Whilst the location is lovely, the camp site is not. If you are used to the standards of the caravan club then this site is definitely not for you.
The good - The site wardens are very friendly.
The bad - the showers are very small, with a communal changing room.
The grass needed cutting, in some places it was a foot tall. Other than the reception area, the whole site looks shabby.
We will not be returning.

Small family group of five units visited over bank holiday. Very nice site, with friendly welcome. Pitches a little small compared to some sites we have visited, but adequate. The two shower blocks were clean and tidy, with four showers per sex overall. Only one washing up sink, but water very hot; could do with one or two more. Shop very basic - Tesco five mins drive. Woken by dustmen and the boat lift in the Mercury yard at 6.00am two mornings running, but apart from that the site is very nice, especially if you like boats. There is a lovely dog walk along the river, and you can walk into the town of Hamble, which has several very nice pubs serving good food (try R-Bar). The Marina bar and restaurant is ok but filled, obviously, with very nautical types. Food a little sad, but it was bank holiday Monday evening. Overall very pleasant, with lots to do in the area. We will return.

We have now used this site for ten years and I am pleased to state that the site, facilities and staff are as good as ever. Judith and Aubrey will look after you like they would their own family. An excellent, quiet, small site - still highly recommended!

A very pleasant site, with great views and access to Mercury Marina at the Hamble. Only a short walk to the town centre (about 3/4 mile) - some lovely houses on route! The facilities aren't great but adequate, toilets are clean but a little dated. No shop to speak of, just basics but no newspapers! Nothing for kids to do but grass is nice so good for ball games etc. The pitches are a good size and although a small site it doesn't feel cramped. We have been a couple of times, once in low season and once over Easter, and although it was full, the facilities weren't stretched. The staff running the site were very friendly and helpful.

This was a second time visit (first was 8 years ago). They now have two toilet blocks, however they could do with a good steam clean. We had a good time, but we were out in the day. Everyone was friendly especially when our six year old is having tantrum. They do need a second utility block for use when it is busy. Otherwise very pleasant

Pleasant campsite with some good facilities. Ground was extremely rocky [re-claimed land], would recommend taking some rock pins to try and combat. We also had a pitch in a windy area which made cooking on the stove interesting. Facilities were plentiful and clean. Hamble is a 20 minute walk away and is lovely. Six or Seven pubs within walking distance of each other. Great fun wandering around the yachts and the harbour.

This was the first time we have been camping (to be honest I think it showed), the Riverside camp site was ideal as a first outing. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the showers were nice and warm and there cleanliness could not be questioned. Hamble village is just a short walk down the road and has some lovely pub / restaurants. My only complaint would be the lack of a play park for the children, however to some this may be a bonus! All in all for our first time out a very nice welcoming site that will defiantly be getting more visits from ourselves.

August 2005 We spent two days on this site and were very underwhelmed. From the reviews we had read we were expecting a lovely site but firstly our pitch was very small and vey stony, we really struggled to get the tent pegs in. Secondly the toilets were just not good enough. It was a busy weekend and the queues for the showers were awful. On the plus side the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.

May 2005 We are regular visitors to this quiet and pleasantly appointed site which sits beside one of the area's largest marinas and the river. Despite a fairly regular turnaround, the staff are very helpful and welcoming - always ready to advise on local events and landmarks. The local village of Hamble-le-rice is some 15 minutes walk from the site and provides sufficient shopping and varied refreshments for campers. The locality is good for level walking, especially along the river and local waterfronts. Highly recommended!

March 2005 We visited this site at the end of March 05 and would definitely recommend it. The wardens were extemely friendly and helpful giving us a very warm welcome on arrival. We chose this site as it was the only one we could find with showering facilites within 3 or 4 miles of Southampton. The showers blocks were older style but cosy and extremely clean at all times. If you love a really powerful, hot shower you'll love it here! Temperature and flow is controlled by user and shower head can be hand-held.
The site is adjacent to the Marina but the views of the boats from pitches are restricted to the dry dock area although this in itself is still quite interesting and imposing to look at. However, go through a gate at the back of the site and you immediately have wonderful open views of the marina.
A pleasant path awaits you which leads you alongside the edge of the marina where you can enjoy lovely open views as you walk alongside it looking down over it. It seems to meander along almost indefintely following the interesting curves of the marina. Ideal for a dog walk. The gorgeous village of Hamble is only a couple of miles away with a lovely parking area directly overlooking the Marina and the Solent way footpath. Sit and watch the walkers and the yachts go by. A great place to come with a motorhome. 50p for 2 hours or a couple of pounds for the day.
Slightly restricted access so only suitable for campervan width sized vehicles. No height restriction though.
