We were looking for a site around north/east yorkshire to have a one night stay to test our new tent. We found South Lea via this site and as a dog friendly site it sounded very suitable.
The site is located just off the A1079 and is very easy to find. There are bus stops just outside the entrance (so presumably accessible for those without cars, or for those in a camper van wanting to explore?). Inside the entrance there is a reception hut and an automatic barrier at the gate. After checking in at the reception (there is an intercom there if no one is around) you will be given a card to activate the barrier which then allows you to freely come and go, and gives some security.
There is a central toilet/shower block that also has a sluice point, washing-up sinks, refuse and recycling area. The toilet/shower area is fully tiled, clean, and the showers have a lockable door plus internal shower curtain (thus ensuring anything you leave on the peg/stool/floor doesn't get drenched). The washing-up area is a great idea (especially if in a tent as we were), two stainless steel sink + draining board fixtures with a plastic plate/cutlery drainer with each. There is also a couple of standpipes, but Louise pointed out that these and the sinks were not recommended as drinking water (as they took water from a storage tank) - the drinking water stand pipes are available around the site and we were given a map showing their location.
The camp site has a number of pitches, some on hardcore, all have EHU. We didn't require electric and as there were no children currently staying, Louise suggested we could pitch on the edge of the playground as it was closer to the toilet block. All the pitches are on a flat area and the grass is kept in decent condition (we saw a sit-upon mowing as we left).
Other facilities include a children's play area and a dog walking area. The latter looks like an empty camping section where the grass has been allowed to grow and paths mowed in the grass. It is a nice addition and there are several dog-bins around. On the subject of doggy facilities, there is a dog shower (standpipe with shower hose) near the toilet block, which is a novel idea in case one's best friend gets a bit muddy or rolls around in something they shouldn't.
The owners are very friendly and we would recommend the site to anyone. The price is reasonable too (cost us £12 for the night). Some reviewers have mentioned the noise from the A-road, though as we live in an inner city we didn't find it any different to home.

We stayed here for our first weekend caravanning, we had just bought our Caravan and wanted to test things out and have a go at setting the van up as the site is not far from home we thought we would give it a try. The first dealing we had after booking the site was a call to my father in law who was meeting us at the site from Louise the owner, it was to say that with the recent weather we had that there was a slight problem with standing water on the field. She said as we were local and new to caravanning we are more than welcome to view the site and decide if we want to stay or not.
As it happens it was not as bad as we expected and got set up with no problems at all, Louise even offered to help if we needed it and even put the van on the pitch with their own 4x4 if required. This good service and helpfulness continued throughout our stay
The site was well maintained and very clean I can recommend it to anyone who would like a quiet get away at a nice friendly site.
If I can say anything slightly negative is that it would benefit from a small shop on site although not essential as Pocklington is not far away. The play area could do with something for younger children (ours is 18 months) as the swings and play area was for older children, but other than that great site and great owners.

When enquiring about this site Louise pointed out that as there was no laundrette, she offered to do our washing for us. She refused payment and suggested I made a donation via the charity box. So, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People benefited. This trusting helpfulness was characteristic of the our stay at South Lea. If you wanted Louise, then just ring the intercom at the front of reception, and she'd appear either on her bike of with gardening tools.
We were there during the heat of May! Walks by the delightful Pocklington Canal were shady and cool. Burnby Gardens in Pocklington are worth a visit, water lilys and an interesting rockery.
We used the site as a base for walking the Yorkshire Wolds, never seen so many cowslips and so few people. The site is very handy for the new Park and Ride into York, dogs are carried free. We noticed a dedicated parking area for motor homes with no height barrier. We took advantage of mid-week free day offer, so it was very good value. A very people and dog friendly site.

We have just spent Easter at South Lea, and what a great site it is when we arrived we were met by Louise the owner of the site she showed us our pitch and gave use the choice of three, she also offered us leaflets with information about ware to visit and the best places to eat.
The site is quite large and partitioned off into different areas with a large play area fore children, there is a large dog walk for pets with a dog shower should your dog roll in any mud or get dirty,
The toilet block was very clean no matter what time of day you go in and the water for the showers is always very hot and never any queues no matter what time you went in.
Pocklinton is about a mile up the road and has all the shops and supermarkets you may need I can recommend a visit to Stuarts fish & chip shop the best in Yorkshire.
We had a meal at the Yorkway motel just outside the site we had the carvery it was great and good value for your money.
It's not far from York or the East Yorkshire coast with loads of places to visit.

We were looking for campsites around the york area and we stumbled across South Lea Caravan park. We decided we were going to try it. We rang up to book the pitch. A very friendly woman answered and we said we would like to book a hard standing pitch and 3 people or possibly 5. She was fine with that and when we tried to pay by card she said they didn't have the facility and we had to pay by cheque.
When we arrived at the site it was really tidy and clean. We got given a card to get in and out. Once all that was sorted we went into the main reception. It was just a shed. In the reception you could buy eggs and bread, they are obviously very trusting because you put money in an honesty box. Also there was leaflets for local attractions and games to hire such as monopoly.
We set up on the pitch and was able to park the car behind. We explored the campsite and found the toilets. Inside was clean and lovely and warm.
There were 4 toilets and 3 showers. We realised we had packed everything except bread. I went to reception to get directions to a shop. The reception was closed so we went on an adventure and found a sainsburys. It was only about 2 minutes in the car. On the way back we saw a pub. The pub was just 30 seconds in the car. In the Night you couldn't hear the near by road.
The next morning I went for a shower and they were really a trickle. Suddenly the power went. We checked the electrical hookup which was fine. It was the fuse.
York is near and a swimming pool near.
PROS
Well kept Shops near by Quiet Electrical hookup Hardstanding and soft standing pitches Friennly owners Children's Playpark Attractions
CONS

Have just returned from a 3 night stay at this great caravan site. It is less than an hour from home so is great for a quick chill weekend. The owner Louise is very friendly and helpful and the facilities although small are adequate and kept very clean. There are 3 showers and four toilets and washbasins and a hairdryer in the ladies and my husband said it is the same in the gents, and all the usual waste drain and elsan point and recycling bins all together in one area. There is a children's play area away from the pitches. There is a security barrier with a swipe card which carries no deposit (unless you lose it then it is £10).
The Yorkway Motel which is just 300 yards down the road serves good food at good prices (although we needed a torch on returning as there is no street lighting). We drove into Pocklington to the shops, there is a Sainsburys with an Aldi opposite about a mile from the site and Co-op in the town. Pocklington itself is a delightful quaint place with lots of different shops well worth a stroll around also the parking is free as it is also in nearby Stamford Bridge (please take note other tourist places!). York and the designer outlet are 10 minute drive away.
All in all a great site and we shall be returning when we have a free weekend.

Once again Graham and Louise have excelled themselves, this site just gets better and better, you wont find a friendlier couple anywhere.
Always on hand for any problems which I might add there never is any.
Always time to stop and chat never too busy, yet always on the go, planting, cleaning, doing reception
Toilet and showers are always immaculate.
Pitches are large, very well kept and hardstanding
Site is quiet and has children's play area, an electric card barrier makes it safer than a lot of places.
Sainsburys is half a mile away as is the village of pocklington it has all that you will need, there's quite a few nice pubs in the area and the yorkway motel and restaurant is 200 yards away.
To sum up we will be back every year its got to be one of the nicest sites in the country and its all down to the hard work and friendly attitude of the owners

Arrived mid-afternoon to a warm and friendly greeting from Louise the owner. She offered us a selection of pitches for our tent, and having chosen one of the many well-tended and level pitches on offer, excused myself to find the facilities.
An absolute delight, as one who wild camps quite frequently, I appreciate all the more decent facilities where I find them.
Very clean, tastefully decorated, and a hot shower, with plenty of room for clothes to hang, and a stool to sit on for dressing. Went to the motel on the corner for a very reasonably priced but delicious dinner before returning to the site.
There was a combine harvester in the field next to us which was going up and down until nearly midnight, and the noise from the road was pretty relentless for most of the night.
A shame, because a poor night's sleep spoilt what was otherwise a very pleasant experience. In a caravan I'm sure that the noise is not so bad. In a tent; be warned!

My family of 2 adults and 2 children came to this park after hours of searching. The toilets and showers were immaculate. The site owners were VERY friendly and helpful and suggested places we could go to in Pocklington for food etc.
We had a brilliant time but the only downside was the noise from the road, as it basically the main road to Hull.
We wished to stay another night but unfortunately it was bank holiday and it was fully booked.
Would Highly recommend this site but you may need a pair of earplugs!

Just returned from a very short notice booking at this site. We decided to go on the Thursday night and got a call confirming a cancellation first thing Friday morning.
We arrived to a friendly and helpful welcome, as we had forgotten the mallet, and was shown our pitch which was lovely right next to a willow tree. We were also given information where to eat in the area. The site is spotless and well kept, the toilet and shower facilities are immaculate. We took our dog who loved the very large dog walking area.
You can hear the traffic noise from the road, but it would not stop us from visiting again.
