Fantastic site! Remote location makes it great for getting away from it all - make sure you bring plenty of supplies as the shop is only open until 6pm. We found a great pitch - plenty of space and well maintained. Great value for money and the facilities are absolutely fine - clean toilets, hot showers and a sink for dishwashing. The site was quiet during our 2 night stay and there are only 2 showers in the female block - this may be a problem during busier periods.
The site is well located for the Cuillin mountains, Talisker distillery and only 20 minute drive to Portree. We will definitely be back!

I visited this campsite for two nights in June while touring Skye. I chose Glenbrittle because I intended to walk in the Cuillin Hills.
I endorse other reviewers' comments about the beauty of the location - the setting is absolutely breathtaking.
Glenbrittle is ideally situated for walking, scrambling or climbing in the Cuillins. There are also some easier low-level walks from the campsite.
I am less enthusiastic about the site itself however.
The site is very remote: this is not necessarily a drawback but the nearest shops are in Portree and Broadford, both nearly an hour away - be sure to come prepared The on-site shop has limited stock and during my stay it had run out of milk - apparently milk is re-supplied only once a week.
Another drawback of the location is that it is very exposed. The Cuillins and other surrounding hills offer little shelter and the valley floor is devoid of trees. What's more, the adjacent foreshore faces out into the sea so wind could be a big problem here - take long tent pegs.
I found the facilities block inadequate for the number of pitches. There was congestion and queuing in the morning and early evening during my stay even though the campsite was far from full.
Although the facilities block was cleaned regularly (and toilet paper replenished) it was nonetheless not particularly clean compared to many sites I've stayed on.
I was not impressed by the dish-washing sinks being located right next to the loos in the same room. I'm not overly fussy but this struck me as potentially unhygienic.
On the plus side, the camping pitches were well laid out, kept closely mown and separated by dividers of tussocky grass - a nice idea. Gravelled tracks made car access to pitches easy and campers can pitch right next to their cars.
Most of the pitches are on a slight slope (although I found a flat spot) and the undulating ground probably aids drainage - as it had been dry for some time before my stay I was unable to assess the site's susceptibility to flooding.
The ground itself is fairly soft and sandy but not unduly so: it takes pegs well.
Several reviewers have highlighted the beach. Personally, I thought it unspectacular and a bit grubby. If you are used to the extensive golden sands of, say, Cornwall or Northumberland, you may be disappointed.
From May to September, midges are a big problem (but this is true of most Scottish campsites) and the insects were the main reason I only spent two nights here. But that is definitely outside the campsite's control.
All in all, I feel that Glenbrittle campsite is adequate but not outstanding. That said, for me the wonderful location and easy access to the Cuillin Hills make up to an extent for the site's deficiencies.

The location is genuinely awesome and if you want a site anywhere near the Glenbrittle side of The Cullin Hills, this is the only place to go.
Mention has been made of the long approach road down the glen but we found this quite delightful and no problems at all.
We received a warm, helpful greeting from the site warden / shop manager and, as it happened, the Commercial Director of the MacLeod Estate based at far away Dunvegan Castle - the owners of much of Skye it seems including this site.
There were indications that the site has recenly undergone some refurbishment and improvement, particularly in the separate motorhome/caravan area.
Our hardstanding motorhome pitch with EHU was fine. It was near the toilet/shower block, was level and almost on the dark sand beach.
The site shop is ideal if you don't want a 7 mile trek. The facilities were unheated and therefore chilly on the mid May day we arrived, and rather basic given the £20 pitch fee (including £6 for the EHU).
The additional £1 charge for our dog was a bit much, as was sharing the showers/toilets with the general public passing by who were asked to place a donation into a loo parked outside the building!
Overall, we fully recommend the site and booking ahead. It would be a long way to go to find the site, which is clearly popular, full.

Possibly the best camp-site in Skye merely on the basis of its location. The site itself is nothing special. We turned up around 7pm so missed the site warden and the essential code for the loos! Quite possibly the worst idea I have seen at a campsite - I understand they want to deter non campers but really the only people who have made the pilgrimage are going to be campers and why would non campers make a mess of the loos anyway?
Rant over, I loved the location and I positioned the van over-looking Loch Brittle and under the watchful eyes of the Cuillin and had a great night's sleep.
I had to queue for the showers which I don't like doing, but good things come to those who wait!

The location really makes this campsite, it has the most amazing backdrop of the Cuillin mountains at the same time as views out to sea. It is a long way back to shops or pubs but you know that before you go and the isolated location makes it feel like you're getting away from it all.
The shop had basic supplies. The toilet & shower block was good and clean although being at one end of the site it could be quite a walk. The pitches were all nicely spaced out. It was very windy, coming down the valley, when we were there but they helpfully warned us of this when we checked in and advised how to pitch the tent and park the car for protection.
There are plenty of great walks to do straight from the site. A lovely walk is one that goes up by the 'fairy pools' which are really pretty, especially if you don't fancy (like me!) trying the Cuillin ridge.
We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Skye.

This is definitely location location location, on the doorstep a lovely sandy beach and the black cuillins and after such a long drive it was nice to have walks and climbs to do without having to drive anywhere.
The site is extremely well maintained and the toilet / wash facilities are cleaned continuously. There is also a handy shop on site which is reasonably priced with fresh and tinned produce.
A site well worth the visit and there is also the chance that you may see a golden eagle or sea eagle passing by. Most certainly a place we are already planning to return too in the near future.

Bit of a drive to get in and out of campsite, 7 mile single track road with plenty of passing areas. Fantastic site! Location is outstanding with private beach. If you want something slightly wild with basic loo's, perfect. Staff very helpful with small shop.
Beware of the wind although sheltered areas are available. This site is slightly different as you have your own separate pitch (longer grass separating pitches, nice touch)
I've been coming to this site for years. Great for climbers, walkers or someone wanting to get away from it all.

The slightly tortuous but spectacular road to the site is repaid by finding one of the most spectacularly situated sites in Scotland.
Though mostly populated by seasoned walkers ready to conquer the many nearby peaks of the Cullins, for less active people, (like me!), there are some lovely low-level walks and, as far as I'm aware, the only wide sandy bay on Skye to wander around (Apparently passenger planes used to use this to land on a-la-Benbecula until 1972!)
Even in all-too-common rainy weather, the pitches remain firm. The staff are very friendly in the quite well-stocked shop and keep the site spotless.
Showers are hot and free, with pitch fees reasonable. In the last couple of years hook-ups have been installed for a small number of vans on some tarmac hard standing - although these are very close together.
My only grumble - wish they would extend their season a bit more!

This site is a fair way out on the South West of the island. The roads down to site are fairly narrow but plenty of passing places so no real problems getting down there -you need to be aware of the passing places and its all fairly common sense then.
On arrival we were surprised at just how many campers were there, a very busy site but spread out over a large area so not at all packed in. Those camping were mainly tents – 1 caravan and 8/10 campervans. The majority of pitching is on grass, however there is a small hardstanding area with 8 ehu which is gated off, however the toilets / showers are in this area so constant people walking through. The toilets had a combination but that didn't work so the doors just banged open and shit 24 hrs – very loud and very noisy. We couldn't find a chemical disposal and other campers advised they didn't think there was one.
Toilets / showers were very old but clean and functional, however there were constant queues and hot water ran out. Washing up inside the toilet areas along with toilets and 4 showers. A small shop on site sold basics including some good meal choices etc. No shops / pubs for at least 8/9 miles so you need to have majority of what you need with you.
The site is right next to the beach. Lovely silver sand and plenty of room for kids playing etc. The site is also at the start of one of the paths up the Cuillin Hills and large numbers of campers on site appeared to be serious walkers and climbers.
Warden advised us only 3 rules on site – no open fires, BBQ's need raising off the ground and no excessive noise.
Considering how many people on site it was very quiet by 9pm in the evening. More geared up to tents or those who enjoy a more wild camping experience with minimal facilities but one of the loveliest beaches with the best views we came across.
We paid £12 for 2 adults plus £5 for ehu.

I arrived at Glenbrittle Campsite at the beginning of April and was so impressed with the campsite, scenery and the first class management of the campsite by Paul and Jacqueline that I stayed until the middle of July. I had 14 fantastic weeks on this excellent campsite.
The campsite is surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Cuillin and is situated on a sandy beach with clear, shallow water ideal for paddling or swimming. Its remote location gives a sense of getting away from the fast moving modern world. If you want a quiet, restful holiday on a not over commercialised campsite then Glenbrittle is ideal.
The campsite has plenty of space for tents and caravans and a separate area with electrical hook up points for campervans/caravans. Glenbrittle is one of the few remaining campsites that are not over commercialised and the tents are not all crowded next to each other so that the site looks like a carpark. At Glenbrittle each tent has its own area and the tents are widely spaced apart.
The campsite managers Paul and Jacqueline are very friendly and helpful and will ensure that you have a great holiday. The toilets and showers are always very clean and hot water is always available. The campsite shop sells milk, groceries etc. And camping essentials. There is also a phone booth next to the shop. A daily Weather Report is posted each day on the noticeboard in the shop for the benefit of climbers. A Quiet Zone rule operates after 11 pm so that after a hard days climbing, walking etc. You are ensured of a good nights sleep.
The campsite is very popular with climbers but if, like myself, your sport is not climbing then many other activities are available. The lowland, coastal and forestry walks are just as spectacular - the walk to the headland with its ancient cairns/graves and dun/fort is very interesting. Other activities include rock scrambling; fishing(river and sea); kayaking; wind surfing; para surfing; mountain biking on the Glenbrittle Forest cycle paths; kite flying on the beach; birdwatching(this year the corncrake gave us its early morning chorus).
Glenbrittle is an excellent campsite that I can highly recommend.
