My twelve year old son selected this site. A perfect choice! We arrived on the Easter Sunday and stayed five nights. The weather was stupendous, hot and sunny every day. This did mean that once the sun when down it was desperately cold.! However, we pitched our tent by the river (a great place to keep your beer cool!), kicked off our shoes and watched the sun go down, to the sound of babbling and gurgling from the water. Utopia! This is an incredibly beautiful and quite site, well away from everything, even mobile phone signals! The closest village, Exford, is two and a half miles away and offers a village shop, post office, pub and tea rooms. All offering a friendly welcome and all reasonable value for money. The surrounding countryside and moors offer fantastic views and walking opportunities, some very challenging, others gentle but just as rewarding. The site staff and owners were very friendly and helpful and would open the shop (offering most of the basics) almost to order, before 21:00 and providing they weren't sitting down to eat. Combined with a good clean toilet block, hot showers and washing-up facilities (solar energy powered), this site nearly has it all. The only criticism, if there could be any was that there were no recycling facilities, which seemed a little odd to us, but horses for courses. We collected our bottles, cans, paper and plastics and took them to the recycling centre in Exford, but sadly noticed most people chucked everything in the bins. This is a site that we will definitely return to, as it is somewhere to escape the 'hurley burley' of modern living.

For our second visit to this farm, once again we had the most fantastic time. We stayed for a week and didn't want to go home. The kids (all of us) played in the river and swam in the natural pool there. Camp fires in field 4 kept us warm and we even managed to cook our meals on it - real camping. Highly recommended - the showers are HOT and the water is plentiful. Enjoy*****

We visited this site in June, it was pouring with rain and we were told as we hadn't booked we would have to pitch on the slope in the first field. It was a beautiful site although there were a lot more than 60 pitches in use. Toilets & showers were clean and on field one we were quite close by but if you were on field 3 or 4 it was a long trek for a shower.Only 3 male & 3 female showers for whole site. During week it quietened down and was very pleasant. We were disappointed to see they were allowing touring caravans on site even though their web site says they don't. Shop was only open an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening and stock was extremely limited. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking and certainly worth a visit to this area.

Fantastic site, far and away my favourite that I have found yet. The rare treat of being able to have open fires and being on the edge of a lovely stream that children, dogs and adults for that matter can play in and enjoy. You are out in the middle of the farm with four fields to choose from, the site is big, but back to basics and has a very personal feel. we have now been a number of times and still haven't got round to doing the amazing works that are around it on the farm land. the showers, etc. Are basic but they do the job and we have been happily with very young children. highly recommend it to those looking for a beautiful site where you are woken up to the sound of cows mooing and the babbling stream.

The location of this campsite is lovely and out of the way from everything but we were most disappointed with the site itself. The toilets were in what would look to be a shed. In the gents there were no toilet seats that were not broke. Also the sink coming out of them was horrible and made you almost sick every time you went past. We also found that right next to the drinking water there was a place to put waste water but some people were putting human waste down there which was disgusting and meant we had to buy water to drink. Also there are only three showers for each sex in the whole site which is not enough, and all had concrete floors which is not hygienic at all. There is no lighting at all in the camp site once the night has fallen. The set up for the site is not every good either, we went away to have a much needed quite break only to find that there is no separate play area for children which meant our tent was in the middle of they playing ground and had several balls hitting out tent from 7:00 each morning and children screaming! With a little more organisation and money spent on the site it could be a really lovely place to be due to the location but unfortunately we will not be going there again.

A great site for those who want to get back to nature. If you have an have an affinity to 'canvas' and don't want the sight of endless white caravans spoiling the view this is the place for you. We pitched by the river and the kids had great fun paddling and fishing with nets, as did we! The site is well managed and the sausages in the shop must be tried at least once; rarely have I tasted better. Local shop in Exford well stocked and not over pricey. One down side was that the toilets were challenged and at times blocked. However, much was probably down to a few guests not thinking of those who had to follow, an observation that could be made of other sites also. The atmosphere is relaxed, the mood tranquil, the staff friendly, the setting idyllic. If you are looking for a quiet site where the kids are are safe to roam, then this is it.

We spent a week here and loved it. Having returned to camping fairly recently I was encouraged to find that places like this still exist. The surroundings are beautiful. I think I read somewhere that this is the only campsite in the UK not bordered by any roads - just the fields and surrounding hills/moorland. The toilets and showers are sluiced every day so very clean, but if you're not an early riser - or showerer at least - be prepared to shower in semi-darkness as the lights go out sometime around 10:30/11am. The shallow river is a great treat for the children - the water is crystal clear if a little chilly. This certainly doesn't discourage them. No mobile phone or Blackberry reception is a complete bonus. We will certainly return.

Absolutely lovely site - we had a thoroughly great time here. Very relaxed and friendly. They just leave you in peace. Very quiet site except for all the Duke of Ed lot in the far fields ;-) There are 4 fields for camping, 1st one is fenced off from stream, 2+3 are available next to the steam and 4 has campfire areas. Fantastic. Toilet block has full facilities and is kept clean and tidy. The solar panels work brilliant for heating steaming hot water. The children spent the entire 3 days in the stream even though it was raining! Lovely sausages, burgers and eggs available from their shop - but the shop in Exford supplies anything you need or have forgotten. Ideal campsite for those who like nature, peace and quiet, walking. No TV or electric hook ups - lovely!

June 2005 We took our small tent to this campsite in June 2005. We didn't have to book as there was plenty of space.
The campsite is set in a beautiful quiet valley, and you are surrounded by greenery. There were quite a few midges but we were pitched under a tree and by the river so this wasn't unexpected.
The facilities are basic but do the job. There are toilets and showers, a washing up area, taps for drinking water and a shop. In Exford there are a few small shops but these close at lunchtime on Saturday and Sunday.
We had a bit of trouble with the directions from the campsite's website- when you get to the tree with the campsite sign on it, take the left hand fork!
Definitely recommended- makes a good base for exploring the Minehead area and Exmoor.

August 2005 Westermill farm was and is a super campsite, where camping is still camping. toilets and showers adequat and clean. Camping fields just great. Fires are allowed in the fourth field. The shop sells lovely organic meat. The onsite walks are very nice. The Exmoore is very beautiful, Porlock and Minehead provide shops.
