This was our second visit to this lovely site; and again it didn't disappoint.
After e-mailing the owners to rebook following our Aug 2011 visit they tried their best to let us have our favourite pitch again. And on arriving for the Easter weekend for 4 nights we got pitch number 6 again, which is in the corner and a generous size pitch; we had plenty of room for our 4 man tent with porch and gazebo.
As the other reviews state this is an adult only site made up of 12 pitches all with electric hook-up and tv point and accepts both tents and caravans and allows dogs too.
The shower block was spotless as always and has everything needed. The only minor flaw we encountered was because the weather was so bad and cold the building could have done with having the heating turned on as the showers were cold when getting dressed; although the water was always hot so washing under the powerful water flow was bliss.
Would we return - oh yes with no hesitation.
Thank you to Lorraine and Tony for the Easter card and bag of mini eggs on Easter Sunday with a lovely message for each of us brave souls staying there in the rain.

Lovely small site tucked away on the Welsh/English border. Fantastic facilities-all en suite bathrooms that were beautifully kept. Only twelve pitches which were very spacious. The site was easy to find and easy to get onto your pitch. The grass was kept tidy and so were the bins and chemical disposal area. We had a fully serviced pitch which also included TV hook up. Carol & John were the resident 'helpers' and were extremely friendly. We had mixed weather but found plenty to do. Some great walks even if a bit hilly. There is a shortish walk to nearby Skenfrith Castle straight from the site which was great to blow the cobwebs away. The New Inn served great food at very reasonable prices and had a lovely charm to it. A tiny criticism would be that the shower block was a bit chilly but as long as you didn't dawdle it was not a problem. We will definitely be returning again.

Just had a wonderful 4 night stay over Easter at Three Castles. The site was immaculate, toilets and showers were 5* and very, very clean. This was my first stay at this site and I was so impressed, I have just booked another in August. Great area for walking and nothing is more than 11 miles away. The only downside (for some), my O2 mobile signal was rubbish which meant I couldn't be contacted - Oh what bliss!
A big thank you to the owners for the card and Easter eggs on Easter Sunday morning, thank you to the wardens for being really healpful and thank you to Ed for your fresh free-range eggs at £1 per half dozen.
Thoroughly contented

We have just returned from a fantastic 5 night stay at The Three castle caravan site.
On arrival we were met by Karen & John who were very welcoming & helpful. The site is well kept & peaceful.
The shower block is of the highest quality & very clean. In the Shower block there is good information about local attractions, TV room, washing up and washing facilities.
On Easter Sunday we received a card & Easter eggs which just goes to show the detail that the owners give to their visitors.
We shall be returning to this site as it is top notch.

Just returned from this small peaceful site in our folding caravan. The facilities are first class, apart from the odd spider.
Wardens could not have been more helpful and we enjoyed our daily visits from Max the dog.
Excellent shops in nearby Monmouth, and the Angel pub at Grosmont, 4 miles up the road, is to be recommended for food and drink. The locals are very friendly and welcoming.
Please be aware that this is an Orange mobile signal black spot, it makes for a peaceful break though.
We shall definitely be returning in the future.

Absolutely beautiful area of the UK to visit in stunning rural location. Lots of local places to visit, we ventured a bit further too into Cardiff and Hereford.
Campsite not recommended for those people who don’t have or want a dog sat with them constantly. My husband, who really doesn’t like dogs was put off by having Max sat licking his bits while we were trying to cook and although Little Max the 15 year old terrier was a pleasant and friendly dog we weren’t impressed that we found two pieces of dog poo on our pitch on arrival and various others on the field during our stay. Because of this alone we won’t return to this site.
Shower block new and the concept was a great idea, but it was filthy. My husband emptied the mop bucket to find a thick layer of sludge in the bottom. The bucket had obviously not been cleaned in months. We both spent a good half hour cleaning one of the shower rooms and only used that one for the duration of our stay. Having said this we didn’t let it bother us and were pleased that there was always plenty of hot water,
There were lots of cobwebs, especially above the area where the hair dryer was, and the window in the washing area was filthy.
The laundry and washing up facilities were nice and we never had to queue to use any facilities.
We did not meet any of the owners, only a couple who were staying in a caravan and helping out on the campsite.
All in all, we loved our holiday BUT the following things spoilt what could be an idyllic place to stay:
• Dogs were allowed to roam free (including the owner's dogs) with the inevitable results of dog poo on the camping field.
• Facilities Dirty
• Although plenty of information leaflets on tourist attractions, no info on where the local shop/pub/petrol station was.
• Our pitch had an apple tree on, looked lovely but meant the tent was full of wasps, this improved when we picked up rotten apples off the floor (this should have been done before we arrived)
The Positives where:
• Lovely Rural Location
• Reasonable Sized Pitches
• Large bathroom style shower rooms
• TV Room with book exchange
• Nice local pubs (drive though, the roads are too dangerous to walk along)
In all the site wasn't bad but I don't think it's for us so won't be visiting again, Just wish the facilities had been cleaner and the owner cleaned up after their dog.

Stayed here August bank holiday weekend to test out our new tent and equipment. We were on plot 6 which was very spacious and had plenty of room for our tent, porch, and gazebo.
The site is adult only which meant it was lovely and quiet; the only noise we had was running water in the stream, birds and the occasional car on the road which runs alongside.
The facilities were great and kept very clean, set in the centre of the 12 pitches it was a few yards from each one, so you weren't disturbed with people walking past. There is three spacious shower rooms each one with its own toilet, vanity area and powerful shower; and a fourth separate toilet; so we never found ourselves having to queue up and wait.
There is a washing up area and separate lounge area.
Max, the owners extremely friendly 15 year old terrier, was always around to make sure you weren't lonely and loves barbecue chicken!
All in all a lovely break;
We have already rebooked for our return camping weekend for Easter 2012.

We picked this site mainly because it is an adult only site. Was very impressed by the pictures on the website as well.
Site is very small which is perfect for us as we don't like a lot of noise from other campers, especially being in a tent.
We were on pitch 11 which backed onto the road. The main traffic noise is from the tractors going past, it was annoying at first, but we got used to it. The setting is beautiful and apart from the odd bit of traffic noise, is very peaceful.
The facilities are wonderful, 3 large shower rooms with toilet and sink and a separate toilet. The washing-up area has 2 sinks and a freezer and microwave for all guests to use. There is a small room with a t. V. And comfy chairs and finally a room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
Everyone was very helpful and welcoming.
We will definitely be going back.
Oh yes, nearly forgot to mention the famous Max, what a star, he tended to gravitate to us as we don't have a dog. He might be old, deaf and slow on his paws, but his sense of smell is working just fine. Make sure you put extra on the bbq for Max.

We cannot add much more about this site than has already been said. The facilities are 5 Star plus. Despite the site being full towards the end of our stay we did not have to queue for loo’s or washing up facilities. All in all we can not see how Tony & Lorraine can improve the site.
As previously commented there is some traffic noise, which is unfortunate, as it disturbs the tranquillity of the place. However this is generally confined to going to work & coming home time.
It was great that there is no Orange phone signal. This added to the peace and quiet. There is a nearby back lane that is a pleasant walk to the Bell pub this takes about 20 min each way, but to be honest the “traditional pub”, The Angel at Grosmont is more to our liking.
Nearby we found Abergavenny a really pleasant town which has most things including a really great traditional butchers shop, Rawlings. This is on a street leading to the newly completed Brewery Car Park. He is well worth a visit – he really does sell excellent meat!
Within an hour’s drive is the Brecon Mountain Railway which operates steam. Standing on the veranda at the end of the coaches greatly enhances the involvement I felt, including a few coal smuts! We also visited Big Pit which was excellent, and free of charge. We found some elements of the day we spent there very humbling.
Finally, we appreciated the relaxed approach Tony & Lorraine had towards departure time. It was great not to feel under time pressure due to the relaxed rules on site.
We cannot end this review without mentioning Max, who is a delightful and friendly dog, and who greatly enjoyed his treats from our barbecue!
We will return.

Absolutely beautiful site in stunning rural location. It was lovely to hear the babbling of the stream and the distant farmyard sounds of sheep and cows. Little Max the 15 year old terrier was a complete delight and it was wonderful watching him visit all the people on site that didn’t have a dog but unfortunately we didn’t have the pleasure of a personal visit as we had our dog with us. Apparently he doesn’t like competition!
The showers were to die for and surely the best on any campsite in the UK. They were so spacious we felt a bit guilty taking up the space on our own. They were truly luxurious with lovely hot water and spotlessly clean.
The laundry and washing up facilities were also spotless. We didn’t really venture too far off site as the purpose of this short 2 night visit was to test out our new awning but there are some lovely walks in the vicinity and the village of Skenfrith is about a mile away.
The TV signal here is very poor but there are TV points on the EHU’s but you will need a TV cable. Due to the remoteness of the location I could not get a broadband signal on my dongle or my mobile phone. That just adds to the lovely feeling of getting away from it all but if you need to be contactable this site may not be for you.
We only met one of the owner’s Tony who was so helpful and went beyond the call of duty. On the Friday evening he went on the ‘fish and chip run’ and collected everyone’s food for them as the van stops in the nearby village about 3 miles away.
Also when we had a few problems with our awning getting tangled in an overhead tree, Tony was first out with the step ladder and shears. There is no shop on site and the owners live right opposite. I think they ought to consider selling a few essentials either from their house or with an honesty box set up. With all the local farmers nearby, I think some local produce would go down a storm.
The only negatives I would point out about this site is that if you are a sun worshipper, ask not to be allocated pitches 4 or 5 as due to their position and the tall trees behind the pitches they are in the shade most of the day until about 6. 30pm so can feel a bit chilly. Also considering the country location I was surprised at the traffic noise from the road behind which is quite busy but didn’t distract from the lovely time we had.
To summarise this is a lovely, small and intimate, well kept, relaxing, friendly adult only site that is excellent value for money. We will definitely return.
