We have just returned from 4 nights at Steadings and we were very impressed. The welcome was warm and the setting is beautiful, the owners tell me they have done a lot of landscape work over the winter months and it shows. The site is divided into areas which means you have reasonable privacy, the pitches are huge and allow you set up in whatever direction you like, water points are plentiful and the whole site is neat and tidy. The shower block is very clean and quite modern with large shower cubicles and there are 2 family showers, my wife worried that as there are so many pitches during the summer the facilities could be a bit limited but time will tell. Locally there is the famous Fox Inn where the portions are huge and the food very good and there is a farm shop about a mile away (not open Mondays) Tescos is a 10 minute drive along the A12 towards Woodbridge. The local area is full of lovely areas to visits, Aldeburgh, Southwold, Woodbridge and then there is the very beautiful Constable country. Felixstowe were a pleasant surprise to us, they have improved the promenade enormously over the last few years with work still progressing and Ipswich Marina is well worth a visit with its many cafes and bars as well as some interesting boats.
A visit to this area of Suffolk is a must do for any camper or caravanner and we think Steadings is just about the perfect place to stay in the area.

Stayed for 4 nights on this great campsite seems that the owners have got it just right. The area is nice with plenty of footpaths with 1 straight out the campsite leading directly to the pub, had a meal there first night & would recommend the food. A bit of a longer walk took us down to the mayfly pub which is in a nice setting by the river. Went into felixstowe and discovered it to be really pleasant. The fire pits by each pitch are a great idea as well all in all a great site

Back at Steadings again and this site just gets better and better.
We had 5 families in our group and advanced booking meant we had a fantastic spot overlooking the Newbourn Springs nature reserve. The camps fires burnt brightly every night.
The family shower rooms are a great addition and all the facilities were spotless.
Our day trip to Aldeburgh was great, kite flying on the beach, fish & chips and a fantastic ice cream on the walk back to the car.
Can't wait until the next visit.

Just come back from a three night stay at the end of May, found the campsite to be very peaceful, and being able to hire the fire pit was great fun! The toilets and showers were adequate, although there are only two showers, having said that I did not have to queue! The shop was a bit disappointing, as there was not any milk on the Sunday, and no marshmallows! We bought a map of local footpaths, and spent a couple of days enjoying the local countryside and pubs! Ate at the Fox, which was very nice, as there are always offers on for discounts, and 10% off drinks was useful, as the drinks were very pricey. Took a walk to the Maybush which is down by the river. All in all a lovely break, and we even managed to wear the dog out, with all the walking we did (12 miles in two days). Would definitely recommend, and will be going back at some stage in the future.

Spent a fantastic three nights here after a spur of the moment decision. Only an hour from home but felt a million miles away. Myself, my partner and our two dogs had a great, relaxing weekend. Superbly maintained and shower/toilet block is extremely clean and modern. We bought firewood and the fire pit from
The site and sat outside every night after a BBQ. Excellent footpaths from the site as it backs onto a nature reserve. Less than 10 mins to the Fox pub, discount card for drinks available at the site. Well worth it as the deben valley pub chain are fantastic pubs but the most expensive pint of aspalls we've had. Still well worth it and food great. Sister pub The Maybush also a great location by the river.
All in all we couldn't fault a single thing at this site. Great location near Woodbridge very helpful owners excellent amenities and a friendly, relaxing atmosphere.
Would most definitely stay again and a very reasonable price.

Spent May bank holiday weekend at this site for the first time and was very impressed. We arrived nice and early and were one of the first on site for the weekend. Lovely to get a warm welcome from the site owners who couldn't have been more accommodating. Clearly they like to keep things nice and simple, provide a quality experience and interact with their guests.
The site is well maintained and considering originally it was a piece of wasteland they've quickly reached a high standard. They are also continuing with the development as some additional work is going on at one end of the site.
Shower and toilet facilities spotless and of a high standard and really good idea to stream local radio into them, made the visits more pleasant! Provision of fire pits a great idea and looked to be popular, nice touch that.
Nice walk with our dog down to the local pub, The Fox, where we were able to take the dog in, sit down and relax. Food here excellent and they certainly pull a decent pint of real ale. Sister pub to The Fox is The Maybush about 2 miles away but again a great cross country stroll with the dog followed by quality food and drink overlooking the River Deben and watching the world go by.
So overall a great site in a beautiful part of Suffolk and only a 40 minute drive from home, well done.

The many good reviews on steadings are generally true. It is a professionally run, clean and tidy campsite but be aware of the rules of the site as they are strictly enforced. We arrived back at the gate at 11. 10pm and were told 'you cant come in, barrier closes at 11. Leave your car over there and walk to your tent'. Now had we been requesting someone come out especially for us and open the barrier then I could understand their attitude but as the 3 camp guards were actually standing right by the gate when we arrived I don't quite see what the big deal was for being 10 minutes later than the cut off, and there was no apology or sympathy in the tone of their voice. This was basically the theme of the place all weekend. Some kids kicking a football around no where near caravans, tents, etc were told off. After we finished our BBQ my kids put a few sticks on the BBQ and we were immediately told no campfires. I was told to move my car as it crossed the boundary into the next pitch by about a foot despite that person saying it wasn't a problem for him and so it went on.
Anyway it is not a bad site you just need to read and memorise and abide by the rules.
On a practical note there is only one toilet block and it is near the entrance gate, which is a long way from farest field.
And the kids play area is quite small, two swings and a slide and it only opens from 9am to 8pm (strictly enforced), except when its raining and then it is not open at all.

Management response: Thankyou for your review and recognising we run a professional clean and tidy site. We're sorry that you feel disgruntled by the fact that we do enforce the few key rules that we and the majority of our customers believe are sensible and for the benefit and safety of all our visitors. We aren't a regimented site but we do enforce the points you mention as these are fundamental points that draw people to our site for a safe, peaceful and relaxing break.
As you were fully aware we have a no noise or vehicle movements on site after 2300hrs and the barrier automatically locks down at this time so it wasn't a case of the night warden being awkward when you arrived at the barrier at 2315 and asked to be allowed to drive through.
We are one of the few sites locally that permit and encourage campfires but on the basis that you use our raised off the ground firepits (which are safe and prevent damage to the grass) and you purchase logs from the site. In your case you had a very small flimsy bbq on a few blocks and your children were pulling branches from the hedges and clearly having a campfire and not a bbq !
Our pitches at 12m wide and nearly 20m deep are more than adequate accommodate tent/caravan and car with space to spare and they are clearly marked out. Your neighbours have a right to have the space they have paid for and that's why you were asked to move your vehicle back onto your own pitch.
From past experience we know that children, footballs, caravans & cars don't mix hence why we have nearly two acres specifically for the children with a second play area (open 0900-2300 - even when it rains !) and a large football / games pitch. As such we don't allow ball games in the camping fields. In the case you mention there had been a complaint from another customer and there were two very expensive motorhomes parked only some 20m from where the children were playing football.
We do operate two toilet blocks, the main one being for use by all and then we have a second block with two family wet-rooms and baby changing - specifically aimed at those with younger children so parents can ensure the soap and water comes into contact with the kids at shower time ! |

First time to this site and we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome by the owners from the moment you arrive you are made to feel nothing is a problem and happy to advise. The pitch was great, close to the children's play area which is great whilst you are putting up the tent and thoughtfully closed between the hours of 8pm til 9am.
A good size and good spacing between neighbours ensuring some privacy but still close enough together to socialise. The showers and toilets are clean and spacious, nice touch to have music playing in the toilets. Outdoor play areas for children suitable for both toddlers and older our 4 year loved it. The shop is well stocked not just with food / alcohol but with extras too from toiletries to tents.
The fire pits are also a great add on delivered directly to you with new logs daily.
Knowing the site was secure meant we could allow our child a bit more freedom to roam around.
Overall great site and we can't wait to return.

Just returned from our first peaceful and relaxing weekend on this lovely site.
We were pitched on the bottom field with views over the nature reserve. Facilities were first class and the owners pleasant and helpful.
We had a good walk on Saturday, culminating in lunch and a drink in the October sunshine, outside the Newbourne Fox.
On Sunday we awoke to more pleasant sunshine and after arranging to stay until late afternoon, enjoyed a further walk and brunch at the Whistlestop Cafe in nearby Woodbridge.
We hope to return next season, with friends, and make use of the on site fire-pits.
Minor issue, but it would be helpful to have small shelves in showers for shampoo, etc.

Yet another wonderful week-end at Steadings. Even though it is the end of the season the site is still immaculate, and all the little luxuries are still being provided right down to the super soft toilet roll!
I love the music in the ablutions, it makes your 'visit' a bit more private.
This week-end we decided to walk to the river using the map supplied by the campsite. It is an easy walk and there was an abundance of berries and fruits to be seen on the trees and hedgerows. We bought raspberries from a house gateway and after eating them on our walk used the container to collect juicy blackberries to bring home.
The wi-fi on site seems more reliable than the beginning of the year and I like that you can log in and pay on-line.
This was our third visit and we shall be back again as soon as the season starts next year.
