We really liked this site, it is in a beautiful location. Great for walking up Scarfell and surrounding hills. The aspect is lovely and it is a nice quiet site. The showers are good and the staff nice and helpful. There is a good pub within walking distance and Wastwater is just a few minutes walk away. The drive through Hardnott Pass is a little hair raising but fun if you are careful although there is the longer coastal route for the faint hearted. Not only is this a good site for the surrounding hills it is close to the little villages on the coast and the steam railway. Also there are no cars allowed on the camp field itself which is a nice change and the car park is not far.

This is a fantastic site with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. There is a well supplied small shop open for a few hours each day. No booking is required so you can pay at the shop if open when you arrive or in the morning when the wardens tour the site. The site is hidden in trees and this allows the site to be very quiet and unobtrusive even when busy. The toilet block, showers and washing up areas were very clean and in good working order. The site is very popular with serious walkers who plan to climb nearby Scafell so it is very quiet at night as most people are in their tents by 10 pm to be ready for an early start. The site is some distance by car from other lakes and towns so it is perhaps not the ideal location if you plan to use it as a base to tour the Lake District. A pub is about 30 minutes walk up the valley and serves an excellent range of beers and simple but rather over-priced food. All-in-all a fantastic site and we plan to return again next year.

> Fantastic location right underneath the face of Scarfell Pike. Some excellent walks from your tent with breathtaking scenery. There are 2 pubs nearby (10 min. Walk) 1 actually had a solo guitarist playing on the Sat. Night- great atmosphere!
> On arrival you receive a leaflet with the usual Do's and Dont's, 1 being not to pitch closer than I think 3 m. (10 big strides as the friendly man suggested!) so plenty of space around your tent. There are 2 fields to choose from each with a toilet block and 1 having a children's playground.
> There is a small shop on site providing basics and free use of freezer for your ice-packs.
> The toilet facilities were plentiful; several toilets, some individual sink cubicles, 4 showers, 20p. For 5 mins. Free electrical points for hairdryer etc. A drying room, washing machine and dryer and several washing -up areas. Soap and hand drying facilities were also provided. The toilet block was cleaned morning and night. Cost £15.50 per. Night. Great value considering all the facilities.

Its long been a dream of mine to camp in Wasdale and I finally fulfilled it in March 2009.
Superb campsite, a lot bigger then you expect. Large shower / toilet / laundry / dishwasing block. The area we picked was relatively easy to put pegs in, hit one or two stones but nothing a move to the left or right didn't solve. Several toilets, four showers, although didn't use so can't comment, plenty of hot water on tap. Warden comes round in the morning to collect fees. Little shop which sells very basic produce and only open 8-10 in the morning. Views sublimed.

Stayed for 2 nights in one of their camping pods and it was great! The site is at the end of a fantastic drive, really feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. There was literally only a couple of other people on the site, so maybe it's different when it's busy, but it appeared well organised, facilities were clean, showers hot and only 20p. The staff were really friendly when I called to book and helpful about how to get there. If you ever can't be bothered to pack your tent but want a camping experience, then try a Pod!
Oh, the Wasdale Head Inn, the nearest pub, was a little disappointing. Nice beer, poor selection of expensive food.

Finished off our New Year break with a couple of nights at this lovely site. Unfortunately site does not take bookings and operates on a first come first served basis. Can't see this being a problem for tents but might cause a problem if hardstanding with electric hook up is required, as only a limited number available. Larger vehicles be prepared for the narrow approach roads prior to the lake, especially at busy times. Set amongst stunning scenery this site ticked all our boxes. Facilities are clean, staff are friendly and pitches are of adequate size and level. Shop in reception was well stocked with the basics, the time of the year meant that opening hours where limited, but caused no problems. Local Pub, Wasdale Head Inn was most inviting and warming with a good selection of beer and comfort food, perfect after a day on the fells. Will definitely return but for longer next time.

The was our 1st visit to this site and having read the previous reviews were looking forward to a great weekend with some walking. I would not go as far as to say we were disappointed but a few things happened that would make us think about going again. This is the 1st site we have been to, (camping for over 20 years) where anything has gone 'missing'. This was not what we expected from this site and with the help of the warden and a suitably worded note on the site notice board the items were returned anonymously 1/2 hour later. Not really the point but be warned. The site also appeared to be accepting very large groups. You also have to be off site by 11am on your day of departure and they do check. The toilet block was clean and showers hot and ok for 20p although only 1 hook in the cubicle made keeping your clothes dry a bit of a challenge. The site is also very dark at night with the only light near the office so take a torch and spare batteries, this goes for walking to the pub as well - about 20 mins away. We called at the Wasdale Head Inn. Whilst we didn't eat there, the food appeared to be around £9 for mains with snacks also available. The beer selection was huge with 8 of their own real ales to choose from. The site itself is in a stunning location and probably the best we have stayed at for its views. You will not get any mobile reception in the immediate area but there is an on site landline. We would also mention the nearby farm shop where we bought some lamb for dinner. It was superb and great value for money. The site shop was well stocked with tinned food etc and accessories, gas etc. We are glad we went and would probably return.

What a gem of a site, we loved this site. You cannot pre-book a pitch so we took a chance and drove up on the off chance & we struck lucky, we got a nice little spot. The toilets and showers were really good, there were 4 showers, they cost 20p. They had great washing up facilities although we didn't need to use these being in a motorhome. There were some great walks round there, fantastic scenery, peace & quiet, just wish we had more time to explore we could only stay one night, will definitely return.

This was the third port of call for an End to End of the UK. I'd read the review and decided I'd have to give it a go. The drive in was nothing short of breathtaking, driving along Wastwater. Was lucky to get a pitch, but found the parking a bit of a pain. You have to park in the designated car park, which means lots of to-ing and fro-ing with equipment etc. However, I can understand the benefits of this, and it was nice to see a campsite without cars everywhere. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the shop was well stocked, but highly priced (loaf of bread was expensive). The surrounding area is nothing short of beautiful, tucked at the foot of Scafell. The views across the lake (England's deepest) were sublime. Mobile phone signal was almost non-existent, understandable given the location - I found a large pile of scalpings to stand on and that got me 3 or 4 minutes of reception. The pitch was a little hard, I must've chosen a patch with a tent sized slab of rock beneath it, as I couldn't get a peg in deeper than about 2.5'. Luckily it was calm weather, so no worries there. Toilet & shower block was well maintained. Purely for the scenery alone it's worth a visit - but next time I'll check the ground beneath my chosen pitch.Lesson learnt!

Absolutely brilliant site if you want to get away from it all and enjoy the great outdoors. No mobile signal, which was a plus for us, lovely drive along the lakeside to get to the site, no clubhouses or other onsite entertainment.
The toilet block was clean, did get a bit muddy during the weekend when numbers went up and it had been raining for days, but it was well-maintained. The 20p showers were fine, more than enough water pressure and hot water, and if you planned ahead, 20p was enough time too. 4 showers in the ladies', apparently 6 in the gents'. Washing machine and tumble dryer on site for those wet, muddy clothes and towels that refuse to dry in the constant rain!
The onsite shop opened for a couple of hours morning and evening, sufficient time to check the day's weather forecast, buy some fresh milk and a tomato or two for breakfast, along with some very good quality bacon, sausages, local beef and local lamb.
The NT staff on site were very friendly and helpful, and were seen strolling around the site checking that all was OK.
Local attractions are the fells and the lake, nothing else needed really. We had dinner at The Screes in Nether Wasdale, a few miles down the road, very good food and good value for money.
We were there 9 days in July 2008, it rained every day at some point, but didn't dampen our spirits at all. Will definitely return.
