Just spent a night at this fabulous little campsite. It appears to have been very recently updated, the facilities looking very new and modern. They are placed in the middle of the field meaning you are never more than 20 paces from the loo (very handy for campers when the 3 o-clock in the morning call comes!).
There are three very large shower rooms, as opposed to ladies and gents. Disabled access is excellent. The showers and washing up facilities are free, there is a washing machine which you pay for as normal. There is a freezer with complimentary ice packs while yours are re-freezing. Also in the building is a small seating area with a free book exchange.
The site is by a road but don't let that put you off, I reckon no more than about 6 cars go passed in an hour when its busy. This part of the world is very popular with motorbikes but even they were few and far between.
Very pleasant welcome when we arrived and then a personal check from the 'senior' warden, Max, every 20 mins or so to make sure we were OK (Max is the owners 12 year old terrier, just in case you were wondering).
We will definitely be going back there, next time to actually go out and see some of the wonderful scenery, walk to the castles etc.
For caravan owners (we also have a caravan so look out for these things as well), every pitch has modern electric hookup (not sure what amps) and about half are fully serviced. The entrance is nice and easy to swing into and each pitch is level (some slightly slopping back and forwards but no side to side levelling) required). Check you route before going as the road we came on, via Monmouth got quite narrow. If you come via Abergavenny the road is much better for caravans.
There's no shop on site (you wouldn't expect it for only 12 pitches) but on Sunday morning a man turned up in a van to sell Sunday papers. Mobile phone coverage is probably limited (no O2) but this is a good thing, right!? TV reception might be an issue, the houses had very large aerials on the roof.
For any cyclists reading this, superb cycling country, take your bike.

The Three Castles is a smallish site but this makes it all the more special. Amenities are all 'new' and very clean. Owners Tony and Lorraine are very friendly and helpful and Max the dog is a happy little chap who likes to pop and say hello and keep his eye on things.
The surrounding area has lots to offer with stunning scenery, fantastic walks with Ross and Monmouth nearby. The site is very peaceful and a 'smashing little find'. We will definitely be back! Craig, Lyn and Holly the dog.

We have just returned from a weekend at the Three Castles Site and had to write to say what a fantastic find this site is. It is a small site with 12 pitches all set around the edge with the toilet block central placed. There are 6 serviced pitches and 6 EHU pitches, along with a CDP (hubby does this so didn’t see what it was like).
The toilet facilities are the best I have seen with three shower rooms containing a toilet, basin and shower (one of which is a disabled access room). There are enough hooks for keeping clothes and towels dry, the shower is really a wet room with loads of space and there is a decent sized basket in the shower for all the bottles of shampoo / gel you may need to use. All rooms have a shaving socket and hand dryer.
There is a separate toilet with basin, shaving socket and hand dryer. All of the shower rooms/toilet had hand wash, cotton wool, face wipes and hand cream (a very pleasing extra).
Inside the toilet block is a washing up room, a little lounge with settees and books (great if in a small tent), a laundrette (I didn’t check on prices) along with a boot drying room.
Pitches are of a good size and the owner is very helpful for those who are not so good reversing onto pitches (that would be me).
As a base for exploring, the site is situated equidistant from Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Abergavenny and Monmouth. It is also handy for the Three Castles Trail (hence the name).
It is a short walk (just under a mile) to Skenfrith and the castle which is well worth a look and The Bell has an excellent reputation for food and is also a pub. An easy walk back through the lanes for those who like to wine and dine – just remember to take a torch!
It is a quiet, adult only site with no shop (although a newspaper van came around Sunday morning so if he could just come on a Saturday too that would be great), so being organised is necessary unless you are heading to explore then you will find shops / supermarkets in all the local towns / cities.
A site well worth a visit and I can’t wait to go back.
