This is my 5th year of staying at West Bay and I absolutely love the place.

Caravan was a private hire one and was fantastic. I have stayed in the site ones but I find private ones are cleaner and you get more extras for less than staying direct.

Site clean and food lovely. The only problem we encountered was when we went for a cooked English breakfast on the last day of the holiday and they had run out of 'bacon, eggs, sausage, tomatoes, and hash browns' they were apparently trying to find some and would take my order but I had to wait and they didn't know how long it would take. Needless to say we didn't place an order.

This time there has been a change in the faces at West Bay and some of the newcomers looked as though they didn't really want to be there and that they didn't enjoy their jobs working with the kids, which its a bit ironic when you are a children's entertainer on the site. They also closed the soft play area from 4 till 7 which they hadnt done in previous years. This was always a good time to take the kids in and get them worn out ready for bed.

Overall another fab holiday at West Bay!

West Bay is a nice place. The harbour is great for crabbing, we spent the day there and caught over 40 crabs the kids will love it. The walks along the cliff top are brilliant the views are amazing.

A great base to explore the surrounding areas Lyme Regis is well worth a visit.

Now to the site. The club, cafe etc are ok usual holiday entertainment, younger kids will love it. We booked a star pitch, these were hard standing and fitted caravan, awning and car but not much area to sit out. The grass pitches look bigger.

The toilets were reasonably clean and there is a warden looking after the touring area. The down side was the warden has a couple of days off a week and no one covers this and of course the hot water went in the showers and then later on the lights went. So if you wanted a shower it was cold and in the dark! This was sorted the day after when the warden returned.

Just got back from this superb site.

Ideal for visiting Lyme Regis 9miles, Weymouth via coastal route 21 miles.

Touring area well set out with every pitch separated by little fence with pitch number attached so no confusion. We stayed on hardstanding and pegs went in very easily. Showers were again superb but wife says that women or girls were dumping empty shampoo bottles anywhere. Facilities on site were good but shop was overpriced, Morrison's only 5 mins away. Only downfall we found was the waste bins not being emptied daily as it was a school holiday and site was full as was the bins to the point of overflowing

Will be going back next year as one site very close to beach, best get beach shoes as small shale beach, and good walks at night around harbour, if you wanted a relaxing holiday and didn't want to use your car but just sit on a beach this site is a must

Our second summer holiday stay at West Bay. Similar experience to previous reviewers - arrived on site after nearly 5 hours travelling to be told that our unit was too big for the pitch and they couldn't offer us an alternative pitch.

Whilst the TT fitted one way, the wardens told us we couldn't pitch that way and we had to visit reception to gain permission to pitch. We had notified the booking staff about the size of our TT when booking the pitch but at one stage it looked like they weren't going to allow us to stay. Not the best way to start a holiday!

There are, however, many good points to recommend this site and give us reason to return 2 years running. The facilities on site are excellent with the children's clubs and swimming pool and it is just a short walk from the harbour where kiosks sell the most delicious ice creams and fish & chips.

The area is not over-developed at all yet adequately caters for the tourist. We liked the little touches like a daily weather forecast on a board outside the wardens hut (which also doubles as a small shop) and free use of hairdryers.

The site is clean & tidy with the camping area separate to the statics but not an afterthought. The main downsides to the site are small pitch sizes with little thought to car parking arrangements, the site is steeply terraced meaning a long slog back from the toilet block to the top terrace, and the price.

We have always chosen to camp on sites that offer the full range of facilities in case of wet weather but found that we weren't making full use of the site despite the weather. It is probably good value considering it's location if you also make good use of the kids clubs, swimming pool and entertainment.

Stayed for a week,2 adults 2 under 10's, on the top tier of site. Not too bad a walk.

Toilets clean, showers ok, shower curtain that does stop clothes getting wet but when closed leaves you no room to move, catch 22? Good family room.

Site clean. Facilities good. Pool great with a fun run on certain days. Club house a little small for site size, prices ok but layout not good really. Entertainment ok. Park good. Launderette expensive. Shop pricey but Morrisons 2 miles away. Had carvery, meat lovely but veg was nasty and flies were landing on meat!

Pitch was very small. They are very strict on how you pitch, accommodation to left, awning then car, but we were told to pitch camper at back, awning to front car to side. No room for car to side when neighbours arrived and later after we pitched and set up were told off by warden, even though we had been instructed by the other warden to pitch this way, and I had a diagram they had drawn! I sent her away with tail between her legs!

West Bay itself is a nice small bay, not many shops, plenty of food huts for chips but that's about your lot. Site is ok.

Our first timers with our tent. Stayed for 4 days on this site. West Bay is a very quiet spot but the site did have entertainment. This was good but when it was really busy the room can seem very small. Didnt use the pool. It looked ok but very busy. Toilet/shower blocks were fine. Cleaned regularly. Pitches are very small and not very private. They are set on levels going up a hill so be prepared for a steep walk if you are at the top just to get to the toilets. Staff were friendly enough. Cooked our own food but the bars were ok. Shop on site but Morrisons just up the road. Close to beach but it is very sharp shingle. Not ideal for bathing or young children. All in all though cant really fault site.

We visited this site in July 09 in our trailer tent and as previously mentioned the pitches are a bit tight. That said, the pitch we had was nice and close enough to the shower block. Some further up the hill would have been a bit of a trek and we did see some tents that were a bit squashed in. That said we were warned about this when booking.

The toilets and showers were kept clean during a busy time and the showers were powerful and warm.

We didn't use the entertainment in the evening but did try the kids clubs and the teenage club. The club for my 7 year old wasn't very good at all and seemed an attempt to keep the kids sat down drawing for 1.5 hours. The teenagers went once but didn't return so not particularly recommended. The pool however was a big hit with all 3 kids age 7,10,12.

West Bay itself isn't that big but has a large pebblely beach. The sea has strong currents and not that much life guard cover so not particularly safe. The coastal walks are superb though and the kids enjoyed the fossil hunting.

All in all, this site is OK but we have previously used the other Parkdean site at Sandford and found that to have better facilities and be more central.

Our family are hardened campers, but once a year I succumb to a little luxury & have now been to this site 2 years running in a privately hired static caravan. The touring/ camping area is on terraced areas that rise up at the back of the site, but still within staggering distance of the bar & entertainment. Had a nosey round the facilities and all looks good. Have made a note of this site for camping in the future.

The family friendly site offers good quality evening entertainment and access to a small but nice pool with a slide that my 8 year old lad loved, both for a small priced entertainment pass.

Excellent location for fishing as West Bay is at the opposite end of Chesil Beach from Portland. Me and my lad hammered the fish here most days from the shingly beach & harbour, much to the delight of the wife!, and even enjoyed a couple of sessions mackerel bashing off a boat called 'Dawn Mist' (Hugh Fearnley-wotshisname uses her) booked via the tackle shop on the corner in West Bay.

Other things we have done, apart from fishing!: Weymouth is a lovely town, park at the ferry terminal for a short walk to your usual town centre shops & a beautiful sandy beach. Also been to Guernsey from here on the Fastcat, good fun and boy does it go fast; Just past Weymouth is the Tank Museum & Monkey World next to each other both good days out but a bit pricey we thought; in the opposite direction from West Bay you have Charmouth Beach for fossil hunting & charmouth market on a Monday; Lyme Regis with another quality beach & seafront; then there is Pecorama, for the kids & model train buffs, very good value & a good day out. Also a 1/2 hour walk through the back of the site there is Bridport with it's small town shops etc & a Witherspoons Pub for good quality Real Ale & Pub food at a reasonable price.

Food: didn't eat out much but the meals on site looked excellent value for money & we did venture out to the Clock House Inn on the main road towards Charmouth for a '2 for £10' deal, very good meal. We also had some excellent fish & chips from the kiosks around the the harbour at West Bay.

We really like this site, but will give the fish a rest for a few years now & maybe return with our tent!

After leaving a site where we were practically kicked off at 10am! we had to find somewhere else nearby and we came across this site and what a difference! Very friendly welcome at reception, great facilities, and Mel and Bev the touring wardens were a great couple, very helpful and friendly. We ate in the restaurant on a couple of occasions (very nice carvery on Sunday)the prices in the bar were the cheapest in the town! and a great atmosphere all round right down to the security guy on the door and the cleaners.Very well stocked shop. The only downside is the noise of the seagulls and they can be quite aggressive, but heyho that's what you get when you stay near the seaside. We are going back this weekend with the rest of the family (including dog). Keep up the good work west bay!

West Bay is a holiday site, set on the side of a hill, the 130 or so pitches are tiered, 5 high. The hill will need to be taken into account if you are not good on your legs. We visit this site 8 or 9 times a year for weekends away and the kids love it.

The facilities are good, the Swimming pool which is free to park users is open to the general public and will get busy during the summer, the life guards watch the numbers that they allow in.

The shop is adequate but on the expensive side, there is a Morrisons in Bridport 2 miles up the road, so we tend to shop there.

The entertainment is great, the entertainment complex’s is a little small for the size of the site during peak times, but there are two bars the second is a relaxing lounge area with a decked area outside, very nice just to sit outside with a drink on a hot day knowing that the kids are safely playing in the play area on the equipment or in the amusement park.

West Bay is a delightful harbour side village with small kiosk type shops; a pub and shelled beach (keep your foot ware on.) One down side no digital TV so take the satellite dish and box if you need more then four channels
