This is camping as it was, Pick your own spot set up and your good to go brilliant pub lovely guest beers and good food, nobody bothers you from the management, I was in my MoHo so had own sans' etc, but some people had a moan about the washing and showering not being up to standard, some of our party said the water temp' was very variable but it's in a great location very friendly people although they are leaving soon as the brewery has upped the rent so they are off, hope it will come out of the change of management unscathed, the site is open to the main road via the pub garden hence child friendly only 5-10

First the positives, the site is in a lovely location, near Bideford with lovely walks by the river, also the Cottage of Content was a great quirky little pub with very helpful and friendly staff, however, I feel the site is very neglected, long grass throughout the site, which, when wet, soaked through clothing, toilet area needed cleaning, dish washing facilities had no hot water, and the cassette toilet disposal point had no water nearby with which to sluice out, also dogs were allowed off lead to run about and this caused problems to other dog owners who kept their dogs on the lead, I do feel, with a little loving care and attention to the basics, this could be a brilliant little site to which I would certainly return.

Used this site for a 3 day short break. Liked the idea of it being near a pub - which was tiny, quaint and lovely.
Very basic field for the pitches with basic shower/toilet cubicles (not brilliantly cleaned) and no wash up areas but water on each electric hookup.
It was enough for our needs but we felt the owners could do with giving the area a bit of tlc and a makeover; tidying up the back area - looking at rubbish over flowing from skips isn't pleasant, as well as re-surfacing the carpark.

Just spent a few days over the Easter holidays here so the site was busy. As said in previous reviews its a very laid back site backing on to fields and the river Avon with Bidford only a few minutes walk over the fields. A very dog friendly site even in the pub. Everyone on site was very friendly and helpful. The two toilet and showers were in consent use and did get a bit muddy my only suggestion would be to leave a bucket and mop in each so you can clean the floor, the showers were hot but it would be a bit chilly in there in cooler weather as no heating. The food in the pub was great, traditional pub grub and cooked well at a reasonable cost. They will definitely be seeing us again.

What a find.
Backing on to open countryside and walks by the quiet river Avon this site sits next to the pub.
Really really friendly manager and all the staff, inc the early morning cleaner that gave us advise on places to see.
Good food at sensible prices. Campsite is really a huge field but with loos, showers etc at one corner.
I had a blissful stay and highly recommend you try it. Definitely one to remember and return to.

A quirky, friendly and very relaxed little campsite, in a small field at the back of a 17th century pub. What makes this place special are the owners and staff. Very laid back people, and incredibly helpful. I don't think the pub was open at 8. 30am on a Sunday but the Landlord cheerfully made us coffee anyway when our gas canister died. It was rather fab to spend an evening in the lively pub on Saturday night and totter to tent a 1 min walk.
Bidford is a pleasant ten minute walk along the river and has some good places to eat and drink by the water as well as a small shop for buying supplies.
Would we go again? Absolutely

What a brilliant little campsite! For the last five years a group of about a dozen friends have gone on a camping trip around the Midlands area. This year we visited Stratford and I found the Cottage Of Content for us all to stay at. It's ideal for Stratford as Bidford village is 10 minutes walk away and there's a bus every half hour into Stratford.
The Cottage itself is a cracking little pub, the landlord and his staff were all super friendly when we arrived and very helpful in providing info about the area. We all had a meal on the Friday evening and on the Sunday lunch before departing for home and the food was excellent. They had two real ales on at the bar too. Look out for the low beams though - gives the place a traditional look but they don't half hurt when you bang your head on them, as I found out!
The site itself is behind the pub with hook-ups and water taps all round the outside edge. It got pretty busy the weekend we were there but not overcrowded. The facilities are a little basic and share the main toilets as the pub toilets too, but they were good enough really.
We all loved Stratford and Bidford as places to visit and one weekend just wasn't long enough! I'd definitely like to visit the area again sometime and would recommend the Cottage for their beer and food as well as their campsite.

Fab Site ! This was our first outing as Motorhome virgins and found this to be exactly what we needed to 'Test' everything. Shower and toilet block small but clean and oodles of hot water. Hook up and water on each pitch and the Pub was spot on with service and value for money, offering meal deals every night. The surrounding villages and area were stunning and fantastic for walking and the Dog loved the launch pads sometimes known as Angling posts !

Lovely small basic site with toilets and shower and water tape and electric hook ups next to each units around the out side of the field. Dogs and awnings was all in with the prices. Meals in the pub was spot on staff and locals was very friendly and made us feel very welcome there was also good entertainment all weekend. Lots of nice places to visit too. We really enjoyed our weekend stay and hopefully we will return soon.

The camping field is behind the pub and you are allocated a pitch on arrival - these are not huge but ours was adequate for a tent and car. The pitches are set out around the field so, whilst you are fairly close to your neighbours, there is plenty of space in front of your pitch. The pitches were level and the grass was well mowed.
The site was fairly busy when we were there and there was some noise from the pub during the evening (which continued later than we had expected but it was Friday so perhaps it was a later than usual night).
There are two unisex shower and loo rooms plus all-night access to the outside pub loos (although there is no light to these after hours).
The shower cubicles are fairly new and were clean with lots of hot water, a bench, mirror and plenty of hanging space (but no socket for a hairdryer). We got up early and so did not have to wait to use them.
The washing-up facilities were awful - a sink out in the open (which was full of dead flies) with a hosepipe connected to cold water.
Service in the pub was friendly and the food was fairly average pub grub at reasonable prices. It was very busy and the number of people in a small space with very low ceilings meant the noise-level was too much for us.
This is the type of site I would use again for a stopover but not a longer stay due to the limited facilities.
