This was our first visit to the isle of Skye and we were not disappointed. The campsite was wonderful plenty of room to pitch your tents without being too close to your neighbours. The views were amazing with the sea and the Cullin hills and Glen Brittle forest behind what more could you ask for. It does get quite windy as you are right on the coast (obviously) but if you have a vehicle with you , you can strategically place it and use it as a wind break just make sure you've got them ropes in tight. Facilities were all you need when you are camping, there are plenty of toilets so you never have to wait and a couple of showers which are free and ample washing up space, we stayed for 3 nights and they were always clean. Campsite shop has everything you will need at a reasonable price so if you run out of bread, milk you don't have to travel 10 + miles to the nearest shop they also have a payphone on site. There is plenty to do without having to take your vehicle from the campsite. You can follow the path behind the toilet block up to the Cullin's or along the moorland to the end of the cliff keeping your eyes open for many different birds that can be seen, even a Cuckoo,up until us visiting Skye we had only heard them never had the chance to see one in the 3 days we were there we saw four,Amazing! Glen Brittle forest is worth a visit its a circular walk of about 9 miles you can park further up the road which you drove down as you entered Glen Brittle, lovely views and much to see and hear with benches that have been placed at viewing spots so you can have your dinner on them. We will be back, Thank you!

Camped here for two nights as part of a walking trip. This site is a great "get away from it all" location with superb access to the Cuillin Hills for walking; as a matter of fact as moderator of a well known walking website, the best location for this range. The toilets and showers are basic, but cleaned often and all you really need as a walker! There is a great little shop with surprisingly good prices on all goods from food through to outdoor gear, this can be handy as the closest major settlement would be over 10 miles away. Our first night was spent in a terrible storm, to the extent I got up around 4am to park the cars on the guys ropes! The following morning the kind lady took pity on us and it was free coffee for the next few hours! The only down side to this site would be it's location. There is no pub or means of getting food at all without a half-hour drive and for family's can see the isolation problematic, but for me I would return many times to this great campsite for walkers.

A great site , excellent shop even with basic camping gear , gas etc. Great for the Cullins , great views , peace and quiet. My only small gripe at this time there is no CDP , but apparantly this is hoped to be installed by next year. Great warden , with good weather forecasts for climbing .

August 2005 Lovely campsite nestling in the foothills of the Cuillans. Toilet block and showers clean and functional. Nice little shop, most necessities and a few luxuries catered for, attended by helpful and friendly staff.Sure, the midgies were prolific so come prepared! Also, I lost my specs on the path between the Mountain Rescue and Coire Lagan by the ravine at Eas Mor, please hand them into the Campsite if you find them - maybe I'll get them next time!
Definitely recommended, Jim from the Isle of Man

August 2004 This campsite is a great get-away-from-it-all place. Apart from the site, you have the majestic cuillins, the very sandy beach, splendid views over to Canna and Rum and not much else! Of course there are flies, but that is what deet is for. Plus, the little beggars only come out at certain times of the day. If you know when, you can avoid them completely, even in high summer.
Reasonably well stocked shop on site, and some of the best walking / scrambling in Britain. I'll be back!

July 1999 Forget all the whinging notes. The camp site is not for you if you don't like the outdoors, you don't like the odd flying bug or you like 5 star treatment. It is raw beauty, has an incredible backdrop, the beach is a bonus and the peace and tranquility is second to none.
Great memories of this place and I'm going back this year midgies or not.
See Kirsty Weatherall's comments above, I've never met her but she's spot on.

Every year since 1972 I am bias against Glen Brittle Campsite. I love it.
I like the views, the wilderness, and the tranquillity. Hot showers, friendly wardens, and no over crowding, on site shop with homemade produce.
Midges can put you off, but they are only out few hrs morning and evening when cloudy, but are worst from end July to end Aug as its the mating season.
It is ideal to go relax and get away from the rat race of cities. (No mobile signal) but on the road to Carbost you can get the signal - so not completely isolated.
All for a measly price of pack of fags.

17/7/2003 We found this campsite to be a swarm of midgies, and large biting flies. We were advised to camp near the beach to avoid the midgies, but found the opposite. The facilities were not well kept, full of dead and living midgies, but showers were free and warm. It was nice to have the beach nearby to cool off when the weather was hot although the beach was slightly littered and was quite stoney in places. Despite this, the views were fantastic, and the location is ideal for climbing the mountains or just chilling out on the beach. I would probably recommend this campsite maybe at a different time of year, preferably not in the middle of summer, but later on in the year or in the spring.

June 2003 We went to 3 sites on this visit and this had the worst facilities (toilets/Showers) by far and it was the most expensive (£4.50 pppn). Yes the position is great for walking and the views are out of this world but compared to Torvaig and Dunvegan this was a bit dissapointing. All the pitches are pretty much flat and quite sheltered but it would take a lot to keep the Atlantic weather off of this site. Good shop on site and very helpfull warden on site too.

June 2003 Very windy. But what a backdrop to this site. The Black Cullens are a site to behold. we were able to walk on the beach of dark sand at 11pm. At least the wind kept the Midgies away. If you wsh to do Munro's you can't camp at a better site.
