We have just returned from a four night stay at this site. We decided to try South Lea based on the reviews we read and were luckily able to get onto the site despite booking late and liked it the moment we arrived.
Louise greeted us and showed us the various places we could pitch our tent, gave us the welcome leaflet which had the rules of the site and some info on a local gp, vet etc and also suggested some places in pocklington for take out etc, there were also some picnic tables and benches dotted about the park and Louise showed us one that wasn't being used that we could move to our pitch which was fantastic.
The park itself was immaculate, a lot of attention to detail has gone into the set up of it, the block which housed the showers/toilets and washing up area seems very central to the whole of the camp and you are never too far away from a water point.
There is a huge area for children to play in, the actual play equipment was too big for my two toddlers to get full use of but they had a good go and enjoyed just running around between the goal posts anyway.
There is lots to do and see in the surrounding area, we went to Castle Howard (40mins by car) and Bridlington(45mins) which has a lovely stretch of beach and a lovely little shop called beachcomber which had some nice little bits and pieces and would recommend a visit to both if you haven't already been. We luckily had beautiful weather for our stay.
We have no negatives for the site or its owners and are planning a return trip next year.

I have just returned from a 3 day stay at this site and found it to be one of the best I have stayed at.
All pitches are flat and of a good size and very well maintained.
The shower block was always clean and tidy no matter what time you went in.
They have a small play area which was suitable for my childs needs.
The only thing that I think this site needs is possibly a small shop on site where you could get some basics but Poklington is only a 5min drive away.
In the local area there is Poklington which is a lovely little town with everything that you need.
Also worth a visit there is Burnby hall and gardens which has a large lake where your kids will just love to feed the carp which come right up to the waters edge.
All in all can't wait to return.

Best campsite we have stayed at yet. Stopped 3 nights. It was busy but didn't feel busy as there was plenty of room. Pitches very large and well cared for very good lighting and plenty of water points clean free showers and toilets. The nearby small market town of Pocklington was very close with its choice of takeaways, pubs, supermarkets, cinema, swimming etc and with York just a 25 min car journey away. With a trip to the Theakstons Brewery, Masham, made our visit that much better ;-) Owners were really kind and helpful. Will definitely return.
Thanks guys we enjoyed our time at South lea.

The owner understands the importance of customer service who engages in good comms before arrival by email & provides a warm welcome.
You have to press the intercom at reception on arrival, which is well stocked with local info though no bus timetables.
A well maintained park where the grass is a testament to the owner's commitment. The facilities are clean, though 4 loos and 3 showers does mean you have to queue sometimes. But the sinks are sort of private though not fully enclosed.
It is dark though in the toilet block in particular in the showers. Showers are a trickle rather than powerful, but free and hot.
There is a large play area for the kids with nets and playground.
The 2 main cons though of this site are the pitches and proximity to a main busy noisy road.
On arrival you think the pitches are of reasonable size, and if in a tourer caravan probably are. Because the hard standing areas are placed on a grassed field the protocol for pitching is car (grass) caravan (hardstanding) awning (remainder of hardstanding and then grass) So if you are in a campervan like we were you are between an enormous awning from the caravan to your right and then a Ford Transit Van to your left. Not quite the view we wanted, and our pitch area was extremely reduced as a result of our neighbours.
Added to that we were pitched close to the road which is noisy. Walking into Pocklington is only 20 mins, but 10 of those minutes you are walking on the road as there is no path.
Pocklington is lovely can recommend The Cross Keys for meals and Railway Street Fisheries for fish & chips (as good as The Magpie in Whitby) There is a Sainsbury's 15 mins walk from the site (on that road.)
Because of the play area the site is full of kids. I know it's the 6 weeks holiday, but I get the feeling that kids are there most of the time. So they are walking or biking across/through your pitch all the time. Given we had little pitch area as it was this meant for practically zero privacy.
Would we go back? Possibly but only if assured we had a pitch next to a motorhome or unit less intrusive than the caravanners & not near the road.
All in all a great site if you have a touring caravan and kids

Just got back from a lovely week here, could not fault a thing about the site and the people on site were all really friendly, owners were very helpful and the site is a credit to them. Every where is clean and tidy and a pleasure to spend time there. Will def be coming back to stay soon. Lots of great places to visit, Whitby, Scarborough, Beverley, York to name just a few. The railway museum is a must and totally free. Pocklington nice little town too and the fish and chips are a must !

Just arrived home from 4 nights at South Lea. From the minute we drove onto the site we knew we had found our ideal place to stay. Site is lovely and what a fantastically friendly lady Louise is (she printed off cycle routes for us and laminated them as she had seen me and the children leaving the site on our bikes one morning!)
The area is also very good, myself and our 2 boys rode our bikes into Pocklington a couple of times. We also visited the local pub which was a few minutes away on foot. York was a pleasant car ride away as was Monks Cross.
The play area on site is great for children and the toilet block lovely and clean.
We have stayed at a lot of sites over the last few months but we loved it here and will definitely recommend to everyone we know and will certainly be returning very soon.

Just returned from a weekend away at this site. It was the best weekend we have had camping. The site is lovely, well kept, toilets and showers immaculate. Nick and Louise are so helpful - Nick helped us out as our electricity unit failed and he lent us one of his.
He even brought it to us the the pouring rain! Nice children's play area. Pocklington very close for shopping and in a great area for the East Coast. Maybe a small shop selling essentials would be nice. Will definitely go back.

Can only reiterate all goods things said about this site. The care that Louise and Nick pay to their site is credit to them. They really care that you are having a good holiday.
Would summarise our stay into pros & cons:-
PROS - lovely rural location and only 1 mile from Pocklington, secure entry system, toilet block and showers always clean, good size pitches, good family site (10:30 quiet time suited us), play area bril (wee man made some great friends), great distance from major attractions (York, Bridlington etc), good meal out within walking distance (Yorkway Sunday carvery great value for money)
CONS - TV signal quite temperamental (bought a satellite dish in the end), no clothes washing facilities.
Both these cons are very much personal preference and may not bother others. Also would not stop me from giving Louise and Nick a 9.9/10 for our 11 night stay and if ever in the area again would definitely be back.

This was our first outing with our Lunar 524 and from arriving on site to leaving the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We were given a corner pitch with bags of room and space to practice reversing. The toilets and shower facilities are both clean and well kept.
Local Motel Yorkway is a short walk and has a nice beer garden for those hot afternoons.
Pocklington is a short walk but the path ends half way so caution needed when walking. Pocklinton has everything you need from pubs to takeaways and supermarkets.
Booked again for July and will without a doubt be visiting again and again

What a lovely site, it is kept immaculate. The wardens were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Toilets and showers were kept immaculate all the time. Pitches were quite spacious. There was a play area with a football pitch, so we never saw our middle son, he loved it.
There was a pub within a few minutes walk, it was under new management and meals were supposed to be nice, but we never visited the pub so couldn't comment.
Pocklington was only a few minutes by car down the road, with shops, pubs, restaurants and a Sainburys. We were allowed to stay the rest of the day at no extra cost and the site was reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend it and would definitely return.
