This was our first camping trip and the site was wonderful I have been reading the recent reviews and they do not reflect the excellent facilities although they do reflect the awesome surroundings.
I hope it has not gone downhill since we went as it remains one of our best trips ever.
The site is beautiful and we really enjoyed the walks which were advertised in the site office.

We found our stay at westermill an enjoyable one, there were four fields which we could choose from and where to pitch our tent (No wind). The fields were very hilly but at the bottom it was pretty flat. A relaxing river ran passed our tent which was quiet. The second field was a long way from the facility's which had good toilets with three hot showers and wash basins provided with soap. Outside there were 4 washing up sinks with hot water (the hot water was free for everything). It was a quiet site with a village 2 miles away consisting of a couple of pubs, a walk and a shop that sold most things. The stay was cheap and we will be going back soon.

A tranquil campsite in a beautiful location. We stayed in the fourth fieled where campfires are allowed, which was a little busier than the other fields. I'd recommend booking in advance.
Terrible weather, unfortunately, with some flooding in the field, and cars coming and going had really churned up the grass at the entrance to the field, making getting on and off site and interesting experience. It was a bit of a problem, but not sure what could have been done about it.
Getting to Westermill Farm is also interesting as it's down winding, single track roads.
Facilities are basic, but acceptable. There's a small shop on site which sells bread, milk etc. Due to the weather, it was all a bit muddy and wet, and the toilets could have been a bit cleaner.
However, for location and space it's wonderful. There were lots of walks, that we weren't able to do as we were cowering in our tent as the rain lashed against the canvas.
Overall, definitely a site we'd visit again.

It rained heavily but we had a really good tent and kept dry but the stream that developed underneath it was worrying. The sheep grazing around the tend supplied a ready supply of manure for us to tread into it. The toilets ought to be closed down as a health hazard and the showers were bracing and dirty. Although the rules were specific regarding noise nuisance after 11 pm, midnight parties were not discouraged which made it unbearable for those who wished to enjoy peace and quiet. We would never go to that site again which is a shame as it could be made to work.

We stayed this summer and just caught the lovely warm weather. The site is no frills and exactly what we wanted as first time campers.
Being able to have a campfire is fantastic, make sure you take your own logs though, you are not allowed to collect wood on Exmoor due to it being a National Park and the farm does not sell wood either. The added bonus of having a fire is that it gets very cold at night (I wore virtually all the clothes I took at night!).
The only constructive criticism and only because I came unprepared, was that the sinks where you can wash up do not have plugs, so make sure you bring a washing up bowl. The same for the sinks in the toilets, no plugs so you cannot have a bowl of water to wash. The river is great fun but watch out for mossies and gnats which are out in force as dusk approaches, make sure you take plenty of insect repellant! Would very much recommend this site, we had great fun.

A lovely peaceful site and found the facilities really good. People have said that the toilet block in the third field wasn't up to much but I found it fine and the free showers were hot every time I used them. It's quite a drive out in the evening to pubs and restaurants but the site is nice enough to spend a lot of time there. Would definitely go back.

Best site I've ever been to. Two miles from civilisation, 5 miles from mobile phone reception, 5 cm from a midge! Typical camper is a Guardian reader, or possibly Dutch. Exmoor is one of England's best kept secrets - no traffic jams, few caravans, no speed cameras, plenty of open space to walk, 'hire' a horse, go to the beach. Best memory - pony trekking across Exmoor and seeing a buzzard and a yellowhammer close up - my first ever time on a horse. Will I go back? Yes.

We have been going to this site since 2005. We normally stay in the bottom field where they allow fires. You can pitch your tent anywhere in this field but if you want a fire then you need to be close to the stream. The site can be busy in the school holidays; we have been lucky and have always managed to get a pitch near to the stream and had a fire. Wood is sold on site too. There is a shop where they sell the farms produce and some basic necessities which is really useful. The toilets close to the bottom field are very basic but the main shower block nearer to the farm entrance is both large and clean Walking from the site is fantastic, there are many different walks you can try, more than enough to keep you occupied if you are going to spend a long weekend there. All in all a great site, well run can't wait to go back there this Friday

The 4 camping fields were lovely and flat all along the edge of the river Exe. If you want to get back to nature, this is definitely the site to do it. No mobile signal and they discourage radios. So nice and quiet. The only noises were the cows and sheep, the river and kids playing!
The kids loved being so close to cows, sheep and pigs. And the owners actively encouraged you to make the most of the farm with 3 marked out walks starting from the site, each with different degrees of difficulty! Also the farm shop was very good, providing all the basics and two freezers full of chops, burgers and sausages (home produced) which were perfect for the BBQ.
There are two shower blocks, the one nearest the farm house, was definitely the nicest of the two. The kids affectionately called the second one, nearest camping fields 3 and 4, 'The Cow Shed'. But it was clean and met our needs, although, to get a hot shower it was definitely down to timing. I found that if you got in there before 9am you could get a hot shower. Although, it appeared that people were using them throughout the day.
It is a perfect escape and close to the moors and the beach's. We will definitely be going again!

Westermill camp site is on the head waters of the river Exe. It is a working sheep and beef cattle farm and is about 3miles east of the town of Exford on Exmoor . The site consists of 5 fields mostly flat.they accept 5 caravans but beware it is a long narrow approach to the site. The washing facility are basic but clean but be prepared to wait in the busy times. This site is suitable for all types of campers. The first four fields are for people who like it peaceful well in the evening when the kids are tucked away,The last field his were you should go if you like a campfire and a singsong, but tone it down a bit after eleven. But you can sit up most of the night around the fire Talking if you want to in this big field, This is where all my family meet up every year, if a new camper arrives we explain we may have a singsong and a lot of talking until the early hours. Most say so do we but it does give the ones who go to bed early a chance to move before they set up. It is very central to all places of interest around Exmoor and I can recommend this site. It is one of those Happy Sites you will know what I mean for down to earth campers.
