I have used many campsites over the years and I can definitely say Cruachan farm is the best. The prices are low, facilities are clean and the people are friendly and helpful that's why we keep going back. There is lots to do around the area so it makes an excellent base for walking or sight seeing.
It is only a short drive to Killin or Loch Earn there are water sports in the area and my kids just love the play park on site.

Well, well, well, what a nice surprise this site was. Situated in a beautiful location with fantastic wildlife this site is great for those whom love th outdoors.
The site has a little shop selling the usual, milk, bacon, sweets, and the toilet / showers are spotless and get cleaned during the day and at midnight. On site restaurant was slightly pricey but food was fantastic as well as the service.
Lovely village of Killin only about 7 minutes drive down the road which also has a very good range of restaurants and cafes, a Co-Op.
The short walk down to the Loch from the site was lovely.
The kids had a great time also, as the park is situated in quite a wide space for playing and running. The only downside is that the whole campsite is hilly in places and not many flat areas (but not too hilly to deter).
Would definitely visit again. 5 stars from me.
Oh! I forgot to mention; The staff were very helpful also.

Well what a disappointment following all the good reviews. Would not recommend site to families with younger children due to the noise levels in the evening. Although noise is requested to be kept to a minimum after 10 o'clock this is certainly not enforced and not adhered to by campers. We stayed 2 nights and found that the site didn't quiet down until after midnight. Possibly we were just unlucky that there were a few larger groups of campers.
Toilet block facilities were very inadequate for the number of people staying, showers stopped whenever anybody flushed the toilet or washed their hands (which was frequently due to the high number of users) and there was no toilet roll in either cubicles on one occasion.
Kids playground good for younger children and the woodland area great for exploring.
We didn't use the restaurant or shop.

We stayed here mid week in a tent, 2 adults, a 6 year old boy and a 4 week old baby. Lovely site, the camping areas are split into different 'fields' so there was lots of choice of where to pitch our tent, nice and quiet too so everyone had plenty of space and privacy. (important with a 4 week old - although she hardly cried at all!) Am sure there would be a lot more tents at the weekend though.
Check in was very relaxed, was able to choose our own site and paid when we were ready. Very good price too. Toilet block was clean and had everything you needed. Kids play park was basic but to be honest there was so much open space our son enjoyed running around more and exploring with other kids he met. Also a good 'Gruffalo' style woodland walk down (quite steep) to the loch side for some stone throwing.
Local services and activities in Killin just 5mins drive away. Only point to mention was the on site restaurant is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Overall a lovely simple site, not too big, great for young kids who are happy to use their imagination to entertain themselves, and lovely for adults looking for a quiet site in a beautiful location.
Will be back!

Excellent site with very reasonable prices. High standard toilet block. Good sized play area. Chocks required for grass pitches. Short walk through woods to Loch Tay.
Reception in farmhouse selling milk, juice, chocolate. Cafe/restaurant on site, open from 6pm - not used. Only stayed one night at end of round Scotland trip but would happily have stayed longer.

What a pleasant surprise this site was. The staff were very friendly and told us to pitch where we wanted which was nice. It was amazing value for money at only ten per night for 2 adults (no extra charge for dogs).
The site can take 40 tents but I would guess only half of this amount would be on a flat(ish) pitch. The site is quite hilly being on the side of a loch so I guess sloping pitches is to be expected. We were lucky as our tent is long so fitted snugly on a level plateau just in front of the statics. We were next to a little stream which babbled gently (very good to help you get to sleep on a night).
The site is great for nature lovers with lots of birds and ducks and even bats. The walk down to the loch through the woods is great especially for the dogs but wouldn't be that suitable for the less infirm as it is steep. The dogs run riot down on the loch shore and swimming which tired them out. We were the only ones down there so it's great if you have dogs that like to be off the lead. We were disappointed with the rubbish on the loch shore (baby nappies / beer cans / remains of fires) but this didn't distract from the beauty of the loch (I can't see how the site staff could 'police' this either even though there were many signs re the countryside code etc).
The facilities were good (a bit dated), although after a day or so there was a lot of grass being walked in. We tended to use the other facilities at the top of the site situated amongst the statics. These tended to be much cleaner and quieter and bright due to having windows. My OH did mention that the shower went off when someone else flushed a loo though!
We had car trouble on one day and the staff were very helpful. There is EHU on site for some pitches but I think these tend to be situated near to the facilities and the children's playground. We didn't need EHU but those pitches looked fairly flat.
The site is a great base to explore and Killin is worth a visit, it has that seaside town feel to it and attracts a lot of tourists. Expect to meet a few on the interesting bridge at Dochart Falls!
A highly recommended site and definitely one of my favourites for this area of Scotland.

Site facilities were clean and tidy. The playground was small but adequate for the younger children. On site restaurant looked nice. Good to see the site is a dog friendly site but feel that all animals should be kept on the lead and under the control of the owners. Lovely and quiet run site on the whole.
The views were great even if there was a lot of low cloud. Killin sits nestled on low ground and has plenty to offer for restaurants and public houses.

We stayed here for 8 days. Very friendly and relaxed site. Stunning views. Facilities good, water pressure in top shower block was slow at times. Always plenty hot water.
Restaurant on site excellent. Very friendly and accommodation staff. Short drive into Killin which has lovely shops with a well stocked supermarket. Superb hotels and restaurants to eat and pubs to have a drink.
Small Marina next to campsite which is open to the public with various activities which can be enjoyed by all ages. Enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.

My wife and I stayed at Cruachan for the week commencing 17th August 2009, in a tent, in the far field. The (owners?) Nancy and Maureen were very friendly and helpul, the campsite was clean, and, overall, the toilet block we used was excellent.
One small problem though, one of the showers were dripping constantly in the men's, causing a constant water pool just outside the shower. This needs fixed urgently, otherwise damp beckons.
Killin is just round the corner. The golf course (although the weather prevented us playing it), looked great. A friend of mine has played it recently, and said he found it so. The staff there (as everywhere) were most frendly.
Food - the Lochay Hotel has fantastic food - this is on the right (large white building), just as you come in to Kilin from the campsite, but is pricey. The Killin Hotel nearer the centre of the village (large white building beside the village pub) on the left also serves fantastic food, and at half the price!
Highland Safaris just outside Aberfeldy offer a variety of tours up the local hills. Fantastic! I'd recommend this to anyone. We had Donald (one of the owners)as the driver of the Land Rover we were in. For £37 a head for the Mountain Safari, well worth it. His knowledge on everything from the type of heather to the history of the local community was superb.

Had a lovely few days with family, and two dogs. Wet when we arrived and for the next couple of days. Quite a hilly site so selecting a suitable pitch takes a little bit of sorting. Have stayed here before a few years ago. Loos good, but do take spare loo roll! showers hot and better than most (especially in top block). This was our 5 year old granddaughters first camping trip, and the playpark proved to be a big hit although it was quite muddy. Nothing a few bags of chopped bark couldn't remedy. The chickens and tame sheep proved to be a big attraction as well, all in all, we would stay here again.
Do try the chip van in Kilin! brilliant fish and chips!
