This is an excellent campsite and would definitely recommend it. Lots of space and the campfires in the far field (West) are spaced well apart from each other. The views in the valley are lovely.
Excellent shower block. We used the one down in the far field. We stayed over the midsummer weekend and there was lots of hot water and ample facilities for everyone. The site didn't seem crowded.
Field was flat and very easy to pitch. We got a spot next to the stream and on our last day saw a baby Heron fishing just next to our tent. It wasn't frightened of us at all.
My only quibble was that there was a group nearby who were staying for the midsummer and decided to stay up all night and watch the sunrise and were being quite noisy and I was disappointed that despite saying they run a quiet site after 11pm there didn't seem to be any evidence of anyone coming to check and stop the noisy people. I took earplugs though so wasn't too much of an issue.
Excellent site with great facilities and amazing location though take some insect repellent because if you are pitched next to the stream there may be midges after you.

A group of us (some families, some couples) stayed here for 5/ days over the bank holiday weekend, and all loved it.
Our main plus point about it was the relaxed atmosphere of the place - it was very unhurried, very quiet and a lovely tranquil place to stay. The noise of the stream which runs through the site drowned out any noise from all but your direct next door neighbours. There are 4 fields - field 4 is the one where campfires are allowed but is also the one where D of E groups stay, and the one furthest from the nicer of the washblocks. We were in field 3, which was far more picturesque and more personal feeling.
The two washblocks are both kept lovely and clean, but the one nearest the office is far far superior and has more facilities. The stream was great for kids to play in and for beers to cool in. The animals (horses, cows, pigs, sheep and chickens) provided our 1 year old with endless amusement.
The shop was good and the meat (all sold frozen but with microwave available to defrost - nice touch) was delicious. The whole are is really beautiful and this was a great base to really get to know it - close to morland and coastline. Highly recommended and we will be back.

We stayed in the 4th Field and even though it was busy, privacy and noise levels were respected. No hot water on two occasions in the small block near our field but soon fixed. This block was small (only one shower in the gents and never any toilet paper). The area was perfect for the children who had a wonderful time swinging over the water. Lovely village about 2 1/2 miles down the road. Wood was expensive at £5 a bag and very wet so ended up with smoke in our eyes the whole time. The shop is expensive but well stocked.

Spent a week here in August, a really great site, a good size which means you are not stepping over people to get around. The facilities are ok, the biggest bonus is the farm shop which has great organic veg and local meat, we had some amazing lamb sausages that I am drooling thinking about!
The site was busy, and as another reviewer has commented, the 'chav element' was certainly noticeable, I can imagine you would want to avoid this site during school holidays if you are looking for a peaceful camping trip
Being able to have a camp fire is great, although it might be an idea to take some with you if you are going during peak times, as the farm ran out very quickly and all local garages/shops had sold out.
The area is beautiful, some fantastic historical monuments in the area. All in all, had a great time and would recommend!

We had a lovely time here, despite the weather! The field was kept clean and well mown and you could choose where to pitch your tent. The facilities were great - always had plenty of toilet roll, soap and hot water. Even provided bowls to place your belongings in when you showered.
We went prior to the school holidays, so it was lovely and quiet, not sure what it would be like with loads of kids around?
Site had a good shop with ample stocks and there was a shop in the village a couple of miles away if there wasn't what you wanted in the site shop.

Spent a week here, and despite the rain had a great time. Arrived on the Monday of a bank holiday weekend so arrived as most were leaving. However it was still quite busy. Although the fields are large, the prime spots are along the stream, so get there early to get the good spots!
I think with the size of the site, they could easily have one of the four fields as adults only. This might have helped avoid the unknown five year old kid piddling on my tent at 7am!
Gorgeous location, and now a convert to the area, there is lots to see. Look up 'Tarr Steps' a prehistoric bridge.
There is a nice farm shop with produce from the farm. The pork and apple sausages are great!
One downside. The prices! A little hefty I thought. £5 for a bag of logs. I found a bigger bag for sale at a local petrol station for £3.50.
Will go again for sure!

Stayed at Westermill for a long weekend over the May bank holiday. Beautiful setting. Pitch where you like and campfires in the 4th field real plus points. As has been said, owners very laid back, but can be inconsistent with charging as has also been mentioned - prices varied each time for freezing ice blocks in our case.
Facilities adequate although showers cold as soon as site started to fill up, fine before site filled up but once more people arrived had to go before 7am to get hot water.
Would certainly recommend this site but be prepared for cold showers!

Just returned from a great weekend at Westermill.
Following reading reviews on here and comments re: it being in the top 10 of Guardian rated campsites my expectations were high and I left feeling that the site is overly hyped / rated.
It's only average for Devon and Cornwall. There are many similar setups (farm based, relaxed, campfire etc etc) that are a lot better.
Lovely middle of nowhere location next to a river. The fact that campfires were allowed was the deciding factor for us in choosing this campsite for this weekend.
Downsides. Too few showers for the number of campers. Could do with refurbishment and a family bathroom if aiming to compete with the best.
Watch out for inconsistent charging. We weren't charged for our 2 year old, but our friends who arrived later were and for their 15 week old (!) 'you'll use our bins for her nappies.'
Far higher chav element groups than I was expecting. Despite all the rules, music could be heard throughout the weekend. Though to be fair is was quiet after midnight.

The site is run on very laidback lines, saw little of the owners but were friendly and helpful. There is a good little information point and small shop.
Stayed in the fourth field for the campfires, more of a group field with lots of people just stopping the one night. The third / fourth field shower block had all the basics and sinks at the side for washing up.
The farm and site are in a gorgeous valley and not once in six days did I hear any traffic or evidence of the outside world from my pitch. There is plenty to see and do around Exmoor and Westermill is bang in the middle.

This site is extremely peaceful and secluded which is just what we were after. I'm not sure what the toilet/shower block were like for fields 3 and 4. But the ones we used were absolutely wonderful and the owners provided a lot of extras (i.E. Somewhere to leave your clothes whilst in the shower, solar showers, etc)
As far as I could tell, all of the fields had the river/stream running alongside which was very soothing in the evening, but not very helpful if you woke up in the night with a full bladder :-) The fourth field allows campfires, but I got the impression this is only allowed in certain areas, and with the owners permission.
The on-site shop sells most things food-wise that you'll need for a camping trip (including beer!) but is a bit pricey. Considering the scarcity of local supermarkets and my reluctance to drive, I was prepared to pay the going rate however ;-)
Will definitely go back again.
