Well kept clean site. Hard standings plus some grass pitches (the one we were on was getting a bit soggy after recent rain).
Two facilities blocks. The toilets/showers in the one we used were a bit cramped (the other is better).
Supposedly has wifi but we were unable to get a connection.
No real dog walks from the site, but a nice beach is a couple of minutes drive away.
A pub and an excellent (but not that expensive) takeaway are a 5 minute drive.
Some midges around on the pitch we had.

Handy for ferry at Stornaway - about a 30 minute drive but not a lot of other sites in the area. Did feel a bit like a car park, albeit in a very rural location.
Unlike the photo on the website, you can't see the sea, which is in fact some distance away, across the road and a number of fields.
Site was very peaceful and quiet during our stay.
Facilities clean and functional although not as modern as others on the islands.

We arrived here for 2 nights at the end of our Hebridean tour, we have stayed at bolnabodich in barra, Kilbride South Uist and balranald in north uist, horgabost in Harris and Uig sands in Lewis
The location of the last 4 sites was exceptional so perhaps that is affecting my opinion of this site, as stated by other reviewers, this is a car park with hook up around the edge
The owner is very friendly and the facilities are clean and there is a campers kitchen with microwave, however our neighbours were 4ft away from us on either side and there were about 17 units on this site, so it felt very cramped with no space actually on a pitch,
There is football pitch next door for children's play, but as the site is mostly car park it's unsuitable as a family lamp spot
It's £18 Pn for our campervan, the showers are extra - 50 p for a metre done and then £1. 00 for an unmetered one,
The location is good for touring the area but not great for activities without taking your van off the site Shawbost has no shop within 5 miles, though the site sells milk, there is a pub within 3 miles with a reasonable menu.
There is a lovely beach within a mile or so and the school is adjacent with a swimming pool. There are only 2 sites in north Lewis and this one is better than laxdale,

Stayed recently for 4 nights and have to say we were made very welcome by the owner. Arrived just before gale force winds forecast for later that night. The owner was very helpful in suggesting where we could pitch that may offer some shelter from the winds.
Agree with a previous review that the site does seem like you are on a car park but there are so few sites available to choose from on Lewis. It is however in a good location for visiting all the attractions on the island. Good beach nearby - turn right onto main road then first left, then small track off to the left takes you directly to beach.
Found the facilities were OK.
Small dog walk on site which was fine for early morning and late at night.
During our stay there were only about 4 units on site so were quite spread out. Would imagine if busy the units would be very close together. Fresh water taps on the pitches and a drain for grey water close by. Didn't get a TV signal but had signed up for Highland Wi-Fi which was available on-site.
Would stay again if on Lewis.
The gale force winds did arrive exactly as predicted at midnight with a vengeance! Didn't spoil our time there though, went out every day. The highlight was a trip to Callanish - the main purpose for our trip. This was on our 40th Wedding Anniversary.

This was our first stop after leaving the ferry at Stornaway. A half hour (18 miles) really scenic drive to get here. It is past the little fire station on the left behind the school. HS for MH and field for campers. Pitches are close-ish but as this is the type of site you which I would expect is mostly used for just a few nights by MH's so not really a problem. 10 & 11 Downing Street is the loo block, clean and tidy and 50p for a shower. There was another building which housed a table and chairs along with microwave, toaster, fridge and two burner stove for use by campers. There was a washing machine but did not used it. EHU and water at each pitch on HS. Very friendly husband and wife who lived on site. £18 a night for 2 adults and MH.

We moved here from Laxdale and were glad we did. Really friendly owners, very helpful. We were able to settle in before there was any question of handing over money. Downing Street offers really good facilities with £1 to use the shower each day, which we were happy to pay over the basic pitch cost.
The pitches are on hardstanding or grass and around the owners house, they are not spaced as Caravan Club would do so, but adequately enough.
The laundry cost is quite high, BUT when we said we wanted a couple of loads and drying thereof, the owner asked for much less than the advertised price.
Superb location for exploring the main sites of the island. Def one to go back to next time we visit.

We stayed here for one night mid holiday. It is simply a base, there is nothing to make you want to stay for longer really. It is basically a large carpark next to owners house with good toilet and shower facilities (for an extra charge) and laundry facilities (expensive and with a last load at 7pm). The owner was kind enough to let us on without a booking, but then gave us lots of rules which we hadn't encountered in other sites. I did not feel comfortable here and we would not return. It is handy for Callanish and other tourist sites but lacked great views and freedom. Vans are parked very close to each other.

The best thing about this site is its location - a great base for touring Lewis. All the major sites - Callanish, Carloway the Black House etc. Are within really easy reach. Stornoway is also easy to get to for any essentials you might need.
Site is split into several areas around owners house. There is a grassy area to one side which had a mixture of caravans/tents, a larger continuous hardstanding area for motorhomes and a 'terraced' grass area for tents. Other posters have commented that units are pitched very close together. We would agree with this, but if as we were you are using the site as a touring base rather than a place to spend time, it is not a problem and its convenient location more than makes up for this.
Showers and toilets were very clean - prices were 40p for 4 mins in the mens, 50p for 5 mins in the ladies and a £1 for unlimited in the other block - we'd recommend the latter if you have small kids to wash. Had all the other facilities we needed including CDP, Motorhome service point and EHUs.
We found the owner very friendly and she explained everything on arrival. She even took the towels we'd left out in for us when we were away for the day and it started to rain heavily - excellent customer service!
Good location for a site and would recommend.

Arrived on site following an amazing drive from the north uist ferry. Scenery spectacular on a sunny day. Was warmly welcomed by the owner, shown where to pitch, where toilets, showers were and kitchen dining area were, made full use of kitchen/dining room common sense rule clean up after use. Met the other owner later on very welcoming, cheerful asking me if everything was ok. Lovely site great touring location. Shops, pub etc as stated before. Campers with children made good use of adjacent playing fields, I will return but for longer, many thanks

Spent 3 nights here. Owners are lovely people and very welcoming. Showers are very good. Downing street toilets better than the original ones. All very clean though. Good centre to tour from. Lovely countryside views and short drive to local beach. Follow sign for rainbow tearoom then take the right turn indicating to shore. There is a breakwater/causeway across the bay which gives you a lovely walk with sea on one side and a lochan on the other. Also well worth a trip north to Port of Ness and also the Butt of Lewis. Visit one of the Blackhouses - really interesting seeing how people used to live. We also took a trip south and followed road to Great Bernera (not to be confused with Berneray!)across the bridge (another bridge across the Atlantic??) Good picnic area by the bridge and beautiful scenery. Also this site is a lot closer to Stornoway than we had thought - I think about 18 miles so great if you are taking ferry from Stornoway to Ullapool.
