The Glen Brittle campsite is set in a beautiful setting and has plenty of room at the site. The campsite manager was most helpful with very helpful advice and was very friendly. The showers were most welcome and occasionally a few minutes wait at peak times. The washrooms and toilet area were a nice size. The site is perfectly located for either nice walks below the Cuillin ridge or ascents on to the ridge. The shop was very well stocked with food and very high quality camping equipment. Also a good stock of very effective midgie nets! There were people from many parts of the world and it had a nice friendly atmosphere.

Great location for walking and climbing, especially in the Cuillins. Right by the sea though the slope of the land means it is hard to get a sea view from your tent. Shop is well stocked - no other facilities nearby though. At our visit (late August) water had to be boiled before drinking because of contamination - this seemed to have been the case for several months.

I stayed at this site over 40 yrs ago. Nostalgia trip this time. Just 2 nights.
As weather was ok I got in some great walking with my wee doggie. Climbing out of the question but I got quite high up alongside the stream by the YHA place.
The Brittle site was superb. I was able to park my car next to the tent to keep off the early morning sun and pure convenience. I was next to the beach (a small barbed wire fence actually helped) and all the grounds were kept very tidy. The owners were busy most of the day and were really helpful to me both on arrival and with minor queries about where to go etc.
The toilets I found excellent. This is a campsite not a 5 star hotel. There were no nasty smells and the showers were an added bonus.
The shop was quite well stocked and included lots of those little items you just forget to throw in. I'd brought 3 lots of midge spray so was relaxed about those little pests. But hey, how boring if there were no midges to moan about.
The other campers were a good bunch. Flags of all nations and small/ large groups. As I'd had 2 busy days walking I was ready to sleep really early (10pm) but found no obtrusive noise spoiling it. This is so difficult to predict. But the wasters wouldn't have the energy to get to Glen Brittle anyway.
I can recommend this site to anyone, young or old.£6 in total for me and my dog. Fair dinkum.
And you won't find a more dramatic backdrop anywhere in UK!

Was there the third time and will come again and again. The fantastic landscape and the beach is impressing. Recommended for walkers and climbers in the cuillins. Toilet rural but well maintained - just the shower was too hot this year :-) - The midges are a problem - but not only in Glenbrittle but everywhere in the Scottish Highlands - and in Glenbrittle you normally will have a bit of wind to keep them down.
The shop is quite good and the guard will help you with almost any problem ever.
For walkers: Just round the toilets and over the fence and then up the hill and into the cuillins - spetactular views and lonely place between sky moutains and sea.
See you next year :-)

This site is in a stunning location, next to the beach and at the foot of the cullin mountains. Good value at only £10 per night for us, small shop which is well stocked, and reasonably priced. When we were there, there was a warning on the drinking water as it had to be boiled before drinking and be careful not to swallow the water when showering and brushing teeth etc which was a bit annoying (we fully admit we are fussy campers!) but we just bought bottled water from the shop. Facilities are very basic but were clean enough - no hand soap is provided in the toilets though. The pitches are very well spaced out and are a good size. Overall, a basic sight in a beautiful location but don't stay here if you want to be near shops / civilisation at it is seven miles from the main road. The best piece of advice we can give to anyone staying on this site is buy the midgie head nets from the shop as you will get swarmed! Makes your life much easier and you can enjoy the view in the evening without being eaten!

This is one of the most beautiful locations we have ever stayed. We had been on the rest of the sites on Skye and every one has something unique to offer. Glenbrittle had everything for us. We have 2 dogs and the walking is fantastic. The beach first thing in the morning was magical. Although the toilet block is basic, it is clean. The boys that work in the shop, we found very helpful, the shop itself was well stocked and reasonably priced. They let me use the phone in the shop to phone my elderly mum every day. I cant praise the site enough. And although my hubby gets bitten by the midgies I am one of these very lucky people they ignore. Not sweet enough you see. We shall be returning this year only were going in May. Cant wait.

Amazing site! Truly the most stunning location you could hope for. Facilties are fine (showers)- not five star but the location makes up for this. The campsite shop is really well stocked. There is a phone just up the road outside the youth hostel. You can walk all the way along a great path that goes along the coast- it is a brilliant walk although you have to ford the streams in heavy rain which is a challenge.

This was the first time in over twenty years that my husband and I have camped! So we didn't know what to expect and was a little apprehensive now that we're in our forties. We needn't have worried; the camp was stunningly beautiful, the Cuillin mountains on one side and the spectacular beach with soft grey/silvery sand on the other side. You'd be hard pushed to find a more awesome view and setting. Peaceful, tranquil, with the sound of the sea gently lapping in, so if you want to get away from it all and have space to just think it's perfect, a quiet camp. There are some good spots to fish from at the side of the beach on the rocks, and some nice little rock pooling spots too. And if you're a walker or climber it's the ideal spot, there were many climbers arriving to tackle the Cuillin ridge. We woke up to some of the most amazing dawn's we've ever seen, the colours looked like something from a monet painting, and it's worth getting up at 5/6am to see it. We were lucky enough also to see a moonlit night with the waves quivering on along the sea. It's like medicine for the soul. If you're into photography you'll get some fantastic photos. There's a good shop on site with reasonable opening hours, and the lady who either owns it or served us was just lovely, very friendly and helpful. There's lot of wildlife, birds, little rabbits running around the tents. The showers/toilet/washing facilities are basic but reasonable, but would definitely have benefited from having a cobweb sweep; it might just be a personal thing, but I'm terrified of spiders! Glad to say there were none in the tents or around where we camped. We camped on the spot facing the sea which was lovely, but the only fault was that campers arrived in the night and it did feel as they passed like we were going to be run over, as the road is close, but you could camp further away from the road still be near the beach, or park away from the road on the ample grassy area and you can still see the sea. There is nothing at the camp other than the shop and shower facilities, but we thought that's what made it wonderful, very raw and natural. There are hook ups for caravans and tents if you're lucky to get one. The only problem we encountered was the midges, and what evil little devils they are! we took the advice of someone else on here who'd said camp near the sea for the breeze and they don't bother you, it's true! If there's a breeze they are not around, and we only had one day where they bothered us, but it was horrible, in fact I was chased by a group of them and held ransom in our van, so buy one of those veiled hats and keep your bug nets zipped on your tent, you can't afford to let one of those little suckers get in your tent! Joking apart, they are not around all of the time, don't let it put you off, the camping and site is utterly breathtaking, and depending on the weather the view changes every day, different colours, mist on some days, sparkly sun shimmering seascapes on others, hauntingly rugged and windswept or just simply like a calm pastel painting. You'll find most of what you need at the shop on site, including camping stuff you may have forgot, but if not, then Dunvegan and Portree is not far away. We are going back in September this year we loved it that much and we've bought a bigger and better tent this time as we plan to camp a lot.

I've visited this campsite 3 times and have found it an excellent place to stay. The facilities are good, location is superb (right next to the Cullins & stunning scenery), it is well maintained, and easy to pitch on. There is a small, but well stocked shop on site. Price wise its cheaper than most other campsites on the Island. Best of all its near to a beach, with a nice sea breeze (keeps the midges down!). One disadvantage is the poor mobile reception in this area (warden has a phone for emergency use). Glenbrittle is also somewhat remote, with no shops or pubs nearby, though there is a bus stop by the YHA. But these are minor concerns if you're trying to get some peace and quiet or looking to staying in scenic surroundings. Also, such is the sites popularity, it can occasionally be booked out by large parties, so ring in advance and check to avoid disappointment. In my view, one of the best places to stay on the Island.

What a wonderful campsite totally peaceful. We return here year after year. The views of the Cullin's are awesome. The campsite is spacious, with plenty of level pitches. The shop is well supplied with just about everything you could want. The staff are friendly and helpful. Up to date weather forecasts available daily. Toilets are kept clean, showers are hot. What more could you want. You can lie in your tent looking up at the ridge, listening to the waves hitting the beach and the cuckoos. Yes, it can be very windy, and when it rains it really does rain. Yes, there are midges (many) but they don't like the wind! Not impressed this year to be kicked off the site so that it can be closed to the public and used for a Corporate Event, as we had planned all year for this climbing holiday. Hope it was just a one off! I would recommend this site to anyone wishing to completely get away from civilisation and relax and take advantage of the fantastic walking available straight from the campsite.
