Just returned from five nights at this excellent and friendly site - this is our fifteenth year of visiting Riverside! And we found a new dog walk!
I wasn't going to write another review but out of interest I thought I'd see what others were saying about the site!
What a shame that there are negative comments about one or two of the facilities - especially the 'new' Cabin toilet block. It's hardly 'outdated', being built around 2006 and re-assembled at Riverside having been purchased from another site.
The staff are almost like family and you have only to ask and any minor issue like a missing plug is dealt with immediately! A good example happened on our second day; the grass pitches were waterlogged and a place was found for us on part of the roadway which was full of puddles! When we drove back to the site that evening, we found all of the puddles had been replaced by tarmac infilling! I was told, 'We couldn't have your wife walking through water to get to the showers!'
We hope that the site continues for many, many years to come and is visited by tolerant campers who acknowledge that no-one controls the weather!

We have been coming to this camp site for approx 14years and as yet fail to find fault.
We visit it some 6/7 times per season for a long weekend.
It is a quiet site and close to everything one could need for a private break.
Never having had an issue with the site or wardens I really can recommend this site for a quiet relaxing holiday, be it a long weekend or longer.
I do like the 'personal' touch as we drive in by the wardens and nothing seems too much trouble for them.
We are going back in a few weeks time.

This is a really good site in terms of location and the facilities were clean and kept clean regularly.
Its well signposted as you enter Hamble and within a few minutes walk down the lane is the Waters Edge Pub and Restaurant which serves very good food.
There is a shop on site which sells ice creams and a few sweets and drinks but not a lot else.
Within about 20 minutes walk and 5 minutes in the car is Hamble where there are some lovely pubs which serve great food, some great looking restaurants - a Thai, Italian and Indian and a Co-Op store which sells everything you would need for a holiday break.
The setting near the water is very nice and there are some lovely views.
There is a large Tesco Supermarket where you can stock up on the essentials also.
The site itself is a mixture of wooden cabins, static caravans and touring pitches and when full up I would imagine there is a queue for the showers as there are four male and four female units. There are some individual toilets and showers which give a little more privacy and room to swing a cat and some smaller units so its horses for courses.
The site is well looked after and we would recommend it to others but its not cheap at in excess of £20 a night and if you have kids there's not a lot to keep them involved and amused for the extra cash paid.

Superficially clean and superficially friendly.
Other campers and caravanners were very friendly.
Site looks pleasant, is well-kept and there is a good-sized flat field and a couple of sloping ones.
Toilets appeared clean. Until the lid was lowered.
Good-sized individual shower rooms but let down by smelly mop buckets. A good idea but the smell was pretty bad at times.
Administration could have been better, as I was told on my penultimate day that I hadn't paid for the final day and 'persuaded' to pay for it again. A couple of hours later (when I called back, having abandoned my plans for the day) the camp confirmed that I had indeed paid in advance and my additional payment was returned. No apology received for ruining my day.
The restaurant at the marina next door has good food, great views and excellent/friendly service.

Yet again we have visited this calm and friendly site on the River Hamble. If anything, the staff get more friendly and more helpful with each visit! We are always made to feel so welcome and like one of their family.
This visit, the Deputy Warden leant me the equipment I required to fit a travelling TV aerial I purchased from a nearby supplier!
The new shower block raises many compliments about its design in that each toilet cubicle is equipped with its own hand basin and drier etc. My wife could not get over the amount of space allocated in the women's shower block - I thought at one point she was moving in permanently!

Lovely clean and tidy site, friendly welcome. The pitch sizes are generous and nicely laid out although quite rocky underground in places but the shop does sell the appropriate tent pegs. There are two toilet/shower blocks - the portable cabin type and the new wooden building.
The portable cabin has two showers (push button type), plenty of toilets and washbasins and is kept spotless at all times. The wooden building houses the very large shower rooms (not push button and variable temperature) which also have a hairdryer and sink – very spacious indeed!
Along with dish washing / laundry facilities all of which were immaculate. We arrived for the August bank holiday weekend when the site was full and never had to queue for either toilet or shower.
The shop on site sells very basics – bacon, milk, eggs etc.
We visited the Waters Edge bar on the marina which serves lovely food and allows dogs in the conservatory and terrace area. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in Hamble.
If, like us you’re taking a dog there is a wooded area next to the site for walking and also a disused airfield only a couple of minutes walk away which is great for letting them run around off lead.
I have rated this site 1 out of 10 for child friendliness as there are no facilities for children.
There is a small Co-op in Hamble (within walking distance) and a Tesco Extra approx. 10-15 minutes drive.
Beautiful area with plenty to see and do – recommend a visit to Portsmouth!

We have used Riverside since our daughter first attended Southampton University in 1997. We have always been truly satisfied with all aspects of both the site and the staff. The recent improvements are excellent and I have to say that it is with regret that we read a negative review of this site - obviously written by a very picky camper looking for the Ritz!
The new (second-hand) toilet/shower and washing block is excellent and this year's addition of a new 'cabin' providing toilet and shower facilities on the Touring Field is super!
We visited the nearby Marina public dining facility and found it to be (still) of the highest standard. Hopefully Judith and Aubrey and their wonderful assistants will be there for many years to come - they are like family now!

We loved this site. The staff were friendly and helpful but suggested we eat at the marina next door where I ordered tomato soup and got a plate of tinned chopped tomatoes! The view of the marina was great though.
We were opposite the portable cabin toilets/showers, which were spotless at all times. People seemed to use the other block and I wondered why before I had a shower. The shower only had a curtain and a place to hang clothes outside of the cubical.
I am glad it wasn't very busy and I had the block to myself. Then I had a shower and the water nearly boiled me alive and therefore it was the quickest shower I've ever had in my life because there was no control to make it cooler.
Two women used the toilets while I was there and probably laughed after they left when they only heard me huffing and puffing (whilst trying not to scream loudly) from the shower as I had no choice but to stay and rinse the soap off with 20 second blasts of too-hot water! Only have a shower if you like it very hot.
This was the most expensive site we stayed at during our week in Hampshire and we will go back again and use the older shower block next time we are around this area. It was worth it just to wander around the marina in the evening and watch the boats and wildlife there.

My husband and I have been visiting this campsite for the past few years at least a couple of times a season and I have to say it’s probably our favourite places to stay. We are very lucky as we only live about an hour away and so will often stay here and commute to work.
The staff are always friendly, polite and will go out of their way for you. I always like to stay on the same pitch and they always sort it out for me. It is set in a lovely peaceful setting right next to a marina.
In previous years the toilet and shower facilities were quite small, they were in a porta cabin but I could never fault their cleanliness and as this is something very important to me, explains why we return here so much. When we arrived at the beginning of June, I was excited to see that a new shower / toilet block had been installed. These new facilities are fabulous. Each toilet and shower has its own separate door but the shower 'rooms' are huge. There is plenty of room to put your dry clothes, there is an individual sink and a hairdryer supplied in each one, they are huge! I have found this a big improvement to what I thought was already a fab site!
We have introduced lots of friends to this site, all of whom have returned and are also very impressed. We will carry on visiting here numerous times a year, due to the warm welcome we always receive and the cleanliness and beautiful setting of the site

We were a bit disappointed with the standard of the loos & showers at this site. We were pitched near the portacabin block, which was pretty grim, so we used the main block in the top field which was better but rather dated and a bit grubby.
