Absolutely fantastic site, breathtaking scenery and nice clean site. We camped here for our Scafell Pike Hike and was just superb location wise. Lovely clean facilities which cost 20p so make sure you have lots spare! The pub isn't too far away, we discovered the stream someone else mentioned on the way back from the pub (we walked the road way there and after a few too many we was brave enough to walk amongst the sheep) I agree it's too wide to jump and we had to take shoes and socks off to cross - very funny but also VERY cold in April! We would definitely return if we're lucky enough to be in this beautiful part of the country again.

August 2005 This campsite is absolutely fantastic. I must admit I'm not an avid camper - however I really loved this place. It's really peaceful and the surroundings are amazing. The facilities are really clean and the site is well organised. I would reccommend this site to everyone...MUST GO!

August 2005 Fantastic, quiet site with breathtaking scenery. Good facilities, showers and hairdryer cost 20p, toilets clean, washup sinks and laundry room. Shop open daily 8-10am and 5-8pm for basic supplies. Just been with my 2 boys aged 11 and 14 and spent the whole 4 days walking on the fells with the dog, taking in the scenery. Came over hardknot pass but didnt go back that way!!! Very friendly staff and campers, highly recommended if you require a peaceful holiday, walking on the fells.

July 2005 Absolutely brilliant! Only problem was that we only had five days!! Marvellous facilities, very helpful and friendly staff, and wonderful views! The Wasdale Head Inn is well, well worth the short walk, as both the ale and food are excellent. We went to wasdale on our first camping holiday, (me, my wife, and 2 young boys), after originally choosing another site, which was very busy and rather unfriendly. Thank heavens we went up to wasdale, we even made it up Scafell Pike, a "lot of up", and "even more down" as the climb was explained to me by some more experienced climbers! But all of us got up and down ok, with still enough time left for food and beer!
Did have one or two problems with noisy/out of control dogs, but a quiet word with the owners, and there was no more problem. We will definately visit again... even if just to get out of range for the mobile phone, radio etc!!

May 2005 Having read previous reviews, I decided to book the Friday off work and went up for the bank holiday. What a wise move this was, as the SITE FULL signs were up by about 8 o'clock. The campsite is excellent (tents and camper vans only, no caravans. It would be a nightmare getting a caravan down the narrow roads. Car drivers also take note, watch out for the gorse bushes! I've scratched the roof of my car on one of them!)
Some other things to note. Make sure you pitch your tent so you can lie down and watch the clouds wrap and unfold around Great Gable. Absolutely fantastic! Make sure you wear your walking boots if you're going to take the footpath from the campsite to the pub. The signs say the path is liable to flooding. I'd say this was pretty irrelevant information as it actually passes through a stream leading to Wastwater and it's too wide to jump!! You might be alright in the height of summer I suppose but be warned. Also, be prepared to keep yourselves entertained if it's bad weather as you're pretty far from everywhere else on this campsite. Also (and this is the biggest lesson I learnt this weekend) if you're thinking of coming over Wrynose Pass and HardKnott Pass to get there, just make sure your passengers aren't afraid of heights! It's pretty hairy up there! If you're going for the walking though, you'll absolutely love it. I've walked quite a bit in the Lakes and I've never felt some completely in the thick of it as I felt walking from Wasdale. Enjoy!

July 2004 This is a Great site. It is not the campsite next to the Wasdale Head Inn. It is back towards the lake and is in a fine location. The facilities are great good showers and toilets. The pub Wasdale Head Inn is about a 15 minute walk away. It brews its own beer (great). There is only one snag with this camp site. If you are only going for the weekend you wont be able to book and if you choose to go at a busy summer one then the site gets full fairly quickly so get there as early as possible.

Visited many times over the years This is the best site I have been to, in respect to both site facilities and setting. I have been with family, friends, expedition groups and also alone, each time enjoying myself greatly. Congratulations.

June 2003 A pleasant site with all facilities - toilets, showers, laundry, washing-up area, shop etc. Mainly occupied by tents. A few small campervans. Not suitable for caravans because the site is located at the far end of a valley with a narrow road. Thankfully there is a hotel which is a short walk away from the site. You can drink good ale and eat well at Ritson’s Bar attached to Wasdale Head Hotel. The site is encircled by huge mountains such as Great Gable, Lingmell, Yewbarrow and the Scafells. Scafell Pike which is the highest peak in England can be ascended from all directions, but the easiest ascent of all is from this campsite. I hope to succeed one day! Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Wasdale is also occupied by an enormous and very deep lake called Wastwater. Your enjoyment of this site depends very much on having decent weather. Very depressing in heavy cloud and rain because the scenery is obliterated but idyllic in sunshine. Phil
