This is an excellent camp site. It is easily accessed from the main road between St Austell and Mevagissey. The pitches are level and of a good size and the hard standings and surrounding grass are kept in tip top condition. There are plenty of taps around for water. The site has a real safe feel to it and has a small and intimate feel to it also. Entry is by a key card operated barrier that you pay a £10 deposit for and returned on departure. Most cars obey the speed limits – there are the inevitable exceptions to this, but were rare – and the kids can play on their bikes and scooters safely. There is also a small playground but the big hit with the kids is the zip wire and the swimming pool. There is also a small games room and laundry. The pool is indoor but can be ‘aired’ on warm days by a series of moveable glass panels. There is seating for parents who would rather supervise from the side than the pool itself. The pool is lovely and warm too. The toilets and showers were always clean and warm, though on one occasion the shower did decide to alternate with hot and cold blasts every time the water button was pressed. Like all camp sites the shower units are designed by a person who will never use them but that’s hardly the fault of the campsite nor is it unique. As campsite facilities go, they are some of the best I’ve come across. There are loads of things to do including a nice cycle trail from the site to Pentewan beach. The key questions are always, would I recommend it and would I go back again and the answer to both these questions in this case are an emphatic YES!

We have been to this site 5 or 6 times and every time has been great.
The toilets and showers are always clean with hot water for showers. The swimming pool is warm and clean and is a good size and safe for children with it not being to deep. The children's playground is really nice with swings, slide and a zip rope.
The campsite has a security barrier to enter which you have a key card to enter which you pay a small depoist for, The campsite at night is nice and quiet never had any problems with noise.
Out the back of the campsite is a nice bike track you can cycle down to Pentewan or if you don't mind the hill climb all the way to the lost gardens of heliagan. You are also within 10 mins of Mevagissey and about 20mins of local beaches.
Overall the campsite is excellent in every way.

This was our forth time at River valley and it was as excellent as ever.
I have posted four reviews about this site since 2009 and there's not much to add except that this still has to be the best site in Cornwall.
The static caravans are immaculate, the staff are absolutely brilliant, in fact 10 out of 10 for everything.
Caravan number 13 this year, swimming pool brilliant, grounds lovely, location excellent, what more can I say.
The only down side was that the pigs and chickens in the field next door have now been moved, we used to love meeting them and going into the field with them but this is only a minor downer.
To the family, keep up the good work and never change a thing.

Had the most amazing time at this fab campsite, wished we had booked a fortnight as there is so much to see and do. The campsite has great facilities including a play park for my two sons (2 and 5) and a swimming pool which was brilliant. There is a small shop nearby and an Asda within a 5 minute drive. The site is fairly small and quiet at night and the static we stayed in was immaculate and had everything we needed.
We visited several nearby beaches, cycled along the camel trail to padstow, visited the lost gardens of helligan, took a boat trip from Megavissey to Fowley and cycled from the campsite to Pentewan bay and to the local pub.
Would definitely return again although took us 7 and 1/2 hours to return home to Nottingham so would suggest leave early if travelling in school holidays!

We stayed here for a week at the begining of July 2013. We booked the site some weeks before but due to a change of cicumstances had to change our day of arrival, this wasn't a problem in fact they couldn't have been more helpful. The site is well placed for touring, and visiting Helligan and the Eden Project.
Things we loved about the site
Lovely large pitches
Excellent shower/bathroom facilities
Peaceful and not crowded.
(Would loved a go on the zip wire)wished I was 10??
Walkes along the river
Walk/cycle to Petewan
Friendly staff
Information and advice updated daily
Cleanliness of facilities and site
Pool was a nice size and well cared for, but not a priority for us.
A big thank you for a great stay

We spent 10 cracking nights at this well run campsite.
The site manager runs a really tight ship and is only too happy to help in any way she can.
The on-site facilities comprised a really well kept shower/toilet block, 2 washing up stations with a freezer for cool blocks, laundrette, kids playroom (pool, air hockey, arcade), kids adventure playground and reception.
This campsite is brilliantly situated in a quiet spot. 10 mins drive in one direction there are several beaches and 10 mins drive in the other is St Austell centre (Asda, B&Q, KFC, Mcdonalds, Halfords etc).
If you want to explore Cornwall this is a brilliant central location. Ideal for camping as we could regularly stock up or eat out just down the road.

We stayed at River Valley for 8 nights and I can honestly say this is the best campsite we have ever stayed on. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the site was clean and well looked after. The swimming pool was lovely and the temperature just right. River Valley is perfectly situated for visiting the local area with some fantastic little fishing villages nearby. Mevagissey is a most beautiful place for food and a drink with plenty of bars and restaurants. Visit Charlestown for nice relaxing day out or go for a stroll along the Pentewan way and visit the beach.

This gem of a campsite was fabulous. Good location next to cycle trail, beach close by. Walking distance to a pub and restaurant. Public transport close by.
Good indoor pool and children's play area.
No clubhouse - so peaceful, quiet park.
All the staff we encountered in reception/shop very helpful and a wealth of local information provided.
Tourist guides provided in abundance with additional info.
Good for motorhomes but no motorhome service point.
Clean, tidy peaceful site definitely one of the best.

This is a great site, we found the facilities were excellent with the shower block very clean and tidy and the showers were superb. Plenty of water points and a great hard standing area. The pool area looked very clean, although we didn't have a chance to use it. The walks around the area are just stunning with a walk through Kings Wood to Pentewan and further walks to Mevagissey and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Dog facilities were good with a short walking area along the river bank Alison on reception was very friendly and helpful just Wished we could have stayed longer.

Recently spent 11 days at this site and have to agree with the positive comments previously made.
First time camping on an all weather pitch and with very heavy rain towards the end of our stay we were very grateful of it.
Facilities very good and always kept clean
- never had to wait for shower or toilets despite site being full. There is a disabled facility and also family bathroom. There is a very good laundry area complete with irons and ironing boards and an internet room available although wifi is available throughout the site - cost 12 per week. Small games room - reasonable priced games and the small pool area is very good with 2 changing rooms, toilet and shower.
Good children's play area with grassed area adjacent for ball games. There is a dog exercise area along the river bank.
The site is generally very quiet and peaceful although children on site were quite noisy between 8 - 10 pm each night as they congregated near play area and the noise levels were quite high for both weeks. I suggest if you are likely to be bothered by noise, request pitches away from play area / toilet blocks. That said the site always went very quiet just after 10pm each night. Main gripe for us was being pitched close to toilet block was that 2 or 3 different families felt that our pitch was ok to park on while they used the facilities sometimes leaving engine running for 20 minutes at a time. There is also some road noise to be heard but this was not a major issue.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area and some nice walks along pentewan trail from the site itself.
We would definitely stay at this site again if returning to the area
