Friendly welcome from the owner who explained all about facilities. Old shower is 50p for x minutes of hot water and new shower £1 for unlimited time! You need a key for the latter.
Cannot agree with a previous review which said pitches are spacious. In some places there is less than 2m between units. This gives the impression of being crammed in like sardines.
Dishwashing facilities are good and, like everywhere, scrupulously clean.
No TV signal although owners have supplied a booster aerial system. Take your co-axial with you.

The owners were really friendly and helpful, but in my view the facilities are in urgent need of an upgrade. If you have a caravan or large motorhome expect to use your own bathroom. If you don't be ready for a trip back into the bad old days of cold shabby washrooms and toilets. They are clean, but not up to contemporary standards, nor the standard of other sites on other Hebridean islands. I would also VERY strongly advise against wasting money on the highland wifi. At the company's admission it is paltry. I wasted £5 on a pathetic connection which dropped out all the time. When I complained to Highland wifi I was told that I didn't know what I was doing and they never give refunds.

Like I am sure many do, I use this site as my main means of researching campsites prior to making a booking.
As such I feel that it is really important that having found a campsite to be in need of improvement I post an authentic review.
We really really didn't feel this campsite was up to scratch. Firstly, location. It has the feel of a run down small holding and that despite initial investment, it has been left to deteriorate.
The common room/ camp kitchen was falling apart, looking in need of decoration, and relied on campers to maintain and clean it. Clearly this doesn't work, the floor is filthy.
The prices charged were excessive. £23 for a grass pitch and then a further £1 to use a shower is in my view extortionate.
There is an alternative, pay 50 pence to use showers which are cold, dirty and housed in a building which I cannot see would pass any star rating by a tourist board.
The pitches are boggy, lacking drainage and exposed.
Sorry we won't be going back and frankly I cannot see how any body else would.

I arrived late after misjudging the distances on Lewis after driving up the west coast and returning from the Butt of Lewis (which is a wonderful place to visit). Both local pubs stop serving food at 20. 30 so the proprietress (such a lovely lady) took pity on me and gave me some food to eat.
The site was full but as I was only staying one night I shared a pitch with other 2 man tents - the pitches were large. The facilities was clean and well maintained and the campers room was an added bonus and it allowed for cooking and eating in doors which made a pleasant change.
Everyone was friendly and welcoming and it was a very pleasant stay.

We were booked into here for the one night en-route to N. Uist. It is all hardstanding. The owner greeted us and explained about the sites facilities and any extra costs- the original showers cost 50p for six minutes or alternatively one could opt for the new block where one paid £1 and was given a key which allowed for an unlimited time in the shower. The facilities were scrupulously clean & there was a small comfortable room in which to socialise with other guests (no dogs) if the fancy took. We were surprised by the overall bleakness and seemingly unremitting peat bog of Lewis but the people were very friendly and sociable, in fact when I took a wrong turn and had to ask at a croft if I could turn my 'van around in the yard the owner after introducing himself enquired where were from, it then transpired that he was the cousin of the minister of our local church. He even invited us to stay the night! There is a bay with good sand nearby, access is by a narrow track suitable only for smaller vehicles so we parked at the end and walked the short distance down with the dogs, they loved the beach for running about on. A nice simple site that we would use again for a stopover but probably not for any longer.

Stayed for 3 nights, the owners were really helpful and friendly and gave us the best pitch (probably as we had booked well in advance). Yes, it does look like a car park, but at least you won't get stuck if it rains. Handy having the water tap next to every pitch.
The toilet/shower facilities are adequate, you have to pay 50p for a shower, but when you take into consideration how reasonable the price of the pitches are, then this is not a problem.

This site is ideal for touring Lewis and Harris, nowhere is too far away. Facilities are good, £1 for unlimited hot shower or 50p for other shower (ladies). Good kitchen facilities, wash up area, cooker, fridge and microwave plus tables and chairs for eating or activities like board games, cards etc. Owners could not be more friendly and helpful. We have stayed here for many years and would not go anywhere else. Also Water and Elsan point too

As a regular visitor to Eilean Fraoich campsite at Shawbost in Lewis, I know that the owners pride themselves on the friendliness and cleanliness of the site. They also make every effort to ensure that their visitors have an enjoyable stay.
Unfortunately there are some people that you just can't please, and instead of bringing any grievances to the attention of the owners, who I'm sure would make every effort to address the problem, prefer to turn themselves into 'travelling trolls' on internet sites.
I myself have always found it an enjoyable and relaxing place to stay, and would highly recommend it, so have many others as shown by the favourable comments in the site visitors book

We stayed on this site for four nights on our tour of Scotland. I was a bit unsure when we arrived, as per the rest of Lewis it feels very remote. The site owners made us very welcome. We were on the grass behind the toilet block and found it to be ok. The toilet block is a bit dated and really needs a refurbish. We used our own shower ect so it really didn't mater too much. It seems that you are in the middle of no were but once you start to look around the area there are lots of things to do and see. We met quite a few people that used the site regularly so its must have been ok for them. As we left the owners came and said goodbye.

Found the website for this site very misleading. It has no sea views whatsoever and the camping pitches are not shown. We booked for five nights and stayed for two before moving on. Unfortunately this site just wasn't for us. The facilities are in need of modernisation, really outdated, but to be fair, clean. The cost of the showers is 50p for metered - not long enough, and £1 for unlimited, but you have to go to the owners house to get a key, not my idea of a relaxing holiday. Midges are a real problem in the camping area, my husband and I had lots and lots of bites. No amenities within walking distance here, though that in itself is not a problem bearing in mind where in the world you are. Unable to connect to the advertised wifi and when I mentioned it I was told 'you're on holiday, forget the internet!' Ok in an ideal world, but like a lot of parents of teenagers, that's how we keep in touch! I think this site is probably ok for an overnight stay in a motor home but I wouldn't recommend it for camping.
