We had not pre-booked a camp site and were very, very luck to come across this one by chance in late evening.
The staff were friendly and the little shop was useful.
The shower+toilet block was excellent and there were no queues even though the site was at capacity. They seemed to be cleaned very regularly (and it was nice to have showers and washing up facilities included in the very reasonable costs).
We had a power hookup was handy.
I didn't mind the trains at all but then I used to live near a railway line.
Well located for Swanage and Dorchester. The Red Lion (a few minutes away by car) on the main road to Dorchester served excellent meals.

Toilet block was modern and clean on the first week. However, they weren't cleaned on the second week we were there. Showers were hot and free but not very powerful. Site was full in the first week and you were packed in like sardines. Owner cut the grass every other day so we were treading grass cuttings into our van all the time. We didn't notice the noise from the trains after about an hour and they didn't make any noise between 11.00pm and 07.00am. Three pubs, chinese takeaway, spar and newsagents all within walking distance. Very good dog walk and a really nice walk along the river Frome. Overall, a nice clean site but not really our cup of tea.

I have to say that I visited this site without knowing an awful lot about it. I got the brochure last year which gave you just enough info. I had already visited the area when I was a kid so I knew roughly what that area of dorset was like.
We travelled down early from Cambridge wanting to avoid the m25 traffic. The owner of the site was kind enough to let us take a pick from 2 pitches even though we were 2 1/2 hrs early!. Not something that happens on every site I am sure??
The pitches were a good size ( we have a biscaya 440 ). We were even allowed to move our tent forward into the next pitch if we wanted!
The toilets were checked out straight away after the journey, and we found them to be spotless.
The shop was well stocked, but wasn't open all hours, which wasn't to bad as we tended to try and shop off site, but just getting milk etc.
There is a play area for the kids if you have any.
Other people have commented about the trains going past, but we didnt find them a problem at all. After a while you just didnt really hear them. Just the horn, which they only sound because of the pedestrian crossing going over the line.
We also heard the tanks going past, but again, they didn't cause any problems. I actually enjoyed watching them when it got dark whilst taking the dog for a walk. It was abit of a novelty for us I guess!
Overall we found the site to be nearly perfect, the owner was very friendly and helpful, and if we venture back down to dorset, we would not need to look anywhere else to stay! Excellent stuff!

Facilities are well kept with good showers. Pitches too close together, this gives the feeling of being overcrowded. Local pub Seven Stars provides good food within a 1 mile walk up a quiet country lane. Worst feature are the constant horn soundings from the main line railway. Wouldn't return because the potential quiet is destroyed because of this.

Have just returned from a w-end at this site and found it to be excellent. The owner couldn't have been more helpful, and had selected a perfect pitch for us, halfway between the play park and toilet block - v. Important with with 2 under 5's and a 6 month old! Toilet block and washing facilities are best I've ever seen on a campsite - very well thought out, incredibly clean and no queues! There is traffic noise from local trains and a fairly busy road close by - but it didn't in anyway detract from our stay. The play park is big enough for the kids to have a good play and run around. There is plenty to do locally, we were fortunate to have fantastic weather so headed for Studland beach both days, which was very busy.Get there by 10:00 on hot days or risk a long queue for the car parking! Overall we found the site excellent, and will definitely camp there again.

We stayed during the very hot period in July. It was a very good campsite and we have stayed on many over the years. There was a noise from the trains but you hardly notice it after the first day. The showers and toilets were very clean and never had to queue. The shop could be open longer but its not a problem. It only stocks basics but the local spa is a short walk or a lazy drive. I took ice blocks into the shop in a morning and exchanged them the next morning and they were frozen, not something that you get everywhere. The owners were very friendly. It is an ideal location for touring Dorset. You can easily drive to Lyme Regis in the west and Bournemouth and beyond in the East. Dorset has so much to offer everyone. I would certainly recommend this site.

Not going back. Found site too busy and pitches very close together. Facilities great in terms of showers, w.c.s etc but shop very small and only open odd times that were not much help. Also trains very close and noisy and also had large group of divers staying when we were there which were way later and larger than we were informed.

A lovely site. The showers and toilets were immaculate, newly refurbished and very well thought out. The on-site shop is small but good enough for the basics, also a small take away food stand open for a few hours most days for burgers etc. The site is well laid out with the main areas in the fields separated by trees, giving the place a much cosier feel than just a large unbroken field. The small football area for children was well-used as was the children's play area. The trains can be a bit of a surprise when you first hear them, but they are fairly infrequent and did not disturb us at night at all. Well located for the Dorset coast. Local village has two pubs - neither anything special but not terrible either. Also a well-stocked mini-market which provided everything we needed. Great for families - will certainly go back.

On arrival of the campsite, the late arrivals was full and stayed full with the same people all week. Me and my Partner were put up next to the family play area only to find at half seven in the morning to be woken up by screaming children running round. After being shocked at the price £13.50 per night for high season, we were then woken up by trains that tooted every time driving past the campsite. We found that the camp site was extremely family orientated. The washing facilities were fine only the small amount of showers. The shop as well as the fish and chip part of the camp site had strange opening times but we made good use of them. The surrounding area has many close attractions ranging from beaches deserted towns and family attractions such as monkey world. Perfect for family not recommended for couples.

Super site. Very clean modern toilet / shower block with laundry and washing up facilities. Reasonably priced food van serving breakfast on Sunday morning and meals on Tuesday and Friday evenings ,delivered to your pitch. Small shop selling ice creams ,wine ,beer ,bread milk and a few other essentials. There is however an excellent butchers ,bakers ,Spar supermarket and a Chinese takeaway in the village. Can`t say that the train noise really bothered me ,the train station is very handy for trips to Poole ,Bournemouth and Weymouth and is reasonably priced if you fancy leaving the car. I would not hesitate to recommend this site ,it was extremely friendly and the owners kept an eye on things without being invasive or applying pointless rules.
