This campsite is geared towards camping it only has 8 hookup pitches (that I could see).

Toilet block clean and showers cost 20p but we didn't try these out as we had the luxury of on board facilities.

Shop and reception had strange opening times either in the morning until 11am and then in the evening 5 - 8pm.

The site is a brilliant spot for walking up scafell pike and that's what we did despite the weather. Ended up on the summit in 30MPH winds and halestone.

The road to the site was a little daunting, we were in a 6 meter motorhome at 2.3 meters wide and there were some narrow bridges.

Would recommend and will return.

Stayed here for my sons 21st birthday, just 3 of us in 2 pods. Have to say for views this is one of my favourite ever sites. I love it but the drive over is hair raising to say the least.

Will be back at the end of the year when hopefully the pods will be available as they are great when you've spent a long day on the hills and need a bit of warmth.

Nice big showers and plenty of loos. Didn't use the shop as brought all my goodies with me. Would recommend this site if you like peace and quiet but if you need shops and all the other touristy stuff some people head to the Lakes for I'd say it wouldn't be for you.

My idea of going to the Lakes is for walking and relaxation so was perfect

Great views great location. I have been here well over 10 times on mike hikes in the lakes.

Warm showers clean toilets. Sinks for cleaning, Drinking water, Washer and dryer.

There is a on site shop which is meant to be open all year round but some times is not open.

There is a pub with in about 15 minutes walk and a hiking shop to by the pub.

The staff are friendly to.

We agree with most of the previous comments regarding the superb location of this site.

On word of warning is that, whilst the NT website (& info board outside reception) states that reception is open 5 to 8 p.M., we turned up at 7.30 to find everything closed! Granted, there was a Late Arrivals envelope with our barrier pass, but that was it! We were left to our own devices about where the motorhome pitches were etc.

As a previous M/H owner had commented, you can get some early morning noise from the adjacent car park which the pitches back onto.

Also be aware that the CDP is by the toilet block which is some distance away! Plus, fill up with water by reception as there is no water supply close to the pitches.

Our visit was thwarted by the weather, but you can't blame the site for that!

Super selection of beers at the pub though!

A wonderfully remote site in a stunning location. We had amazing weather when we visited so were able to spend our time outside which was lucky as there is not a lot to do in the surrounding area if the weather is too bad for walking, climbing etc.

The campsite itself was very clean, well maintained and well looked after. Toilet and showers were also spotless. Not many showers and there were long waits at peak times. Showers are not free. They cost 20p. BUT, this 20p gives you a lot of hot water. There was a small, well stocked shop on site which was well priced.

The drive there was quite scary. We only have a 1.2 v-reg Clio That did not like the hills.

Overall. A nice clean well kept site that is a bit of the beaten track. Great base for walkers and climbers. Not so great for people who prefer more tourist based attractions.

Hi I stayed here late May bank holiday. Great location to start your climb to Scarfell pike, plenty of other fells to climb in the area. Great site, well kept, tents well spaced out so not falling over each other. Well maintained shower blocks showers only 20p. The site shop is well stocked and reasonably priced, the staff are helpful.

Only one pub, it can get a little busy. The meals are reasonably priced the dearest being 10 pounds and a pint of lager is around 3 pounds so on the whole not bad. The road driving in is a little hairy I suggest you take your time, and the nearest village is Gosforth which is about 8 miles away.

Overall a lovely peaceful place to stay with beautiful surroundings and a fell walkers paradise.

Used the site because of it's close proximity to Scafell pike. Easy to find but the road can get a bit tight in places for the motorhome but not really a problem so don't let that put you off

The toilets and showers are of a reasonable standard and the staff were very friendly and willing to offer assistance when needed

The site only seemed to have about 4 or 5 EHU pitches and were situated next to the NT carpark so you may get a bit of noise throughout the night, we were disturbed at 02:35 by walkers setting off to climb Scafell from then on several more groups arrived in the early hours

All in all it's a good site as a base for walking, but not one I would like to spend too many nights on.

We stayed here over the 1st May Bank Holiday. We had booked using the new online booking system. Even though the site was fully booked there was plenty of space left between the tents. We were made most welcome by the staff on arrival and during our stay.

The facilities were always clean during this very busy period. The water for washing up was free and always hot. The showers lasted for what seemed an eternity and were only 20p. The shop was very well stocked(they don't sell alcohol). The new barrier system made you feel very secure on this site.

The Wasdale Head Inn is a 15/20 minute walk away and had a nice selection of beers on. The food was reasonable priced and very good.It is best getting to the pub early as it was very busy and tables were scarce. The site was quiet in the evening as the people who come here are here mainly for the walking.

There is plenty of good walks in the area(Scafell, Great Gable, Mosedale Circuit, etc). In the past we was put off coming here as it is on the far side of the lakes and a long way to come to risk finding the site full. This has now all changed with the booking system and we will definitely be back and highly recommend the site.

Spent two nights at this fantastically located site. Wardens friendly and helpful, good facilities, shop, good pitches for motorhomes and great views all round.

It's a great place for walking - we did Kirk Fell and Great Gable this time and retired to the Wasdale Inn for drinks. It's a good pub, but I'm not sure about food as I didn't try it.

Great site, will return,

I have used this site a few times and love it. It is almost like wilderness camping but with great facilities. Just be warned that like most mountain area campsites it can be midge hell in summer.

The only downer for me is you can't book so it's worth ringing ahead to make sure you are likely to get in. Apparently they are looking at implementing booking next year.

Note that this site tends to be used by outdoorsy types and probably isn't the best site if you have a large family tent as you can't park on you pitch so you have to carry everything, OK with a small tent but not so good if you have large family tent and lots of kit.
