This was our very first camping experience and chose this camp site because it is in a lovely area, not too far from home. So bear in mind we have nothing to compare this site to. Our pitch had an electric hook up, so we were placed in the top field next to the caravans. I actually thought the tent fields looked better, but had no electric hook ups. We were very handy for the toilet, shower/ amenity block, which was kept very clean with hot showers. The wee shop at reception had basics, sweets and ice cream and the lady there is very pleasant.
We ate in the restaurant one evening and am glad we booked our table as it was very popular and busy. I had the homemade steak pie served with chips and vegetables. It cost £8. 50. The chips were long and thin, the puff pastry was lovely with huge chunks of steak and lovely gravy. The service was very good and efficient. I was very disappointed that they did not do breakfasts. I was sure the site advertised that they did do breakfasts, so was very surprised when we found out they didn't.
We drove into Killin where there is a co-op. There is also a very good fish and chip van that serves delicious fish suppers there for 6. 50.
On the campsite there is a woodland walk down to the shores of Loch Tay. It can be a very tricky walk in places so you do need good walking shoes. However once there the views are lovely and well worth it. We had our grandson age 3 with us and for him there was a small play area. It was busy with other children, so he didn't get that much use of it.
There is no entertainment on site, as they aim to keep it very quiet. This was the case our first night, however on the second night, there was more families with older kids, who ran around shouting and three times kicked a ball into our tent.
We had our 2 dogs with us and there is nice woods for them to walk in and their reward was a swim in Loch Tay, which they loved. The worst thing for us was the midges. The place has loads of them and we are all bitten to bits. We couldn't sit outside our tent in the evening as they got into everything. This is the one thing that put us off. It is the main reason we wouldn't go back there and take care with the next site we choose.
We learned a lot from our first camping experience about what we should bring, how to pitch our tent in the right position and what to look for in a campsite. This camp site is very nice and very basic. If having a cooked breakfast is important to you, please remember that despite the website, they do not do this.

Just returned from spending a week at cruachan farm.
We are new to the caravan scene so really didn't know what to expect.
But, what we did get was first class hospitality, an exceptional clean site, very friendly campers and the South African couple who managed the site were remarkable. Nothing was too much trouble and they made our children very welcome and made every effort to help. Infact, unfortunately one of us was taken ill during our stay and the couple went out of their way to ensure that all was well, including getting number for local doctor and nearest health centre.
The site was lovely and clean, shower blocks of a very high standard with hot water and even a wall heater that was free and worked.
The restaurant food was exceptional and not over priced at all. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and we look forward to our next stay at cruachan farm.

We have just returned from an enjoyable and relaxing weeks stay at Cruachan Farm. The toilets and showers were very clean and appeared to be cleaned every day either very late in the evening or early morning.
The launderette was reasonably priced £2. 00 for washing and around £1. 20 for drying.
We didn't use the shop apart from to buy soft drinks, we used the shops in Killin( 3 miles away), they have a coop and several other shops like newsagents, hardware outdoors etc.
On arrival at the site the staff were very friendly and most helpful in getting us sited as well as one of the static owners as it was our first trip, our electric hook up cable wasn't long enough and the gentleman who directed us to our pitch kindly went to the farmhouse and brought us a loan of a twenty metre cable, nothing was too much trouble and we were told we could settle up with our site fees later on there was no rush.
There is a nice walk down to the loch but would recommend either hiking boots or sturdy sandals as it can be a bit muddy and there is a small burn to cross too.
Unfortunately we can't comment on the children's facilities although we do know there was a small playpark and stream close to the farmhouse to keep kids amused
A small, quiet friendly site, we will definitely return.

Visited this site in August with our dog and 2 children. Must say we were very impressed. The main camping field looked a little too busy for us and we found a little spot at the back with only one other tent.
The site is really clean, showers were spotless and hot (although you need to get there before everyone else decides they are dirty). The owners seemed friendly enough and there wasn't any noise after 10pm other than an owl that let you know where it was every 5 minutes.
The kids enjoyed the playpark and the walk down to the loch for a paddle. We enjoyed our first night so decided to stay another. We moved our tent further down the pitch as the midges liked to bite and we had about 100 metres of land all to ourselves and couldn't see the main campsite (all good)
Killin isn't too far and has everything you could need for a few days.
The only negative is that we didn't stay for another few days.
All in all an excellent site and will return again in the future.

We were there for only a couple of nights,
Weather stayed ok for a change
Pitch we got was in good area,
Had great time and site was fab, very clean site and facilities.
Good play area for kids,
Staff at office were friendly and happy to help out with anything required,
It is close to a few surrounding towns for what ever you have planned,
Would recommend it to any happy camper
May try cabins next time.

Just back from 5 night stay and the weather was amazing, only had 1 bad night on the Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
The site is very quiet, if looking for a quiet holiday. The play park was pretty small (great for younger children) with a small burn running beside this giving the kids a bit of fun playing in.
People are very friendly on the site, never had a chance to eat in the restaurant though did get a takeaway a couple of the nights. The restaurant is only open at certain times of the day.
Showers/washing area was terrific and kept very clean. The only other things is that I was unaware that you could buy milk/eggs etc from the farmhouse as the kids only bought ice cream. So had to have a 4 mile trip to the town of Killin to purchase milk etc. Had a great time.

The campsite is set within a fantastic part of Scotland and I cannot fault the campsite. Basic, but clean and friendly. Nice little play area for children next to a lovely little stream - very shallow and not a cause of concern.
Sadly the presence of hoards of midges means we will not visit again. We simply couldn't sit outside our tent after 4pm and had to sit inside with the flaps down and zipped. Things improved in the mornings but the midges were still present. Our entire party is now nursing numerous red, itchy bites.
Sorry, but this is not pleasant for adults and a nightmare for children. It is I guess due to the fact it is close to the Loch itself. As mentioned it's a tough walk down to the Loch from the site and I wouldn't recommend it for children.

Visited this site and by far this is one of the better sites we have been to. You can feel yourself relaxing as you enter the site.
Visited the restaurant at the end of the road which was very good.
The site is very quiet with loads of room to pitch your tent. An easy walk down to the loch.
Completely surrounded by hills (with snow on them).
The toilets and the showers were spotless and very hot and no need to keep pressing the button to get hot water in the shower, just turn it on and stand there.
Killin is about 3miles away with a small supermarket which stocks enough for what you need.
Only saw the owner once but did see him helping other people when they arrived to park up their caravans. Seemed a friendly guy and nothing seemed too much bother.
We loved it will be back soon.

We have just spent 2 nights on this site for our 1st camping trip together with the dogs, staff/owners are genuine lovely people and were very helpful.
Toilet blocks were kept very clean as we're the washing up areas, showers were nice and didn't get the cut off when someone flushed as was suggested elsewhere.
The area is stunning with lots to do if you have kids with a little imagination, dogs that love an adventure or just like the great outdoors this is a lovely place to stay.
Killin is just down the road and has a very well equipped coop if you run out of anything the farmhouse also sells some basics.
The restaurant wasn't open when we were here but then neither was the site technically the owners kindly let us stay a few days earlier than the usual start of season.
Price for staying was very reasonable
We'll be back again in the not so distant future as we really enjoyed it.

We went here with friends for the last weekend of the school holidays. Booked ahead to get pitches with EHUs and after torrential rain for the week, also checked ahead to make sure they weren't flooded out! Lovely site and friendly owners. Nice pitches, although the site itself is undulating. Loos were basic but clean, the showers turn off when someone flushes the loo or uses the sink so it makes for an interesting bathing experience. No toilet roll on Saturday night and wasn't replenished until Sunday morning, but all good, we had our own. Didn't use the restaurant but it looked nice. All in all lovely site, good price and thankfully no groovy club house avec pub singer and entertainment. Can't be doing with the 'holiday park' experience!
