Just returned from a week here and have to say we are very impressed with everything we experienced, so much so we would rate it as one of the top five sites we have visited in 30+ years of both caravanning and camping. Friendly and efficient welcome, very attractive and well maintained site overall. Pitch size is really generous with good hardstanding area and lovely quality close mown grass surrounding it. Toilets/showers ultra clean and again very attractive inside and out. We liked the little touches both practical and aesthetic such as bowls and drainers in the washing up area, matting outside the toilet block doors to help stop dirt coming in, fresh water stands are granite posts rather than the usual metal pipe and tap stuck on a bit of upright wood, recycling bins neatly parked in their own area, box of housebricks outside reception to stand your BBQs on along with the weather and what to do/visit suggestions on a chalkboard. Nice dog walk path along the river and what has to be the best Elsan disposal point we have ever encountered. Sadly we didn't have chance to use the indoor swimming pool but it is a good size and again very clean plus there are sun loungers outside of it. Like everything else at River Valley the play areas and equipment are good and well maintained. There is a bus a few mins walk away which goes into Mevagissy one way and St Austell/Fowey the other. The site shop stocks basics at usual camp site prices and off site across the road is a small shop selling pretty much everything you need. Mobile phone signal (Vodafone) is not great and the site offers paid for WiFi (£15 for a week but you can purchase less or more time). Although the road is quite close you hardly hear it as there's a good depth of trees and bushes surrounding the site. To sum up we have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending River Valley to anyone and we look forward to returning next year for two weeks this time.

We have just returned from a lovely week at River Valley, helped in no small way by the fantastic weather. This is a very well kept site, kids loved the games room, swimming pool and play area. The site was very busy while we were there but we didn't have any queues for showers or toilets. Facilities were kept spotless and once a pitch was vacated the grass was cut promptly to leave it ready for the next people. All was quiet by 10 pm which suited us well. The position is fantastic as you are close to beaches, shops and good cycle routes. We managed the ride to Mevagissey, quite hard going in places but worth it for the lovely fresh mackerel baps from the van on the quay. All in all a really nice holiday, which, even though we extended our stay 1 more day, we still wanted to stay longer-alas school and work were waiting for us back home.

We have just returned from spending the long bank holiday weekend at River Valley.
The positives:-
Easy to find, easy access onto the site, well priced pitches (a good choice of large, small, grass or hardstanding), friendly and helpful owners and staff, swift booking in (£10 cash required for barrier card but it's refunded in full on return), immaculate grounds and facilities, small shop with essentials including daily newspapers and a fantastic pub (Polgooth Inn - highly recommended!) within an easy walk from the site.
The negatives:-
Once the site was almost full we had electrical problems. We were told it was 16amp but it seemed that both us and our friends couldn't run our heating and fridge at the same time?! We also heard a few other campers with the same problem. However when our friend mentioned it to reception he was told there were no problems with it?
We were pitched next to two families who's clear mission was to consume as much alcohol as possible over the weekend and to let their kids run free, on and off both our pitches, without any consideration for anyone else. One evening 2 adults walked straight through our pitch to collect wood for their open fire from the hedgerow behind our motorhome, even though the site rules clearly stated no open fires!
Kids were unsupervised both on the playground and in the toilets where our friends witnessed 3 or 4 teenage girls running riot and soaking the showers and toilets.
We in no way blame the owners/wardens for any of the bad behaviour it seems to be the way of the world these days sadly.
We would not return to this site during weekends or school holidays but would out of season and mid week in the hope that our break would not be spoilt by the minority.

Having been to many camp sites whether staying in static caravans or chalets from Wales to Devon to Cornwall we have never found a site as well placed for our needs. It was a brilliant site for being dog friendly despite this, was not noisy with dogs around.
Site was a nice size if you don't won't all the activities many have on them. Although we did not use the pool on site it looked very clean and useable. Toilet block was kept very clean and lovely hot showers whatever time of day you chose to use them.
Found all staff to be very helpful and friendly.
All in all would recommend this site 100% look forward to staying there again soon.

We have just returned from a fabulous 4 day break at the River Valley Holiday Park. The holiday park is family run and Alison was very helpful and friendly. We stayed in a static caravan which was very comfortable, well equipped and clean. The site is immaculate and well maintained. There is plenty of space between the static caravans and similarly with the camping area. There is a nice playground for children and an indoor swimming pool. This site is smaller than others in St Austell but we liked that as it gave more of a personal feel.
The holiday park is located a short drive from St Austell and a 15 minute walk from the Pologoth Inn which serves delicious food. There are plenty of things to see and do in the immediate area.
Would recommnend for families and couples that want a relaxed and quiet break.

We recently came back from an 11 night holiday at the River Valley Holiday park in London Apprentice. It was our second visit, we'd enjoyed ourselves that much the year before that we persuaded another family to join us this time. Our first visit had been outside of school holidays, but due to some older children coming with us this year we ended up booking for the middle of the 6 week holidays. Although the sit was fully booked we were by no means crammed in, the pitches are well thought out with plenty of room to spread out. And although the pea gravel can seem unappealing when you are pitching your tent, it actually make for one of the better pitches we've stayed on, as the ground is more level and you have no chance of wonky chairs etc. It also meant that despite torrential rain (typical British weather!) the ground sheets and tent were kept dry as the pitches were able to drain the rain water well. We were prepared on both our visits and brought a sheet of visqueen to put under our ground sheet as we were initially worried about the gravel damaging the tents ground sheet, but the site owners are well prepared for this and have extra ground sheets on offer to guests to borrow.
They facilities are some of the best we have come across. I actually rave to most people about the fact that you have piped the radio throughout the toilet, shower and washing up areas! I think it's marvelous! Most people I have spoken to about camping have been put off by the prospect of sharing the toilet blocks etc with strangers but this seems to help persuade them! And everything is spotlessly clean! Even leaving a floor squeegee available for the guests to sweep away their water for the next user is genius.
The indoor heated pool is a welcome addition to any UK campsite as far as we are concerned, meaning that no matter what the weather we always had something to do. And the kids loved the playground and being able to cycle around the site on their bikes and scooters. The park also asked that children are back at their own tents/vans by 10. 30 and the warden cycled around to check that all was well, we thought this was great as it meant our smaller ones could be persuaded to bed early enough to enjoy the next days activities.
Lastly the location for us is a winner! It's a good 6hrs from home but once you are there you are within easy react of all that Cornwall has to offer. Newquay, Padstow, Truro, the Eden project, the Lost gardens of heligan, Lizard, Lands End etc etc. We got every where! And the local villages and towns are definitely worth a visit, including Mevagissey, Pentewan, Gorran Haven, Fowey and Charlestown.
We will be definitely booking again next year, 14 nights this time for our 10th wedding anniversary, as we can't get enough! The owners are lovely and are extremely helpful (we love the board that is put out everyday with the weather, high tide times and suggestions for the days activities). Love the Marsdens!

We have visited this site for several years now and will go back again! The staff are always friendly and really helpful. The toilet block is always clean and fresh. Each pitch has an electric hook-up. The pitches haven't been squeezed tightly together so there is a feeling of space and lots of grass for the children to play. There is a playground for small children and a zip wire which the older children love. The Pentewan Valley Cycle path runs from the back of the site so you can cycle from the site to Pentewan village off-road (about 4 miles). We took a picnic lunch there on a grey day and wheeled the bikes the last little bit to the beach. There is a laundry room, a games room and an indoor swimming pool (which we tend to use on rainy days as it gets very bright and hot on sunny days - tinted goggles would be helpful!).
There are lots of beaches nearby - we would recommend Porthpean which has rock pools at low tide and nice sand as well as fish and chips and a toilet block on the beach. We also like Caerhays which is a bit further away, but worth the drive.
The Eden Project is worth a visit, especially on wet days.
Our only suggestion is that the hot water for the washing up could be fixed - it is regularly cold or intermittently hot.
Overall this is a fantastic site and perfect for those who enjoy peace and serenity.

WOW.
What an absolutely fantastic site.
The wife, the pooch and I spent a marvellous Ester Weekend here. We have used other sites in the Pentewan Valley, but this was our first visit to this gem of a site.
On arrival you need to have a £10 note at the ready as a security deposit for entry barrier card. This will be received by some of the friendliest reception staff I have ever met.
All the pitches are generously sized, level, and gravelled with a coarse shingle so good stout pegs are required for your awning or tent.
The grounds are very well maintained and you can tell that the staff take immense pride in their work.
The site, although quite close to a road is peaceful and enjoys all day exposure to the sunshine. (YES WE HAD SUNSHINE. AT EASTER. AMAZING)
The swimming pool, which is under cover is a great facility, included in the pitch fees.
SHOP: A small table in the reception sells a few basic items but there is no shop to speak of. However; do not fear, Queenie's here. Across the road from the main entrance, is a great little shop called Queenie's. It is a proper Aladdin's cave of produce selling everything from Alcohol to soft toys. Fresh baked pies, pasties and cakes etc. And Newspapers, should you really want to stay abreast of the outside world.
BAR / RESTAURANT: None. But there are some great drinking houses not too far away. My favourite is the Ship Inn, at Pentewan Village, which is a 5 minute drive away r a relaxing 50 minute walk along the river bank. Can also recommend very highly The Polgooth Inn which is a one mile walk along a wooded road. The Kingswood Bar and Restaurant is only a 2 minute walk away.
TOILET / SHOWERS: Immaculate. I would fear, however, that inn busy times there would be a queue.
ELSAN DISPOSAL: Perfectly situated at the Shower block.
PLAYGROUND: BRILLIANT, safe play surfaces with swings and slides and a zip wire.
BEACH: Pentewan Sands is a 50 minute walk or 5 min car trip down the road. It is a beautiful beach attached to the Pentewan Sands Caravan Park.
NO DOGS ALLOWED ON PENTEWAN BEACH
LOCAL AREA: You are situated in the heart of some of the most picturesque places in Kernow. The Village of Pentewan is stunning with the Ship Inn, and a great Ice Cream / Gift shop and Tea room. There is also a Petrol Station on the main road as you turn toward the village.
I can recommend a visit to Gorran Haven, which has a lovely Dog friendly beach a and a superb array of quaint shops and cafes
Mevagissey is always worth a visit. Fantastic Bars, shops and fresh fish stalls.
St. Austell Town is only a short journey away, and I can recommend using the buses t get there.
ASDA TESCO ALDI all in St. Austell.
SUMMARY: A great Dog friendly site, with some lovely walks and plenty of things to see and do. AND IN MY OPINION ONE OF THE BEST VALUE FOR MONEY SITES ANYWHERE
WE WILL RETURN

We stayed here for 3 nights last week. Pitches are well laid out and kept immaculate. Plenty of waterpoints around the site. Showers and toilets kept very clean and loads of hot water. The site was very busy, but everyone was so friendly. We cycled to Mevagissy but its not for the faint hearted. Two massive hills there and back, but Mevagissy is very pretty. We also cycled to Pentewan. There's a couple of nice pubs for eating and drinking. A lovely beach but the day we visited it was really windy, so there were only a few kite surfers. We could also cycle to St Austell town centre which we did a couple of times. Only one massive hill to contend with. Wheal Martyn clay mine is in cycling distance but again a few hills to tackle but great on the cycle back. A lovely campsite and very cheap. Certainly one to go back to. We spoke to a couple of people who used the site regularly and you could see why they keep returning
