field.
Swimming is £1.25 for residents, £3.00 for non and not worth it, I have seen better pools that are FOC. £3 for tennis. A lovely landscaped field for ball games and kite flying , lake with ducks, new kids play area. The clubhouse was busy when we put our heads round the door, we didn't go. Pub was good.
We arrived and went to our pitch, and noticed we were the only caravan, after speaking to our neighbours, and finding it impossible to level the 'van decided we were in the wrong place. The tents and cars were crammed in and resembled Glastonbury.
I went to reception and was moved to Croyde Burrows, it was their mistake (2 hours later as we had been trying to pitch) luckily the last pitch available. It was lovely, horses in the field next door and a sea view. And the pitch was level, and the toilet and showers better than the other side. No dry area for dressing though, and only one hook, but 2 in the toilet!
My main concern is people thinking it is a family orientated beach. It is FULL of surfers, who all camp in the surrounding fields. I spoke to a local who said the surfing has really taken off in the last ten years, I didn't think I could remember it from 14 years ago. The currents and riptides are awful for family swimming, though obviously ideal for surfing. My son, a good swimmer was jumping waves and couldn't swim back to shore, a surfer brought him in on his board, which I am extremely grateful for. He was really shaken up and let me cuddle him for 1/2 an hour in public, (he's 14), thats how shaken up he was. After that they didn't go on the beach, only the rockpools.
The area is really all about the beach and if you have bad weather like we did you are hard pushed to find any places of interest without driving miles.

August 2004 As I was so impressed at Parkdeans efforts up in Tummel Valley I had to try Ruda at the opposite end of the country. Great atmosphere staying in the area allocated to tents and smaller motorhomes. Ideally suited to teenagers into surfing and other activities, even had a go myself (surfing that is) by hiring a board from the shop on site. Toilets and showers looking a bit tired but the site was packed. Fantastic location with views over the sea and lovely walks ending with obligatory cream teas. I'd go back

August 2004 just returned from a short break camping here.
Large pitch not too far far from the shower block. Showers and toilets a let down though. Unclean and long queues for the showers.
Good large pool. Kids loved it and the entertainment was fine. Shop was well stocked but again expect long queues in the morning. Food was nice and fairly reasonably priced.
Lovely beach at Croyde. Only 5 mins walk away.
Pros's.....great pool, pub, entertainment, pitch si
Cons....noise!!..We were unlucky to be situated next to a group of people who partied all nite. I thought maybe security would have stopped it but they never, shame.
All in all a great site for the kids. A little spruce up of toilet / shower blocks and control on the noise and i'll certainly return.

July 2004 We have been visiting Ruda for about 10 years now, we have always enjoyed it. We have camped and taken our van. The pitches are well spaced. The shop is well stocked and a bit pricey. There is a excellent fun pool the only downside was the lifeguards sit together and natter, buggies are also allowed into the changing areas. The cafe was improved this year but the staff need to smile a bit more. The entertainment is superb fo all ages. The toilet blocks are better on the touring field than on the camping field. The village is superb with lovely pubs some with play areas. Quaint shops and a wicked ice cream shop. There is also a good park behind the village hall, ideal for picnics.. We will no doubt check it out again next year......
