Having read some of the other reviews I agree with them but would say I enjoyed just over a week at this park and was there on what 'was' the busiest weekend this site has seen as stated by the previous review. I'm not sure if we were lucky but we weren't upset by any noise from either the field with the marque or the bar entertainment, in fact we thought this was a very good idea for both holiday makers and locals. We also had no trouble in siting our van, yes, the pitches could have been larger but I've been on smaller and tattier.

There are a few negatives which I duly wrote on the comments form when I left the site so they know what people are thinking and what some if not all might like. I found the people and staff all very friendly and the staff most helpful at all times, nothing was to much trouble and always with a smile on their faces. I agree with the comments about the toilet block and commented this fact to the owner while talking to him, he indicated they were trying to do something about this. I think the wetness in there is caused by lack of ventilation after cleaning. The owner said there were plans to build another block but decided this years investment was better spent on the footbridge to the children's play area and the site road surfaces.

There are some nice views from the site if you're pitched in the right place unfortunately this is near the field where the Saturday night entertainment is held. I must say I enjoyed the Abba evening on Sat 6th August and if you're into this sort of thing it's a must. It's also a plus to have access to the coastal path for walking and cycling, no need to venture onto roads if you're a novice. All in all both my wife and myself had an enjoyable stay here and will return.

We got here on Saturday and if we hadnt paid full price for a week we would have left Saturday! the band played in the field till 12am and were extremely loud the field was full of adults and young children running around, then the club went on till 2am which was extremely loud.

The loos were not the cleanest ladies not too bad, gents were quite dirty but there is 1 toilet block where you need a key to get in and around 180 touring caravans. Showers were ok but no room to change. The club is ok we never tried the food. There are permanent residents here and there families come down to make up big groups. Good location for shopping

A Jekyll & Hyde of a camp site!

Visited this site for a four night stay at the very end of July staying from Wed - Sun. I think its fair to say it was a short stay of two very separate halfs!

The first part of the stay - Wed to Fri was quite pleasant. Enjoyed a nice buffet style curry on the Wednesday evening and used the swimming pool, play place etc over the next few days.

On the friday evening however it all started to change as the camp filled up for what is probably their busiest weekend of the year. By the Sat evening the camp was full to bursting.

Entertainment was provided by way of a marque and stage in an adjoining field at the centre of the site and - whether you wanted to or not - you were obliged to experience the entertainment as the noise filled the whole camp site.

Once the entertainment had finished on the 'stage' the noise was transferred to the club house where the deep pillow penetrating thud of the bass pounded until 2am (it was similar on the Wednesday evening but at least that stopped at midnight!)

Hence to summise;

Showers - 1 shower block with circa 8 showers per male / female accessed with key (£10 deposit per key) - generally ok but at peak times could do with a few more cleans. Showers very weak and you have to continually press the button as otherwise they last about 3 secs.

Swimming pool - ok but at £3 per person its a bit pricey. You can use the voucher to get money back IF you later the same day spend money at the bar. Ditto play place. At £3 a swim a trip to swansea's LC2 is maybe an option?

Pitches - about average for a commercial site in terms of width - not a great depth to the pitches making it harder to reverse onto a pitch.

Location - quite good. Adjacent to the cycle path and a very short trip to Llanelli with its Tesco Extra / Morrisons etc. We took a trip up to Llanelli's beach front which is quite ok (although part of the estuary). The gower is a short trip away.

Club House - Some good entertainment and good food at normal pub prices. The issue is that the noise from the club house penetrated the rest of the site late into the night with its annoying thud of the bass.

Kids Play Area - Very good. The bridge access across from the club house makes it reasonably safe with enjoyable equipment for 5-12 year olds. Not much for toddlers outside

Site good for - families and people wanting a livelier site.

Site not good for - people wanting some quiet or even a little privacy. The CC gowerton site is a stones throw away which is a class above but without the amenities.

Best pitches - for visiting tourers I would suggest that the best pitches are probably down on the rally field close to the shower block with electric. The rest of the site is far more cramped.

Would we go back - maybe but certainly not for any of their big weekends as the noise late into the night would be too much an issue.

Reviewer: Tweel 9 reviews from this member

Stayed here for 5 nights, 2 adults, 2 children, during the middle of July. On arrival you have to report to reception to book in and give a refundable £10 deposit for the toilet key.

We were told on arrival that there was live entertainment in the field that night and that we should've been told this when we booked - we weren't informed of this.

They don't show you to your pitches, you have to find it for yourself, this is quite a big site and the layout can be a little confusing. We stayed in the rally field which I think was the best place to be as it overlooked the estuary and was close to the toilet block.

The EHU pitches are of reasonable size, we had a trailer tent and awning. The hardstanding field seemed very cramped.

The outdoor entertainment started around lunchtime, 80's music was blasted out for the rest of the day until around 8pm when the 'Showmaddymaddy' and 'Badness' tribute band came on. Again, this blasted out around the site until 11pm and then disco music until 12pm. Although we enjoyed the music that evening it may not be everyone's cup of tea, especially families with young children who need their sleep.

Swimming Pool - We visited the pool twice during our stay which I have to say is one of the cleanest pools I've been in for a while.

The changing rooms are also clean and have nice powerful showers, better than the toilet block on site! You pay £3 each for the pool which allows unlimited entry into the pool and children into the indoor play area on that day, you have to pay again if you go another day. We paid £12 altogether which when you think of it is quite expensive if you don't use the play area however, you do get a refund of the £3 IF you choose to eat in the restaurant and spend over £5 on each meal/drinks.

Restaurant/Entertainment - The function room/restaurant is very nicely laid out. We ate twice during our stay, the first meal took 50 minutes to be served and that was on a quiet night, the food was cold and not that special however on the second time to the restaurant the food was a little better and was served a little quicker.

We did enjoy a game of bingo and deal or no deal one evening, although the site was full to bursting it never really got very busy in the function room, other people chose to drink in the bar in a different section.

Onsite Toilet/Shower Block - I'll start by saying that the showers are a struggle, they are 15 second push button ones and the water trickles out. It's a struggle to rinse the shampoo out of your hair due to the lack of any pressure.

Onto the toilets, on arrival (Saturday afternoon) there were ladies cleaning the toilet/shower block so our first impression were that they were very clean and cleaned/checked throughout the day. This was not the case!

The toilets and showers are cleaned once a day between 6am & 7am and are cleaned twice on a Saturday between 1pm and 3pm, not sure why they are cleaned twice only on a Saturday? During our stay, they were NOT cleaned on the Sunday at all, there was a child's lollipop, a soiled pair of child's knickers and a wet nappy left on the floor until the following morning. Not very hygienic!

Considering this is a site of 200 pitches with the average 4 people on each pitch and we all choose to use the on site toilet block, you have around 800 people using one toilet block during the day and night that is only cleaned once a day and is not even checked at intervals during the day. I personally do not find this acceptable. I have been to sites that have 50 pitches and the toilets are cleaned 3 times a day!

I did phone the reception one day because all of the toilet roll dispensers except one had broken which left one ladies toilet in use for the whole day.

I am shocked to see that this hasn't been mentioned in any other reviews but during our stay we noticed a very strong smell of sewers across the park only to find out on our return home that there is a water treatment works a few fields away from Gateway Holiday Park. The smell can be quite overwhelming during the day and night, really not a nice smell to wake up to in the middle of the night

To sum up our stay, we enjoyed our time at Gateway but will probably not visit again due to a few of the things mentioned above. If it's a lively site you're looking for then this is for you however, if you are looking for a peaceful time then Gateway is not for you.

Stayed for weekend, will not be returning. Tent infested with fleas, daughter picked up dog mess and tried to eat it, located next to travellers site, which is absolutely fine, just a depiction of the locality really.

Appeared to be in the middle of some work as there was also abandoned concrete everywhere, making it unsafe for children.

Only upside was the pool, very warm and clean though you had to pay £3 per person that can be redeemed at the bar, so unless you plan on going out, can be quite pricey with a couple of children in tow!

Very unclean, very disappointed, staff did little to address issues raised. Do not go here for clean, family holiday.

Visited this campsite in school half term with friends who were staying in a tent. We had a pitch next to each other in the rally field which in my opinion is the best spot on this site with views over the estuary.

As you enter the site you pass the club and the play park which are both very well presented but the main touring field looks like a make shift travellers site with its tarmac roads and black gravel hard standings, long grass around seasonal pitches give it a scruffy appearance.

The toilet/shower block was always clean but the push every ten seconds showers are a pain in the rear. The females in our party felt safer going in twos at night although we saw no trouble.

Used the pool once nice and clean, plastic vent surrounds coming loose plus one missing all together could be a hazard for small fingers though.

Don't want too sound to negative but with a bit of thought this could be a great campsite instead of an ok one, prob would not visit again.

I have my own tourer, but due to other commitments, was unable to take my own unit to Gateway, and so stayed in my parents caravan. We all discussed the site and came to the following conclusions:

Firstly, as someone else has mentioned, this site is overrun with seasonal pitches and commercial vehicles, and this gives it the appearance of a travellers compound rather than a holiday site.

The layout of the pitches made it feel very much like a car park, and drainage is quite an issue in places.

The toilet block is clean, but was always wet while we were there (maybe a leaking roof somewhere?), and although a key is required it gains you entry to a kind of lobby area rather than the separate ladies / gents toilets - we felt a little uneasy about this as the ladies / children could potentially be obstructed from leaving.

The club looked fine, however, on arriving there at around 6pm on the Saturday evening, there were 'reserved' signs on almost every empty table, and this appeared to be for the benefit of 'residents' rather than holidaymakers - we were lucky to get a seat! The food is of a good standard and reasonably priced however. The 'sixties night' entertainment was very good, but diluted by an hour of dull and dreary 'Play your Cards Right' competition nonsense.

This could be an excellent site if it was genuinely a 'Holiday Park', but it is not, and those who virtually live in their caravans there have taken the site over and left little to enjoy for those seeking a holiday.

This has the potential for an amazing site, the owners are really friendly and helpful, the restaurant is clean and the food is lovely and reasonably priced. Great entertainment, indoor play area and pool, there is a charge however this is taken off the price of any food in the restaurant. There is a nice outside park.

However, the site allows units to pitch for long periods of time, there are lots of caravans that look very run down and had dirty lopsided awnings.

A lot of people have put sheds up outside the vans preventing proper maintenance of the site and there is a 'travellers' feel to the site also the showers lacked any hanging or changing space.

We did enjoy our two day stay but would only go again if there ws a big improvement to the site.

We booked a weeks camping here as close by to family following a lengthy trawl through the site directory and were not disappointed with our choice.

With 7 (and puppy) in our party were amazed at the size of the pitches available and the location.

Being sited in the rally field with electric hook up, waking to the sun rising over the Loughor estuary was a real bonus to the spectacular scenery surrounding the camp site. After years of visiting Loughor, I was shocked by not knowing the site was so inviting.

The site is spotless, with regular rubbish collection and not a bit of litter anywhere to be seen. Dogs are very welcome throughout and with the millennium cycle path (over 21km of flat riding) on the doorstep, the kids loved the ability to wonder freely, pondskimming on the river, fishing, crabbing and especially enjoying the 'mud fight' sessions on the shoreline. As well as the outdoor activities, the playground is excellent, with only one access in (over a walkway-in view of the club house) a real peace of mind knowing that safety is something the park owners have considered by its design.

The on site shop stocks the basics, with additional literature of surrounding days out (its Wales, we'd packed the raincoats, but were blessed with a week of 20 degree sunshine throughout)in case of rain/ bad weather.

The toilet/shower block is by key entry (£10 deposit on entry) and were immaculate at every time through the day.

Staff are very friendly and helpful, recommending local attractions nearby. There is a new shopping complex open near, with a large Supermarket chain (more reason to shop at.)for all the supplies needed.

The lower rally field has access to the river with a slip way and watching the jet ski's on an evening had the kids entertained, if only to watch them fall off.

All in all a real hidden gem of a campsite and now we are aware of it, will definitely be revisiting.

Just spent one night at this site, site has a main caravan field, a small tent field and a rally field. They keep a large piece of grass for sports/ games etc.

We were on the rally field as we wanted electric hook, nice views and right on the cycle path. Main caravan pitches looked full, for the weekend, they only allow eco groundsheet, didn't see this on website but said I would be okay with my non breathable ground sheet for a night.

Toilet block modern and clean, key system a little annoying when there are 4 of you, have to make sure nobody else wants the loo while you have a shower!

Play area looks quite new and there is bridge over the road from the on site pub so no nasty accidents, didn't go in swimming pool or soft play area but they looked clean, we ate in the bar, would advise to book a table as it was very busy. Meals decent size, normal pub grub but kids menu basic sausage/ burger and chip type.
