This site is a little gem. The hosts are Tony and Lorraine, who are lovely. The facilities are outstanding, with roomy showers (more like wet rooms), laundry room and washing up room. The pitches are set up around the central block, which looks a bit like a bungalow, so not offensive to look at. We camped in a roomy corner of the site and set our awning up to face towards the river which babbled away in the background. Max, an elderly terrier, adopted us and took us for a walk from the site to Skenfrith.
Tony and Lorraine's policy is not to have notices up saying 'Don't do this' or 'Don't do that' which is really refreshing, preferring to talk to each person individually. There are lots of brochures in the little TV lounge, and some used paperbacks too. There is no shop on site, so head for Broadoak where there is a garage that doubles as a well stocked village shop. The church in Skenfrith has cakes for sale with an honesty box, and while there is no shop there during the week there is a community shop there at weekends where you can buy local produce from people's gardens, homemade jam and chutney, as well as ice cream and hot drinks.
Grosemont castle is lovely, but the post office is not as well stocked as the garage in Broadoak - the only bread there is frozen. There is a tea room 'Gentle Jane's' where the owner is far from gentle - she adamantly refused to sell an ice cream cone with 2 flavours, saying there was no demand for it despite having two customers who clearly wanted to buy such an ice cream. She grudgingly offered us two flavours in a dish and overcharged us (it cost £7.70 for four scoops of ice-cream). When we queried this she said the menu price was wrong. The ice cream was lovely but did not make up for the bossy owner.
The fish and chip van calls at the site on Friday evening, and a van brings Sunday papers. Waitrose supermarket is in Monmouth, and there is a Tesco in Abergavenny - if you are arriving late on Friday make sure you have milk and bread for breakfast.
This is the quietest site we've ever stayed on and cannot recommend it enough.

Had a wonderful stay. The facilities were excellent, the site was clean no rubbish anywhere and the grass mown short. Lorraine and Tony were very welcoming on arrival even though we were slightly early and couldn't have been more friendly and concerned for your stay to be all that you wanted and called each day to see if everything was okay for you.
As for Max the Jack Russell Terrier he checked on us regularly to make sure we were alright and the day we stayed on site all day he was quite happy enjoying the sunshine with us.
All of the other site users were very friendly a reflection of the atmosphere that Lorraine, Tony and Max create.
The only thing we could have wanted was local shop and restaurant suitable for mobility scooter to get to easily. That is no reflection on the site position was very quiet, just for our personal requirements.
Will definitely be returning, one on the very short list of excellent sites that we will go back to.

Excellent site. Very quiet suits those who prefer quiet and pleasant surroundings.
Facilitates are of a very high standard, the site although small (12 pitches)has all the services you need. Tony is very helpful. Max (the dog) is very friendly and welcoming.! Obviously the site is dog friendly!
The pitches are well sized and provide a variety of placements.
We stayed for 5 days and were very settled on the site.
The nearest shop is at the garage about a 2 miles away. However there is a wide variety of local shops and a large supermarket in nearby Abergavenny.
Would recommend!

Recently returned from a weekend here. Very quiet well kept site. The toilet/shower block is exceptional. There are spacious wet rooms which are all spotlessly clean. In a lovely spot with beautiful countryside. There was a misunderstanding with our booking which we hadn't realised and we received a phone call on our return and a refund in the post the next day.
Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again.

This is a really beautiful site, the washroom facilities are excellent. It is a very quiet area, you do need a car to get to the shops etc, but the view is lovely and if the weather is nice just sit and soak it up. There is a great cider maker a few miles down the road. Also one of the castle ruins is only a few miles away and this is free to visit. There is a separate dog walking field which is handy.
The site is close to the road, but there is the odd tractor and that is it, it is really peaceful.
This was only our second trip out in the caravan, but think we will find it hard to find such a great site. Good value for money, been on a couple of outing since and this site is better than some charging far more.
The owners where really lovely, would highly recommend if you want a great getaway for the noise and bussle of the normal sites.

We have just returned from spending an excellent week at this campsite. On arrival we were greeted by Max who is a very friendly dog, followed by Tony who explained all about the site and even offered help in parking the caravan as I am new to towing. It was quite quiet when we arrived and Tony let us pick our own pitch which was great. As previous people have said, the shower and toilet block is new and very well finished. It is very spacious, lots of hot water with no meter. Loads of hooks for clothing and towels. There are also lots of nice things like face wipes, hand cream, cotton wool buds/balls and nice hand soap.
The chemical disposal and bin area is around the back away from the block entrance.
The pitches are well laid out with plenty of space in between. The grounds are well kept and it is obvious that Tony and Lorraine have put a lot of hard work and thought into this site when they were building it. They are lovely, helpful people who deserve to be successful.
The site is out of the way for shops but there is a garage only a couple of miles away in Broad Oak that sells lots of things and the main shops in Hereford, Abergavenny and Monmouth are all only a 15 - 30 minute drive away. There are lots of really nice walks taking in the castles, we were fortunate enough to be accompanied on our walks to Skenfrith by Max as we don't have our own dog, it was great to have him with us. He also visits all the pitches through the day but has been well trained not to go in the caravans. There is a really good pub in Skenfrith call The Bell and it is only about a mile away through the lane.
I would highly recommend this campsite for whenever you want to visit this area. It is so good, that it is worth driving the extra few miles. We will certainly be going back there.

Just got back from a wonderful week at Three Castles, the weather was not on our side with rain every day - but it really didn't dampen our stay.
I've been camping for many years and I have to say this really is the very best campsite I have ever stayed in, I simply cannot fault it in any way.
Upon arriving, we were promptly greeted by Tony, who made sure we had everything we needed and gave us some orientation on both the campsite and the local area. We then received lots of help from Max, Tony and Lorraine's dog - we made good friends with him and he was always pleased to see us and find out what we were cooking for tea.
The site itself has just 12 pitches, arranged around the central shower and toilet block - every pitch is extremely well sized and has 16amp EHU and TV hookups too. The ground has hardstanding for caravans / motorhomes and grassy areas for tents etc. The ground was easy to peg and drained very well. Tony has carefully put a slight gradient into the pitches to allow water to run away, but you do not notice the gradient and roll downhill in bed
The shower block is second to none! The building has only recently been completed and is finished to a standard that you would be happy with in your own home. There are three shower rooms that include a toilet and handbasin and the showers themselves are nice spacious walk-in 'wet rooms'. There was always plenty of hot water, no timers or 50p meters here. In addition to the shower rooms, there is another toilet, laundry room, boot drying room and a lounge area with TV and book exchange.
Accessed from just outside the shower block, there is a washing up area with two sinks, hot running water and also a freezer with ice block exchange.
The attention to detail was excellent, there were washing up essentials, good quality hand soaps, hand cream and face wipes.
Outside of the site, you do have to travel a bit to find shopping etc, but Monmouth and Abergavenny are only 15-20 mins away, its worth visiting the Tea Rooms on the Grosmont road, its an unusual experience, but the cream teas are just to die for - we had one each and should have shared. They also have a great lunch menu, although we didn't try this. The distance to the shops is the only reason I did not give 10/10 for the location - we're townies and like to have the shops nearby - that said the in the 'middle of nowhere' location makes it special.
Abergavenny has a good range of shops and Monmouth has a Waitrose which was handy for our cooking essentials. Further up the road you can go to Hereford where there is a large Asda 24 hour supermarket.
During our stay, we discovered how well positioned we were to explore both the Brecon Beacons and the Forest of Dean, both of which are incredibly picturesque and should experienced - I just hope you have better weather than we did.
I really cannot recommend this site enough, this their first year of trading and I truly wish them every success as I have never met people who deserve it more - fantastic site, fantastic people - book yourself in!

This is a charming site in a lovely part of the country. It’s a small site, with generous pitch sizes, on a quiet country road, and is bounded by a stream on two sides. It’s very peaceful here.
There is a tiny village about a 20 minute walk away which is well worth a visit. It has a pub which sells gourmet food and there is a quaint shop run by volunteers. There are the substantial remains of Skenfrith castle and St. Bridget’s church which are well worth seeing. About a 15 minutes drive away, there is the very pleasant town of Monmouth for all your shopping needs.
A bit further afield there is the market town of Abergavenny, and our best recommendation is a visit to Tintern abbey and village.
We never use site toilets ourselves as we prefer our own facilities. However, Tony the owner was so proud of his new toilet block, that he wanted to show us: The toilet and shower facilities are brand new and excellent, and consist of full wet rooms with toilet, shower, basin and mirrors, hand washing soap and hand cream are also provided.
The chemical waste point is hidden away nicely. There are also good recycling facilities on site. Vodafone and O2 mobiles didn't work here and we couldn't get any TV through our caravan aerial although TV hookup is provided on the EHU posts.

A gem of a site, for adults only so plenty of peace. Excellent facilities, previously described and very friendly and helpful owners, who are justifiably proud of their site.
Stream running alongside provides a great soundtrack.
Large pitches, well laid out.
There's even an indoor lounge with a TV if that's your thing.
We will definitely be going again to this wonderful part of Wales with its rolling scenery and interesting villages.

We booked this site without really knowing what to expect as there were no reviews posted and we take great care to read other people's opinions of sites before booking. We needn't have worried as it is a real gem. We were four couples all of a certain age (40 plus!)and everyone was very pleased with the site.
Pitch sizes are generous and flat and the shower and toilet block is virtually brand new. The standard of tiling and fittings are excellent. There are three wash rooms named after the local castles and they all have wc, sink and wet room shower set ups.
We regularly sat outside the tent admiring the view with a beer or two in hand. There is not much around locally except for the Bell Inn at Skenfrith which is very nice and more of an eatery than a pub. Main courses for around £17 per head. We had great weather which really helps and the local stream acted very nicely as a fridge.
Tony the owner and Max his dog came around on regular patrols and both are very friendly and welcoming. Tony even helped me (did all the work actually) fix our blow up bed that had developed an overnight hole.
The price at £17 per night inc EHU is very good value for money and as one of our group said 'it was a pleasure to pay'
We will be back and just hope that there is room for us as when word gets out that this is such a nice place there may be a waiting list!
