Just returned from a wet week in Devon like many other people.
We booked in to Moor view for 9 nights. As mentioned previously the approach to the site is narrow in places. We were given a choice of 2 routes. During the course of the time we stayed at the site we travelled both routes and found that route 1 is shorter and much quicker and taken slowly is no problem. We were met by the friendly site owner who offered to manoeuvre our caravan on to a pitch which we declined, later realising why, the pitches are so tightly packed together its probably the safe option for many people. Cars have to be parked across the front of pitch we had a small porch awning which left us nowhere to sit if the sun had shone and certainly nowhere to put a barbecue!
Showers and toilets are kept clean and closed for 2 hours from 10. 30-12. 30. No privacy cubicles however.
We have a small elderly dog and found the dog walk inadequate even for him. The roads are so narrow around the site we didn't feel safe enough to walk out on foot and as there are no footpaths directly accessible without walking on the road we had to use our car to take the dog for a walk, so not really what I would call a dog friendly site. There are many signs telling dog owners not to walk around the part of the site where the lodges are, yet we noticed the lodge owners and their children walking around the caravans.
The California Cross pub is excellent. We had sunday lunch there twice all home cooked food and plenty of it. Also well worth a journey was the pub at Slapton sands its predominantly a fish restaurant the landlord catches the fish every day!
Bigbury on sea is a fantastic beach and that really is dog friendly. Its about 5-6 miles from the site. Narrow roads again but after the first couple of days you get used to them.
We would not revisit this site as we felt rather claustrophobic. Many people revisit this site and meet up with regular visitors we discovered from talking to the' regulars' But it wasn't for us

We have just returned from our 4th (week long) stay at Moor View, this clearly shows how much we like it!
The owner is always friendly and very helpful. He will even hand deliver your ordered newspaper, which is very nice.
The site is immaculate and very peaceful. The fully serviced pitches are great.
A well stocked Spar is only about 1/4 mile down the road from the campsite which is very useful, and is opposite the very good California Inn.
The view across to the moor from the site is lovely and there are many pretty places and beautiful sandy beaches to visit in the area. Everyone we have come into contact with in the local shops and restaurants have been very friendly.
We particularly love Bigbury on Sea, Salcome Sands, Kingsbridge and Ashburton. The drive from Ashburton to Widdicombe on the Moor is amazing!
We have had some lovely meals in the area, our favourite this time was at the Ship Inn at Ugborough. The Chinese takeaway in Modbury is really good.
We would thoroughly recommend both the Moor View Site and the area for a really lovely holiday and will definitely visit again, hopefully soon.

We emailed Edward and Liz and they could not be more helpful on arriving at the site. We were greeted by Edward, he took us into the reception and he told us where to find everything and a small shop, he had fresh farm eggs, milk and even asked if we would like to order the news papers and he brought them to the motorhome each morning. Nothing was too much trouble for them
We asked where Tescos / Morrisons and Garages were and we were directed to them and also told what was around and about
We stayed over the New year and we had a brilliant stay. All the facilities were spotless and it was nice to use clean toilets.
This site was one of the best site we have stay on.

We have visited this site for several years - often more than once a year - and have never had a bad experience. It is the friendliest site we have come across, Liz & Ed are the perfect hosts. The site has always been immaculate, the facilities are spotless and the weather has more often than not been great! We will always go back there and have recommended it to friends and family who all agree wholeheartedly with the above.
The negative comments about the approach road to Moor View are unfair. We have visited in tents, caravans, motorhomes and even their lodges and have never had a problem with the access road. As long as you approach the road with the necessary care and competence needed when towing a caravan (as you should on all country roads) then there isn't a problem. It is not single track as indicated by other reviews.
It is a great site within easy striking distance of everywhere in the South Hams whether it be coast or Dartmoor.

I am Edward, my wife Liz and I own Moor View. We've just been reading comments about the road into us being narrow and busy. Please take a look at our website, we publish two routes into us. Route 1 is the shortest but busiest route, and it is Route 1 invariably that suffers from large vehicles using it as a short cut through to Kingsbridge and Salcombe (Using their SatNavs!). Please see the website and look at Route 2 - it is a much better route.
Route 2 is about 15 minutes longer, but it is a much quieter route. As we say on the website, use Route 2 during busier times NOT Route 1.
So why do we have Route 1 and Route 2? Simply because for years Route 1 has been okay, and this is the route that the local council suggest that our customers use and they have even provided signs saying how to find us (Along with The Caravan Club at Broad Park, Camping & Caravanning Club at California Cross and Pennymoor Caravan & Camping Park. ) But because of SatNavs the volume of traffic has increased as has the size of the vehicles - hence we now suggest guests use much easier (but 15 minutes longer) Route 2.

We have just returned from an 8 night stay at this lovely site. Weather wasn't great, but as we caravan all year round this did not detract from our holiday enjoyment.
We stayed on pitch number 24 which was a full service 10mtr pitch and had picturesque views of distant Dartmoor. Following previous negative comments relating to pitch size, we can only state that our pitch was more than adequate for our 24ft caravan & 3/4 awning, yes it's true to say that with an awning our car had to be parked in front of our caravan, but there was an option to park our car in area adjacent to site reception if required.
We did however feel that the site had a 'compact' feel, but felt that this may have been due to the hedges etc between pitches, which tended to give a 'closed in' effect.
As previous reviewers have stated, a means of transport is essential at Moor View as although surrounded by endless beautiful Devonshire countryside, there is very little else within several miles.
If it's peace and tranquillity you seek, this is definitely the site for you.

We were greeted by Edward, an extremely pleasant man, who showed us personally to our pitch. The site is pretty easy to find, there are a lot of brown signs from the A38, and the site, when you book, do send an email with good directions. I must point out that for two miles of the approach road, the B3196, has a two mile stretch that is quite narrow. Although there are passing places, they are not that frequent. For a B road, it is busy enough, with lorries as well as farm traffic.
We did observe that a couple of guests were late to leave, and when we went out for a day trip, we followed one of the caravans; we were caught in 40 mins of near-on stationery traffic, as at this time, two caravans were attempting to arrive.
Our pitch had a lovely view of the moors, the weather was great to watch, rolling mist etc. Though it must be said, that on walking around, it is easy to spot that a few pitches do not benefit from the view we had.
The toilet block was spotless, but one of the four showers, I found I had to keep my hand on the button, as it was only delivering 9 seconds of water in one go. Plus two of the showers are up a step, so something to remember when you have finished.
We had Sunday lunch at the California Cross Inn, whih I recommend; the garden is sunny and nicely laid out. Dogs are allowed in the snug bar.
All in all, a very pleasant and well kept site, but to round up, the approach road was a continual worry, it was the talking point of everyone we talked to, mainly other caravanners, and motorhomers.
Some guests mentioned they were planning on leaving as early as 7am to avoid any chance in getting caught up in traffic on the two mile narrow stretch of road, of which we did witness.
This is a major factor that has decided us not to return. The relief of getting our caravan back onto the A38 was overwhelming.

My wife and I have had a lovely long weekend at Moor view, its our second visit. Like most places in this part of the world the roads are narrow! so the road from the A36 although only a couple of miles long seems like ten, but once you are there you are given a lovely welcome by Liz and Edward. The toilets and showers are kept very clean ( top marks to the cleaner ) and the site itself is well maintained. Modbury is just a few miles away and the nice little sea side village of Bigbury on sea is a little further. My one tip is don't trust your sat nav to get around, the last time we came we ended up going down roads that were too narrow for our car and we were in a Smart car ! We will definitely come again.

I am Edward, who along with my wife Liz own Moor View Touring Park. I have read the review written by Reviewer 'RogMo' and felt that I had to add our objective comments:
Reviewers comments regarding the access road. If you are considering visiting Moor View, may I suggest that you read the reviews for our 3 neighbouring sites, Broad Park - Caravan Club, California Cross - Camping and Caravanning Club. Also Pennymoor who like us is a privately owned park. All of these parks use the same access route. The reviews for these parks present a better and more appropriate description of the access route.
Reviewers comments regarding overflowing bins. Reviewer RogMo arrived on Monday 24th July - our bins are emptied on a Monday, by Monday our bins are full, but not 'overflowing' as we have more than enough capacity and spare containers if required. We encourage recycling and we have the recycling point close to the entrance of the park. Guests can then drop off their rubbish on their way out, and it means that the refuse lorry only has to come in at the gate and not drive round the park. However we shall look to improve the screening of the recycling area and try and make it more attractive.
Reviewers comments regarding the pictures on the website. The name of our park is Moor View, we do not state that all pitches have 'moor views' - the road outside our park is also called Moor View (see Google maps). All of the pictures on our website are genuine pictures and the website photo gallery are simple clear pictures of our park. Review RogMo states that the pictures on the website are very misleading, which is interesting as coincidently pitch 19 the pitch that Review RogMo stayed on, is the exact and same pitch that we use for our picture of a 9m Pitch on our website. We would however point out that the caravan in our picture is a small caravan of the size we recommend rather than a caravan that is larger than we recommend for a 9m pitch.
Reviewers comments regarding all the pitches with the nice views are seasonal pitch. Being blunt, that is not true. We use a total of 64 pitches (licensed for 68), and only 10 of these are seasonal pitches. Our best pitches are used for touring pitches, and some of these have views and some of these don’t.
Reviewers comments regarding allocating a smaller van to a larger pitch, 'which didn't make sense', while their larger van was put on a smaller pitch. The reason for this is because Review RogMo booked a smaller pitch, even though their van was larger than we advise and the owner of the smaller caravan referred to on the larger pitch had booked (and paid the additional cost of) a larger pitch.
We are always sorry when Moor View does not meet expectations. Yes, the road into us (and the 3 other parks mentioned above) is narrow in places. South Devon and the area in which we live are typical Devon lanes, which can be narrow. Our pitches are not as spacious as you find at some of the Club Sites, but we try to balance this off by providing fully serviced, hardstanding pitches at a reasonable and competitive tariff. We accept that being less spacious is not to everyone’s liking, but we are very fortunate in that many of our guests’ return, in fact at any one time between 40% - 60% of guests staying at Moor View have been before and are repeat visitors. We think this level of repeat business is because while our park isn’t perfect, on the whole most guests seem to enjoy staying at Moor View.

We visit many Tranquil Parks throughout the year as we like child free areas, unfortunately this was not one of the better Parks.
The approach road from the A38 to the park which was approx 3 miles was horrendous, single lane most of the way you had to encounter this on a daily basis. There is no mention of this approach in the paper work nor their brochure only to follow the Brown Signs.
We chose this particular park because of the name Moor View and their own website showing views of Dartmoor and spacious pitches also the illustrated pictures on this website and in the tranquil park brochure but these were very misleading in this case.
When we finally arrived at the park our first sight was of overflowing rubbish bins. In the office we met Liz who was very nice and friendly and by the way does a very nice Fish & chip night every Thursday.
We were given out pitch number and map of the park
The park was quiet when we arrived as most people were out for the day.
On making our booking we were asked the length of our caravan and as our caravan is 4 berth and only 22ft long we were allocated a blue pitch No 19 with no View of Dartmoor in fact we had no view at all.
There are a few pitches with nice views of Dartmoor but these seemed to be all allocated for seasonal pitches.
By the time we had got our porch awning up we barely had room to sit or park our car.
Yet in the opposite row the yellow pitches which were 10mtrs there were very small 2 berth caravans which did not make sense.
Immediately at the back of our caravan was the water and grey waste disposal point which was used by those who did not connect their waste.
The roads round the park are very narrow and we were asked 3 times to move our car so other people could move their caravans on and off pitches.
Toilet and shower block was clean and adequate however the shower was a pain! with approx 30sec cut out on the water timer. Also there were no individual washrooms
Most tranquil parks have security gates of some form and time restrictions especially departures unfortunately not on this park.
Edward and Liz were both nice and friendly also the park was peaceful cost wise good value for money as we did get a good discount for the time of year.
