We have just spent a really enjoyable Easter break at West Bay.

West Bay is a large site with mainly static caravans, and has a well stocked shop and large club / bar building at the entrance. The club was typical of large busy sites and you needed to be there early to get a table as it was very popular. The entertainment was very good and although there was a kids session in the first part of the evening, we would have preferred slightly more for the kids. There were plenty of staff on the bar and I never had a long wait. If you prefer not to spend your evening in the club, you will become very aware when it closes as there sheer number of people returning to their accommodation does cause a little noise and whilst most were also topped up with alcohol, we didn't experience major problems. We didn't find any major groups of teenage gangsters roaming the site either.

The touring field is terraced as it is quite a hill which faces towards the sea and so can be breezy. We had EHU and so were on the lower pitches. Our pitch was only just big enough to take our Montana 12 and Side Canopy so it must have been about 8m x 7m max which felt a little small. Luckily we had an end pitch and so were able to sneak onto the grass alongside to park the car on. Our pitch was flat at first glance, but in fact sloped and we found that we all fell off our airbeds during the night, but this wasn't a major problem. The touring field suffered a few problems with the electricity supply during our stay (we had a letter on arrival to warn us) as apparently Easter is the highest load time with most people running heaters and the site full. The staff did all they could to solve the problems and even had electricians on-site from the power supply company on Easter Sunday.

The single toilet block was very nice, clean and tidy. The Gents side has been refurbished over the winter following a fire so they were still fixing the odd snag, but nothing major. I did find cause to complain that it was in need of a clean on one day (mainly due to messy people and a water leak that is apparently in hand) and by the time I had walked back from reception there were 3 members of staff in there sorting it out so I can't complain. The showers were free and we never had to queue at all.

The swimming pool is lovely and the life guards were very safety conscious and on the ball. Almost too much, but then I prefer that to the other alternative. We never found the pool too busy which surprised us when the weather wasn't really up to sitting on the beach.

There is an excellent outdoor play area which was very popular with our kids.

Considering our visit was over a very busy bank holiday, we found the site to be very well run with plenty of staff on duty. All of the staff I had contact with were very helpful and co-operative. We have no complaints.

West Bay itself was very nice, although quite small, yet attracted so many people during the day (day trippers?) that they were like ants around the harbour at times. We enjoyed the climb up to the cliffs and cliff walks which head in both directions from the seafront. In warm weather the beach would be very nice.

We enjoyed two meals in the Bridport Arms Hotel on the Harbour, which whilst not the cheapest option was very good. Also worthy of a mention is the Harbour Cafe which is also very good.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at West Bay and would return there again, although this is a busy, large site and not what we would usually choose - it was ideal for Easter when the weather is so unpredictable.

Had a wonderful October 1/2 term holiday here with the kids. It's a lovely site with almost as many squirrels as people. A large site and because the touring pitches are quite high up overlooking the sea it does get very windy. We had contistent rain and it did get very muddy but I'm sure it's fine most of the time. Pool is wonderful and the childrens entertainment is fantanstic too. There is a large entertainment bar which does get very busy in the evenings but a couple of smaller bar areas too and a conservatory and games room with pool table. All it all a great sight for families and not too pricey. Shower block is reasonable I've seen better and much worse too. 9/10 all around

Stayed on this site for 4 days, found it clean and tidy. Good pitch sizes althought the caravans looked rather packed in on the site. Tiles in the shower blocks need to be updated. Downside was that the swimming pool is open to the public - seems strange when you are paying for this facility. (Could understand in the winter months doing this.)

Site okay for family fun, we found it too big. Just two of us, showers and toilets clean. We were on lower level of camping field, grass was very long, bit of a pain when weather is wet. However we enjoyed our stay. The weather was awful while we were here but we were sheltered, the caravans on the higher levels lost their awnings.
There is an excellent fish and chip shop opposite site camp shop. I did try not to mention the site camp shop as it closed "when it felt like it" and opened the same as well, not particularly tidy or clean.
Not too impressed with West Bay had reconstuction of harbour in progress so very dusty and busy with site traffic. However toilets are plentiful and if the sun had shone I am sure we would have loved it!!

On taking our caravan for only the 2nd time we where very excited to go to west bay. on arrival we enjoyed what we saw the site was very welcoming. Reception were very welcoming although they had sent us confirmation we did not receive it.
Anyway on arrival we had been allocated a plot on the first level. West bay is a beautiful harbour village and although they are rebuilding the prom this didnt spoil it. It wasn't explained to us that with your pass the swimming is free!! but after finding this out enjoyed swimming. The only complaint we had was my partner slipped on a floor in the baths but no-attendant came to help and when I asked for help they just said leave it an hour if it still hurts go to hospital at Dorchester??? no accident book to fill in nothing.
Site club was very good with a young lad, Dave, being very good children's entertainer. The general entertainment was good.
We went on holiday with two kids age 10 and 12, they did get bored easily.
We only booked for 4 days but that was enough although it was very enjoyable but the hills driving there nearly killed us.
The showers also were too hot to enjoy as the valve went and when the plumber got there they couldn't fix it, it was left freezing cold.
The people next to us also booked in April got there to find their pitch had been taken?? but over all we enjoyed it.

We stayed at West Bay Holiday Park and we were pleasantly surprised with the tiered pitches with views across the bay. Overall this site is one I would recommend to most. The pitches are served by one toilet, shower, washing-up block which unfortunately is very busy at peak times, mostly the washing-up facilities which are served by three sinks, on the upside the toilets were always very clean and tidy, with two chaps walking round the site acting as a litter squad. The site is situated right in the middle of West Bay itself, so it's only a short stroll from the beach and harbour. The harbour is currently under redevelopment and building work is currently well underway, when the work is finished it will be a major improvement.

First time camping, weather great, which I suppose helps a little.
Site very good for our needs, two children. Swimming pool and club house gives the place a typical holiday camp feel. Scenery stunning, beach two minutes walk, all shingle. Pier area resembles a building site at present, but this didn't detract and it should be worth it when the re-build of the harbour is complete. Toilets Showers OK. Never seen so many places to eat in such a small place.
Only problem is it may be too good. I was told not to bother booking, only to find that when I arrived at 12 noon on a Friday I got the last pitch for the weekend. If you want to be assured, insist on booking.

We booked this site for the Whitsun half term week.

Because of the size of our tent, and after reading rizzo’s review they promised us two pitches at no extra cost for the second one.

On arriving there was no mention of this and we were only allocated one pitch.

The pitches are terraced on a hill and the terraces are quite level with wild hedges at the back of the pitch. Because the pitch was quite high up we had lovely views of West bay.

Because the warden did not have chance to mark out the pitch, we had to make a guess to which pitch was ours. The warden appeared later on to make sure we had enough room and that everything was ok, which I thought was a nice touch.

The ground on our pitch was very stony so it was a job to bang in the pegs in certain places and I came home with a few bent pegs.

We were lucky that we were able to park our car along side the tent, but because of the lack of room I was unable to spread my guy ropes out and had to leave them quite close to the tent.

The only issue that affected us with lack of space was when our next door neighbours wanted to use their car. If we were outside at the front we sometimes had to move our chairs to let them through. A group of people further down the terrace were having a BBQ this meant they used their entire frontage and had to move if a car need to get down. We also heard stories of caravans that had to move their awnings to accommodate their next door neighbours.

The water taps are positioned all over the site and are quite close.

There is one building on the site which contains the toilets, showers and pot wash. This serves the whole campsite and was a five minute walk from where our pitch was. The toilets were clean and looked very modern. The hot water was way too hot to use, and because there were no sink plugs we could not mix the hot water with cold. The showers are fixed to the wall and can not be angled or removed. The floor was always wet in the toilets (not sure why) and was very slippery. Also the toilet roll frequently ran out and on occasions I had to queue to do a ‘number two’. My wife told me that some of the toilets in the ladies were missing a seat, though this was rectified by the repair team later in the week. The toilet also contains shaving plugs, hand and hair dryers. There is a disabled loo/family room which contains a toilet, shower sink and bath; this room is very large and has a removable shower head. The pot wash was small and had about six sinks, so you may need to queue to wash your dishes.

The site has an adventure playground though this was too far from the touring field to let my kids go on their own.

The site has entertainment every night; we never went to that so I can’t comment on how good or bad it is. There are also some toilets in the entertainment area.

There are amusements on site and the shop which was very friendly who froze our ice packs for us, free of charge. There is also a restaurant, but we never used it.

The swimming pool is free of charge for guests. It had a small pool for the toddlers and a larger pool with a slide, the kids enjoyed this. You need to show your passes when you go into the pool; we didn’t have any passes in our ‘welcome pack’, so we had to go to reception to get some.

Because the site is actually in West bay, you don’t need to take your car to walk around.

West bay boasts a harbour, pier and two beaches: one pebble and one shingle.

The pier was off limits as there are extensive building works on it. There are also some great costal walks with nice views.

There are numerous takeaway shops; the fish and chips were very nice.

Unfortunately this picturesque scene is let down by 1970’s apartment buildings and the small unattractive shopping arcade.

Overall we enjoyed our holiday, the staff at the holiday park were friendly and it was a nice week. I would like to visit West bay again in the future, though probably at a different campsite with more space.

I have just return from what was a thoroughly pleasant trip to West Bay. Did not really know what to expect but was pleased with what we found. It was just the girlfriend and I and it was perfect to get away.
The showers/toilets were of a fantastic standard and the location was good! It was a family site but with a nice bar and a nice town even for a young couple in their 20s.
One thing I would say is that for those wanting to eat out, book!! Both of the nice resturants in town were fully booked and this was May! We ate in the pub, it was still nice enough but not up to the standard you could probobly expect from the resturants and with quite a limited menu. I Would recommend West Bay as suitable for most.

Been too West Bay about four times now, we really love it there. The entertaiment is really great the kids love it, the swimming pool is small and ideal if your kids are not very strong swimmers.
The shower blocks are ok but can get busy in main holiday seasons, it seems that the pitches are small just about managed to fit cruiser on and a pup tent.
All in all we have had some good holidays there that we can't wait to go back, in fact just booked last week for end of May kids really excited.
