2nd visit to this site but this was our 1st trip out in our 'new to us' motorhome. On arrival after checking in we went to the motorhome point to find a fellow caravanner started filling his aquaroll up some 5 metres away from the standard filling taps and he didn't seem at all bothered to make us wait. Having waited for him to finish and for hubby to fill our tank, we were finally then able to find our pitch. No one was behind us as we drove around after glancing a vacant pitch near the exit barrier which I fancied as it was more level and brighter than others, only to find on arrival, a woman stood in the middle of the pitch whilst her husband paid at reception. I was a little miffed as 1, a caravanner had held us up at the motorhome point and 2, thought pitch choice on Caravan and Motorhome Club sites was 1st come, 1st served NOT I will bag this pitch before I have even paid! It isn't the behaviour I have ever encountered before on a club site and I thought it was entirely rude. We chose another pitch but it was quite heavily sloped and as 'newbie' motorhomers, struggled to level and therefore spent the 1st night on a slope. We moved the next day to a better for us pitch. The facilities have not improved since our last visit and the water pressure is very poor in the showers although I found them clean. Children on bikes at dusk without lights riding the wrong way around the one way was also a broken rule that I never saw wardens tackle but wondered if they were the children of the 2 already described rude caravanners. Storm Doris hit and we battened down the hatches but did see a few people tow away and thought them brave or stupid. The wardens are always great on this site and happy to chat or advise. Nothing available in the shop which was not how I remembered but perhaps it's the time of year. We will visit the area again but perhaps try a different site.

A lovely site with four pitching areas, the open area is on two levels and two areas within the trees. Most pitches are a generous size with ample room for van, awning and car, although some are wider than others. One of the pitching areas is for units without awnings, so will be smaller pitches. Most pitches are slightly sloping, so blocks and chocks are required. The site is tidy and well kept by the friendly wardens. There is a well stocked information room too.
The site was very quiet when we visited being the end of November, so we never had to queue for any of the facilities. There is one central toilet block, with toilets, showers and privacy wash cubicles (these have a curtain rather than a door), the block is warm and clean, as is the norm for Caravan Club sites, however, as stated by others, this could do with being updated. The block also houses the laundry and dishwashing area. Water is hot and plentiful, the showers are not over powerful, but adequate. Not sure how the facilities would cope during busier times, although there is an annex block, but this was locked during our visit.
The site is close to Chirk railway station and there is a bus stop about 3/4 mile away, Chirk itself is a pleasant village/small town with all the basics including a generous size Spar. The nearest larger supermarket, Morrisons, is in Oswestry about 5 miles away.
The surrounding area is lovely, with plenty of places to visit. The site is on the doorstep of Chirk Castle, with ample grounds to explore. You can walk from the site to Chirk aqueduct, (one end of which is in Wales and the other in England) and the 420 metre long (and very dark) tunnel. Llangollen is close by and a lovely little town to visit, with the heritage railway and out of the ordinary shops. Not far from Llangollen is the Pontcysyllte aqueduct (there is a plaque in the visitor centre to tell you how to pronounce it) and Horseshoe Falls. Chester is only about 20 miles away and a lovely day out, we used the park and ride, £2 each including parking.
The Poachers Inn, about 2 miles away, has friendly staff and is excellent for food, with a varied menu, including a rotisserie, and not too costly, it can be reached via the aqueduct, but we didn't fancy it in the dark.
All in all, a lovely site, well worth visiting and thoroughly recommended.

We've stayed at this site a few times before and recently stayed as part of a trip to Snowdonia.
We arrived bang on 12noon, along with many others, to find I'd booked a pitch without awning instead of the usual! My fault entirely but sadly the site was full so we were unable to change it. We were still given the choice of about 5 pitches, all hardstanding in one of the Dells. Unfortunately this meant that our satellite dome had no signal at all, through the trees, which meant no TV for 2 whole days! LOL
The central facilities are the usual CC set up, very clean but probably need updating now. We remember the showers being very 'dribbly' with no power from our last visit and that sadly hadn't changed! Still you can't have it all.
The site is about a 15 minute stroll into Chirk town which has a butchers, mini market (Spar), fruit shop and various eateries, the best (by far) being the Castle Bistro where we ate twice in one day! Avoid the Hand Hotel, it's filthy. There's a pub along the canal past the viaduct/aquaduct (Bridge Inn) and that was chaotic as it was opening night! Hopefully it will improve!
There's lots to see and do within the area without moving the motorhome! We walked in and around Chirk and back to the site via the Chirk Tunnel (God it's dark and we didn't have torches. Fortunately some other walkers let us follow their light - LOL!). Chirk Castle and grounds (National Trust) is well worth a visit. We'd been before so didn't go this time. We biked along the canal to Llangollen and further along to Horseshoe Falls which was stunning. Well worth the 22 mile round trip we did (avoiding walking across THAT very high aqueduct that I can neither pronounce or spell!).
We do love this site but feel we've probably overdone the area. We will return but it may not be for some time, but would recommend this site.

This was our second visit to this site. It's a lovely site especially at this time of year with all the bluebells in flower.
Pitches are very spacious with a mixture of both grass and hard standing. Facilities are central and even though are probably a little dated were clean and water was hot. Water pressure in the showers wasn't brilliant but was adequate.
There is a lovely little dog walk on site and actually plenty of dog bins dotted around the whole site.
From the site you can walk up to Chirk Castle - we actually walked up when it was closed as we knew we couldn't go inside with the dogs. There are also lovely walks along the canal and over the viaduct but there is also a dark 400 m tunnel to walk through. A torch is ideal. Dogs could get a bit spooked. We ended up having to carry one of ours.
Chirk itself is a lovely little village with a couple of eating areas, puds and shops. Further afield is Llangollen. Their is a bus stop and railway station very close to the site.
The site is very close to a factory and there was some noise throughout the day and night but it didn't bother us. There was also a very faint smell of cocoa beans - again not an issue.
The only downside was that we were travelling with friends who had got delayed and we asked if we could pay for their pitch so that we could get 2 together. Unfortunately company policy doesn't allow that but it certainly didn't spoil our enjoyment of staying on the site. We were lucky and still managed to get quite close.
This is a very dog friendly site (we had 7 TIbetan Terriers between us) and will definitely be returning

Nice site in lovely surroundings. Great walks up to the castle and down the canal over the aquaduct to the poacher pub. Excellent price for a 2 night stay for 2 adults and one child, £38 all in, just like caravan club sites should be price for member's.
I would give 10 stars barring 2 little issues. A wood flour factory belting smoke over the site (not the caravan clubs fault) & the many potholes on the approach road (yes they do require filling in)
I know people have complained about the toilet/shower block being a little dated but they are spotless and warm. We will be visiting again.

We have visited this site 6 times. It is a relaxing site with rabbits and squirrels running around, the hooting of owls at night. It is an amazing place to star-gaze if it is a clear night. The wardens are very friendly and helpful, the toilets/showers are spotless.
We cycled to Llangollen along the canal towpath, which is just over 8 miles each way but a very good path. The other way and over the Chirk viaduct you come to the Poachers Inn after just under 2 miles which is good for a meal. The garden centre is a further 5 mins walk up the road from the Poachers.
The village of Chirk is small, but has all the necessities - Spar, butchers, bakers, greengrocers, pub, café etc. This being a 15 min walk from the site.
You can walk in the grounds of Chirk castle, an entrance being next to the site, but if you go by car it is a further 1 and half miles along the lane to the main entrance.
Can`t wait to return!

Our 1st time at this site and cannot recommend it highly enough. We stayed 7 nights in Primrose Dell on a spacious gravel pitch. On arrival the friendly wardens greeted the kids and gave them a Tourer Explorer pack, sending them off on a treasure hunt while we set up the caravan. The kids loved it and came back with stickers and badges for their effort. The wardens told the kids that if they completed 12 activities from the pack they could come back to claim a slap band each. That kept them busy for 2 days!
The site is so peaceful and relaxing, with the rabbits and squirrels a delight to watch. There are some beautiful woodland walks on and around the site and a good walk up to Chirk Castle direct from the site.
The toilet block is spotlessly clean and hot water is plentiful. We never had to wait for a shower any time in the 7 days. Yes, the shower cubicles are a little smaller but they are perfectly adequate.
One of the highlights of the week was the playday which was organised and run by the wardens. A totally free event, whereby the wardens led a nature hunt in the woods, crazy golf, races, face painting and laid on hot dogs, cakes, biscuits and juice. The 4 wardens were fantastic with kids and adults alike and the afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
All around the site, people say hello to each other and the wardens are particularly friendly and approachable always ready with a smile. My kids were sad to leave this morning and are already asking when they can return.
If you're looking for a peaceful retreat in the countryside with abundant wildlife then this is the site for you. Can't wait to return later in the year.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a tour of Wales. It was a beautiful little site. Site access was easy for all vehicle sizes and the pitches were a decent size. Toilet block was a little dated but clean. Site was well kept with a little play area in the middle for young children and the wardens were friendly. Bizarrely, considering the place is running wild with rabbits and squirrels, we met 7 other lurchers whilst out walking with our 2 lurchers. Funny how we all ended up on a site with so many things for them to want to chase. But it just made for a talking point and got us laughing about it. The wildlife certainly did not cause any other problems, just a source of entertainment out of our caravan window. Considering we had just been to another area of Wales that really did have terrible TV reception this site held the TV reception much better than the previous site and WiFi was perfect if you paid for it. There were so many things to see in the locality we could not fit it all in in such a short stay so would love to return but we drove through Llangollen which looked beautiful with its bunting covered streets, boat trips and steam train and the aqueduct walk. Chirk itself has a few shops and a little tearoom. We did, however, walk to Chirk Castle from the site which was direct access onto the Castle grounds from just outside the site entrance. It was a wonderful walk and we managed a 5 mile walk around the perimeter of the castle without having to pay any admission fee. It would have been nice if we could have got access to the castle tearooms but you had to pay access to the castle and walled gardens to get to them and, obviously with dogs that are not allowed in any further than the tearoom, that was not really an option. All in all a lovely little site and we would love to return to explore the area more in the future.

A lovely hidden gem of a caravan club site. A real mix of Park Coppice, Coniston and Wharfdale, Grassington. The site was clean and tidy and very busy at all times. The wardens were extremely friendly, knowledgeable about the area and very hard working. The pitches nearest the reception area were spacious both hard standing and grass. The 2 areas under tree cover were quite dark. The area around the end furthest away from entrance in my opinion was a little tight between pitches, 1 or 2 less pitches would make the area look less overcrowded when site is near to full capacity. The toilet / shower facitlities are dated but extremely clean whenever I needed to visit. There is a very user friendly information room with leaflets about various attractions in the area and also literature about the many eating establishments from pubs, restaurants and takeaways. I also love the book exchange. Most CC sites have them and I find them invaluable for when I have finished reading my latest. I do about a book a day and always leave them for someone else to read. A basic shop in reception provides adequate if not a little over-priced essentials. Lots of wild life on site, rabbits and squirrels, dogs with the 'chase' instinct need to be kept close. We will definitely visit again, easy to get to, no need to be in and out of the car all the time, loads of walks in area and places of historic interest. Small play area on site for children which I cannot comment on as we do not have children with us but the site is also on the Geocaching trail.
