The owner was very pleasant and helpful when booking.
On arrival a lovely grassy field with 5 electric points along the fence, with another separate field to play in if needed.
Two toilets one outside and one in the barn with two showers. I had a lovely hot shower with plenty of room a chair for my things and three hooks. Within the shower barn is a washing up area for campers.
Bins provided and water tap.
Round the back of the main farm house is the lavatory disposal waste point with a hose to wash down.
Children are free to run around the fields and play games ride bikes.
A short way up the Road is Quorn steam/diesel railway. A fantastic chip shop in Quorn Station Rd or St? large portions here so go on the small side!
A short drive takes you to Loughborough Town Centre which has a lovely open park Queens Park with Carillon tower charging £1 to go to the top to see the bells, all donations going towards Military personnel injured during conflict.
We had a lovely weekend here. And will definitely be booking again.

This is a small site on a working farm. The camping field is fairly small, but plenty big enough for the number of campers there were (5 pitches on one night, 2 on the next). EHU pitches are along one side of the field, everyone else can pitch where they like along the other sides of the field. The water tap, toilets, showers and washing up sinks are a very short walk over the farm track and by the farmbouse. The camping field is undulating, as previously mentioned, but we were able to pitch our tent along one of the raised sections so this didn't affect us.
This site was ideal for our needs at the time. Although I did have 3 children with me we really only wanted an inexpensive (it was only £11 a night for 1 adult and 3 kids) but pleasant base in the area while visiting friends. In the limited time we spent at the site, we were quite happy to just watch the sheep and cows and play football on the field. If you are looking for a site with a playground or other activities for children then this might not be for you, but for a short stay it was just right.

Returned to Whatoff Lodge after 18 months to do a one nighter for my daughter's birthday. We also took the dog for it's first site camp too. Glad to see that nothing has changed! This time around I'd contacted Quorn Parish Council in advance and purchased a set of leaflets with walks in the area (£1 for 6). Weather was glorious so we went for a roundabout walk to end up in the village to use the chip shop for tea (lovely chips!) We love this site as it really is relaxed camping. A field, toilets, showers, ehu (if required) and an indoor washing up area all in the price. No hidden extra's.

We have just returned from our second easter stay at whatoff lodge. We received a warm welcome from the owner on arrival. It was fascinating to stay on a working farm and enjoy seeing the sheep with their new born lambs as they were turned out into the field next to ours. With vistas of rolling hills, and set in lovely countryside this is the perfect place to get away from it all. A good place for a meal is the quorndon fox in the village.

We had an appointment in Leicester, so decided to stay for a couple of days, as its 'all year round'.
We live next to a working farm so were prepared for traffic mornings etc. However there was an abundance of car traffic (we the only 'campers') until quite late at night. Around 2-30 am a large dog began to bark & bark, alas coffee pot on as sleep was by now disturbed, then before daylight traffic to & fro the farm began again.
We were required to pitch in a gateway leading to the field, next to the farm drive on a corner, my wife expected the worst. (There had been a deluge for several days so everywhere was waterlogged, with several roads closed off. ) There was a finger pointed in the general direction of the toilets & water point( hose connected laying in mud), we never visited the facilities as they looked uninviting. EHU was close by.
We were quoted £13-50 per night including EHU, however rather than enduring another sleepless night we decided to leave & found the owner to pay. My Wife gave him £20-00 which he took offered no change, said thanks put in his wallet & drove off. A very expensive one night stopover. We even brought our rubbish away as couldn't locate bins.
Overall the Office, facilities & general area looks tired lacking signs & TLC

Management response: As the owner of Whatoff Lodge campsite I would like to comment on this review. As stated it had been raining for days and everywhere was flooded which was why they were offered hard standing in the entrance rather than getting bogged down in a waterlogged field.
Had they visited the facilities instead of using their own, they would have found perfectly inviting hot showers, 2 toilets and an indoor washing up area. We are at a loss as to explain the dog barking. It wasn't ours and there were no other dogs on the site. They were not given change because they said they didn't want any.
We are very sorry that they were disappointed in their stay but as the previous reviews show some people love it here. |

This site is in such an idylic country setting that I almost forgot we were a couple of miles from a major University town. But there is a pub half a mile down the road in Quorn and a convenience store and off license a few minutes further towards Loughborough, so you're not out to reach of any essentials.
We had a couple of horses for neighbours, but I wish I'd thought to ask the owners why there was a portaloo in their field - were they toilet trained?
My rating for child friendliness is a guess, since we didn't have any children. I'm guessing the owners would be as helpful with that as with everything else. On the other hand, it is a working farm with animals and machinery, so I wouldn't want to leave a toddler running around the field.
The facilities are basic but clean and serviceable. The electric hookups are a bit limited, so the owners had to make special arrangements to make sure we had one that weekend: but they did make the effort, with the greatest good will.
I was very happy with this site and will certainly come back.

We would return to Whatoff without hesitation. The welcome was warm and friendly.
Sure, the toilet and showers may have been rustic but they were clean and recently painted.
The setting was lovely and being woken by farm animals was a treat.
If you want to push the boat out for an evening meal, the Manor House is a short walk away.
All round, a great place to stay with plenty on offer in the area.
We do have children but did not take them on this trip but wish we had done because they would have loved it.

We have just returned from a visit to friends staying on this site to try their new van, and we're so glad we didn't book to go too!
I enjoy all aspects of camping and caravanning but even if it is a relatively cheap site. I still expect the very basics to be provided, such as clean toilets and showers and chemical waste disposal facilities! This site has neither. The one toilet / two showers / washing up area - yes all in one place were disgusting, smelly, with no soap or toilet roll provided and freezing cold.
The area is nice and the field is surrounded by pretty views, but be careful where you tread as the owners two dogs use the field as their toilet witnessed as we sat eating lunch! So if you have young children be aware.
It could be a lovely little site with a bit more effort. But we wont be using it as a local weekend retreat, it's a real shame.

Stayed here for one night (Staturday) while we attended a birthday party at the Thatched Inn 3 miles away. The site is lovely small with hook ups and tiolets with shower 1 male 1 female, very clean and warm. There are many walks to do locally, the site has a few farm animals that children will enjoy. The owners were very obliging and because the site was quiet she allowed us to stay latter on the Sunday so we could have lunch with our friends. Very easy to get to from all sites of the compass and an electronic gate allowing access when you want which was helpful to us as we did not come back until after midnight.

We used this as a base for 2 nights as we were visiting family in the area, after reading previous reviews I was a little apprehensive as I am very fussy in the facilities dept. I found them to be adequate considering the price paid for the site! A little dusty/cobwebby etc as said by other reviewers, but not unsanitary at all. My only issue is that there was no soap provided in either toilet for my entire stay, but I did not request any as we had our own hand wash, so if we asked for it, it may well have been provided. Showers were good, free hot water, good pressure in fact Hubby said they were the best showers he has used on a camp site. Lots of hooks and chair etc.
Owners very friendly and approachable, offered lots of local info. The access road was not a problem, a little bumpy and dusty but have seen much worse. Also did hear road noise at night, but only in the background, not a disturbance at all. Plenty of room for ball games and the kids loved the animals in each adjoining field. Considering it is a working farm, we were not bothered by noise and we only saw 1 dog which kept it's distance.(No rats were spotted by us!)
All in all great little place for a get away, fantastic value for money, will go back.
