We have just returned from a 4 night stay over bank holiday weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The site is immaculately maintained and has a lovely atmosphere. There are the usual common sense rules but we found everyone to be very friendly. The owners and their staff clearly work very hard. The facilities were always clean and even on a busy bank holiday weekend we never had to queue for a shower or the loo.
Each of the 3 fields have pitches around the edge which leaves a lovely space for families to play. While we were there both children and their parents joined in various games of rounders, cricket and catch. It had a lovely family atmosphere with everyone enjoying their stay without running riot! There is no play ground as such but this wasn't a problem at all for our 7 and 9 year olds as they had plenty of space to run about and play badminton, football etc.
The café served a very tasty breakfast which we enjoyed-great service. The shop sells the essentials and some sweets and toys for the children.
We enjoyed going into the forest and walked the sculpture trail. Some of the sculptures were missing which was disappointing but the time we spent in the woods was great. Also went to Hereford for a day trip which was about half an hour away and very pleasant.
The only slight down side to the site was some road noise. Do not let this put you off booking this site, it is a small niggle and does not outweigh the positives of the site, just ask for a pitch away from it.
Would we return? Definitely!

When we arrived we were allocated a pitch at the top field (slightly sloping) even though we had requested and it was noted we wanted a pitch in the big bottom field. (loads more space for the kids to play). I went back into reception and they gave us a choice of 3 pitches. We also said could we have a late checkout. No problem she said £3 until 3pm £6 until 6pm. It has great facilities in the cafe and toilet block. We had a full english with drinks on sunday morning for 2 adults and 2 kids - £16! Bargain. We went on it's opening weekend this year. Loads of great walks locally and really enjoyed Beechenhurst lodge - short walks and kids play area followed by hot chocolate. Nice chipshop in drybrook. Dogs can be walked locally if you go up the back lane and you are straight into the woods. Only things missing is a dedicated kids play area.

It is a beautifully kept site with modern, clean facilities and a warm and friendly group of staff who went out of their way to be helpful. I suspect they shuffled a few units round to accommodate our fifth wheel on a pitch with both electric and water hook ups (moving a fifth wheel to top up the water halfway through your stay is a real pain) so we were grateful for that help.
The site is gently sloping an although the weather was a 'Welsh September' there was plenty of free entertainment as a BMW motocycle club were holding a rally and watching the amazing amount of kit they managed to carry on the back of a bike never failed to astound us.
If you ignore your Sat Nav (we didn't) it has good road links and is ideally placed for the Forest of Dean and the charmingly picturesque town of Monmouth.
The site's wooden-clad buildings blend well with the surroundings which is why we couldn't understand the metal 'Anderson shelters' they chose to erect for Glamping. These nissan huts were totally out of keeping and a little more investment in the attractive wooden versions would have added considerably to the ambience of the site.
It is no doubt a five-star site with an excellent cafe for those misty morning breakfasts but try and find a pitch away from the road as the HGV's during the working week were a little distracting.

We have just spent 3 nights here with our 4 Tibetan Terriers. What a lovely site it is. Wardens are friendly and gave us the option of how to site our van. We liked the way that everyone was pitched around the edge of the fields and even though we felt a little close to the people next to us we did actually have plenty of room in front. The facilities were spotless. Showers were a good size with an area to get dressed in. The cafe on site served breakfasts and did a number of meals for evening takeaways. Bread, croissants and pastries could be ordered for pick up the following morning. Very nice!
There are forest walks straight from the site where deers can be seen (think we were lucky to see 3 young ones on the last walk we did)
It's a 10 minute walk into the local village of Drybrook that has a few basic shops, butchers and a chip shop.
The Forest of Dean is lovely. Ideally you need a car or a friend to take a couple of days off work to get around to all the lovely walks in the forests. Symonds Yat is a must for a walk along the river with a trip back over on the rope boat! You can hire boats and canoes or have a trip on a boat along the river. Lovely places to eat.
This is an area and campsite that we will certainly be returning to.

We have just visited this site. It's a bit expensive for what you get. And a long way to the showers and toilets. The toilet block are clean and the showers are large. Wifi is free but only outside the cafe and shop, . Some of the staff we're not very friendly. We went with friends we booked separately on line we arrived just after our friends we asked if we could be next to our friends caravan. We were told it was all booked. There were 3 empty pitches next to each other. These pitches were vacant all weekend. We had to walk across a dark, wet and muddy in places field after visiting our friends in the evening. We will not stay here again
|
Management response: We are so sorry that your stay was spoilt by not being pitched next to your friends. However, you did not book together and only informed us when you checked-in. We would have been happy to move other pitches around so you could be pitched together but, in August, when the site is extremely busy, this is difficult.
You refer to 3 pitches being empty during your stay - these would have been pitches on a slope and, as a consequence, unsuitable for caravans.
If you do decide to visit us again in the future, please let us know you are two units wishing to be pitched together and we will be delighted to accommodate you." |

We have just come back from a lovely three nights at Greenway Farm. The weather was just fantastic, which always helps! This was our third visit, so we knew the site well, although there have been improvements since our last visit. The site is now all EHU, and a new ladies toilet and shower block has been added. The warm welcome from both the wardens and the owners is just the same though!
We had a pitch in the top field, which does slope a bit. Luckily the pitch was wide enough for us to put our 7. 5m long tent sideways on. The middle field is smaller and also has a slight slope toward the main block. The bottom field is generally for caravans as it's flat. We had a few Dutch families camping in the same field as us, which added a nice continental flavour. The goats behind the tent kept the children amused. I like the pitching around the edge style, leaving the middle of each field for games, cycling etc. Many more tents could be fitted onto the available space but the owners have wisely kept lots of open space, something that sites in popular areas like Cornwall have abandoned in search of profit.
All the facilities are top notch: spotless toilets and showers, nice washing up area, lovely cafe and shop, helpful reception and well tended grass and flower beds. As we live about an hour away, this site is in our top three for a quick weekend away.

We decided to spend our first ever camping trip here at Greenway Farm - after reading such good reviews and knowing how clean the site had been rated as, we felt it was the perfect place to begin our camping experience.
When we arrived we were welcomed to the site by Graham, one of the wardens, a very friendly and chatty chap, who instantly made us feel at home. He showed us to our pitch, which was a corner one and plenty big enough for our Kalahari 8 tent with porch, with ample space left over to park our car and trailer for the weekend. We had one set of neighbours because we were next to the fence, but we did feel that perhaps we were slightly too close together. We booked a pitch with electric hook-up, which comfortably coped with our coolbox, heater for chilly evenings, mobile/camera chargers and blow-up bed pumps.
Staying over a weekend meant that there were many children on site until the Sunday morning when most of the families left the campsite - although the children were playing in the camping fields all day and were audible, none of them made a nuisance of themselves with footballs hitting cars or anything like that. However, the campsite was much quieter on the Sunday and Monday of our stay, compared with the Friday and Saturday.
The facilities far exceeded our expectations, everything was spotless, and really didn't feel like public toilets/showers at all! The toilets were always freshly cleaned/bleached and toilet rolls were never empty so although the toilet block was in constant use throughout the day by everyone on site (it was very busy over the Friday and Saturday due to all the families staying at the time) supplies were never allowed to run out, and there were also never any queues for either toilets or showers.
On the Saturday we had a little walk down to the village of Drybrook, mainly to stretch our legs but also to pop to the local Co-Op as the on-site shop had run out of fresh eggs. The village is very small and although quiet, traffic travels through very fast and there aren't many footpaths on the way to and from the village, so do be careful.
We didn't travel any further afield this time, as we just wanted to relax and get used to camping and how everything works, but next time we visit we will try visiting some local villages, etc, and review them then.
We ordered some pastries to collect on the Monday morning to save us cooking any breakfast - croissants and Danish pastries - all of them tasted delicious and were lovely and soft. We can highly recommend the Vanilla Creme Crown Danish Pastries! The staff in the cafe are also very friendly and pleasant, including Carol, the other warden, who ordered the pastries for us. Both wardens are always ready for a laugh and a joke.
Although the site is in the middle of the countryside, it's very accessible from anywhere in the country really, due to the M5 motorway being close-by. From there you can get to other motorways, etc.
On the whole, we were really happy with our short break at Greenway Farm, and we are definitely going to return!

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at this campsite and found it to be a lovely site. The staff are polite and very helpful and the pitches are a fair size. We found there was plenty of room in the marked out pitch for our tent, our car and us.
Our cildren found the open field to be a nice place to run round on and although there was a slope, we pitched facing down it towards the shop and cafe, we felt it added to the charm and gave us a lovely view of the sunset each night.
The site shop was handy, I broke my mallet and needed a new one, and the breakfast in the cafe was a handy thing the morning after we arrived and the morning that we left. Everything is well maintained and cleaned and in general the site has a very friendly atmosphere!
When we arrived we were perhaps one of a handful of tents there. There were some caravans but those are in a separate field so no real mixing with the tents. The week was fairly quiet though this changed come friday when families started to arrive for the weekend and we got to see a different side to the camp, its busy side. While it started to feel a little cramped as the pitches in our field filled up, it wasn't packed in tight. It was fun watching all the tents go up over the space of several hours as more and more people came.
I'll be honest and say we rarely revisit campsites as wel like to try different ones but we would and may return here as its one of the nicer ones we have stayed at.

We spent 12 nights camping here over end of June start of July. The site is very well maintained with spotlessly clean toilet & shower facilities. Hair driers are free in ladies toilets. Good campers washing up room with plenty of hot water always available. Laundry room available - we didn't use it so can't comment on it. Friendly owners and wardens. Site entrance covered by CCTV so very secure. Well stocked shop for essentials open in the mornings low season.
The local village of Drybrook was a bit of a disappointment being a good 30 min walk down very narrow roads with no footpaths and very steep hills for the walk back, however a bit further afield the beautiful Forest of Dean, nice pubs for lunches and the market town of Ross on Wye meant plenty to see and do during our stay. A visit to Symonds Yat, both the rock and the village of Synonds Yat East for lunch well worth while. Expect to pay for car parking at both areas.
One small gripe with the site is that we got charged an extra £5 per night to have a gazebo in front of our tent- essential cover for a camper kitchen in typically British weather, nearly all the tents had one when we were there and many of us had not realised we would have to pay extra for this - please make it clear on your web site when accepting bookings!
We had a site with electric hook up which gave us power for blowing up beds, cool box and a heater for the chilly evenings and generally made us very comfortable. Dogs have to be kept on leads all the time as ducks wander freely on the site. There are 2 goats and a pig also on the site which make for great entertainment value watching their antics!
All in all, a very relaxed holiday and no hesitation in recommending Greenway Farm to prospective campers

Very clean site. Too many rules. No internet as promised despite mentioning this daily. The toilets were okay and the showers were frustrating. You only got a short period before having to press the button again. They were located a bit far from our caravan for my liking Too expensive for what it is. Would not go again !
