This site is definitely aimed for the more mature campers with the need for cleanliness, authority and structure.

A beautifully kept site with all your needs but def not child friendly - note on toilet wall 'children should be accompanied by an adult' really is this necessary? Endless notes on walls everywhere you go. We did chuckle with other campers how naughty we were being.

Dog walk was meticulously kept and a wonderful addition - fantastic. The grass was beautiful, herb garden and stunning wash up area. Site overall exceptional but.

Is this what families want out of a site? Too scared to throw a ball, laugh or chill because many stressed parents need this over worrying about leaving a lettuce leaf in the plug hole!

Definitely needs a crow cull - all very well attracting birds to the garden but the place is over run by the vermin. What a horrible noise!

We paid a high price to stay, obviously it is high season but not peak.

Porlock very picturesque but sadly dead, no one around, little atmosphere. The Weir is a lovely walk and well worth the visit. We spent a wonderful day there.

Sadly, we wont be returning until we are over 60 and have lost all sense of humour and have OCD. Think the site should be rebranded as Adults Only.

A pretty little site in the centre of Porlock, with several pubs and restaurants. The site itself was very clean and the toilets and showers were excellent. We had no complaints at all.

It's nicely positioned to cover north Somerset and North Devon, but be aware the road from Porlock towards Lynton is a 1 in 4 up Porlock Hill, there is a less tricky route and prettier one, which is a toll road.

There is a small museum in Porlock which is very interesting, and the village of Dunster neaby is worth visiting.

This is a little gem of a site in a beautiful part of the UK. There are loads and loads of easy to hard walking, plenty of dog friendly hotels, pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. The park is very well maintained by the team, nothing is too much trouble and they are all willing to help should you require it - that's with directions, advice and pitching. There are some earlier negative reviews, my hubby and I couldn't understand why - just ignore these. Spotless showers and toilets, spacious laundry room and fab food pre area(if you need it) with fridge freezer and free herbs to pick! The location of this site is just brilliant for a walking hol and touring Somerset/Devon - we will definitely visit again. Thank you Sue and the team.

 We love Porlock!

My whole family have been visiting this campsite for 35 years (yes, really!) ever since I was a child. Last year was the first year we didn't manage to fit in a visit & we missed it.

We are a mixed group of all ages from 1year old to 90 years and have found this campsite quiet, friendly, clean and efficient every year without exception. If you are not looking for a quiet site and need help entertaining yourself then maybe this is not the site for you but we find there is plenty to do and fill a two week holiday easily. There are plenty of pubs in the village where you can get a bite to eat and feel completely safe walking back to the campsite late at night and if you are a walker then this is a perfect base to walk moorland, forest and Coast.

Maybe we are particularly thick skinned, but we do not take exception to any rules & regulations that are posted eg in the loos as they are just a guide so no one can say that they didn't know.

In summary, a beautifully situated quiet site, friendly and helpful staff set in a sleepy, uncommercialised village. Our second home and a place we will always be glad to return to.

The Dandy Owners Club (Folding Campers) used the Rally Field. Huge field with super sea views. No electrics. The facilities were quite a plod from the field so we hired a couple of Portaloos. The site is very well looked after. Everywhere sparkling and clean. Very good wash up facilities. Showers and toilets superb.

Minutes from the town, which has numerous shops, pubs and eating places.

Already had requests to visit again!

After spending a week at this site I am a little bit baffled by some of the previous reviews.

People complained about being shown to their pitch, fine by me, in the summer I was told to find a pitch and three hours later was asked to uproot everything and move four feet sideways It also ensures every awning faces the blank side of the next unit so you are not overlooking your neighbour. What's the problem there ?.

The rules were very strict ?, what they ask is you respect your neighbours time at the site, in fact read most sites rules and they are exactly the same. You have a feeling on this site you could leave your door open when you were away. In fact my wife and I left a kindle and mobile phone on a camping table outside the van for over three hours, still there when we came back.

The people in the statics that live on the site are really very friendly, there is no them and us.

We had a cat with us and he was treated like royalty.

The wardens and owners, politeness itself, and work wise I was exhausted watching them.

The site itself, the grass is cut to almost bowling green standard and the hardstandings are all near water outlets.

The toilet/showers also laundry and dish washing area are a credit to this site, they are nothing short of immaculate.

The town and its people are very welcoming.

I would say, we will be back and what a shame some peoples reviews will stop people visiting this site.

If I was the owner I would be tearing my hair out, you provide a quiet safe environment where you do not worry about dog mess or noise, friendly service and immaculate facilities and people complain. I am baffled.

I would say I am welsh and try to support our sites so I have no interest in promoting this site, but I will be back.

Thank you all for a wonderful relaxing week.

Don't know what to say about this site! Firstly the staff are very friendly and welcoming, the site is spotless and the facilities are really clean. The grounds and grass are immaculate. There are rules which are generally common sense and help keep the site looking so good. There are plenty of beautiful walks either along the coast or in the surrounding hills. The village has plenty of places to eat, we went to the Top Ship twice and the food was pretty good, but the pub was busy so book or get there early. The village has 2 small supermarkets as well as a butcher, bakers etc.

We will return to the area but maybe not this site. We are a couple in our early 40's and found the site felt a bit 'stuffy', hard to put my finger on it, maybe it was the static caravans situated around the outside of the camping field or maybe it was the other guests when we were there? We just felt restricted for some reason. (Please note we are not the party animal types, just like to relax). Its a great site but not for us.

This really is a very good campsite.

We have been here many times in the last 10 years & each time there is something new or better on site.

The ablutions block, is one of the very best in the UK!

The utility block is second to none. It even has its own rotary clothes drying horses!

The site is always well kept & the flowers on site are fantastic!

A very well run campsite that has the ability to make it into the top 100 Best of British Campsites.

The things that could do with improvement are;

TV ariel sockets by the hook up points would be desirable as the TV signal is not the best.

The dog walk needs looking at, although it is ample, it backs onto the secondary camping field. I wouldn't like to be parked against that.

Don't let those two points put you off. It really is a credit to the family that run this site.

The town of Porlock & the surrounding area are VERY dog friendly. Good pubs, good beer & good food. The two Ship Pubs, 'lower ship' at Porlock Weir & the one in the town are really excellent pubs, in drinks food & friendliness.

If you take you dog/dogs with you, you'll not find a more welcoming place than Porlock!

Great walks to Minehead over Bossington Hill or over to Lynmouth over Porlock Hill.

We look forward to our next visit!

We have stayed at this site twice now and both times have had a lovely time toilet/showers are spotlessly clean and at Easter were warm. The water is lovely and hot just need to let it run a while to come through. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. It was quite full but still nice and quiet the site is dog friendly as are the pubs in the village. This is good walking country and the walks from the village are wonderful you must wear suitable foot wear but this is common sense. We will definitely go to this site again. You can get everything you need in the village there is a good butcher and a small bakery that opens on fri, sat and sun. There is also a fish and chip shop. There is no play area for children which is good as far as we are concerned as ours are grown up. There is a play area in the village and Butlins is in Minehead for a day out.

We stayed over the Easter weekend when the site was about half full. It is a delightful site, very well maintained and tidy.

The static vans are all arranged around the perimeter of the site and the touring vans are in the centre where the access to the EHU bollards and water/waste points is excellent. The camping field (open during peak season) is closer to the sea, in a big square field on the other side of the trees.

There are plenty of mature trees around the edges of the site, which help reduce the wind and keep the site sheltered, and carefully tended flowerbeds with lots of spring bulbs in flower while we were there.

The grass was in excellent condition, possibly due to the site having been closed over the winter, but most likely due to the wardens helping all new arrivals get positioned on their pitches, so you don't end up messing up the grass by shuffling the van back and forth. Some people have said they feel intimidated by this, but if it was my grass and it had to last all season long, though good weather and bad, I'd want to keep it in top condition too by helping people get sited!

Some of the other reviews criticise all the rules. Yes, there are a lot of them, but most are the common-sense ones that are there to make the site a nicer place for everyone. If you read between the lines on the Welcome Pack sheet, it's obvious that the owners don't want anything that makes the site feel like Butlins – noisy, unsupervised kids / dogs and gazebos / windbreaks are not welcome! If you want that sort of site, go to Sparkhayes or Minehead instead!

Generally speaking, this site is best suited to couples or families with older children and as there is no play area, there is little to keep young children amused.

The village of Porlock is delightful and this site makes an excellent base for exploring Exmoor. Walking and cycling routes are excellent and there are lots of local attractions to keep visitors busy during their stay. We loved the area and the site, and will be going back again later in the year.
